About this listing
Stay in a room in a characterful house right in the centre of Reine, Norway's most beautiful town, on the Lofoten island of Moskenes.
All prices are including bedding, towels, tea, coffee, WiFi and end-cleaning. Breakfast is not included in the price
Cosy rooms, with the sea, shops, bus stop and summer-open restaurant in the immediate vicinity: 'The Old Hotel' wishes you a warm welcome all year round. The rooms are located on the first floor with gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains, the Reinefjord and the marina.
The Lofoten Islands are famous for their history of cod-fishing and -drying. You will see the drying-racks and, if you visit between March and June the fish hanging on them, everywhere.
The guesthouse was built a little over a hundred years ago as the hotel for the village of Reine and was in use until the '70s as the main hotel. In the 1990's it got 'converted' into a home, but still has many bedrooms which I now rent out for guests. It is situated right in the centre of the village with easy access to restaurants (summer only), café, busstop and gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains and the sea.
The guesthouse sleeps 8/9 people in 5 rooms.
In the guest-area you will find tea, coffee, cookies, books and games. The bathroom is a shared one and very spacious.
Unfortunately, no kitchen facilities available, but you can always borrow some plates and cutlery and a space in the refrigerator.
Interaction with Guests
Since this guesthouse is my home too, I will be around to welcome you and answer your questions.
The mountains seem to rise out of the sea here in Reine. Interspersed with sea all around, it creates a magical surrounding in any season.
The winters are surprisingly mild since the Gulfstream runs along here: -5C to +5C with snow from December until May.
Since Reine is located above the arctic-circle, the sun does not rise above the horizon from the beginning of December until the beginning of January. This means that in the summer (read: end of May until middle of July) the sun does not set: midnight sun!
The northern lights, aurora borealis, are visible here from September until April.
There are a number of outdoor-companies right outside the door: diving/snorkeling, sea-rafting, kayaking, bicycle-rental and mountain hiking. I can help you to get in touch with these companies or organise your activity for you.
The main bus stop with connection both to the south and the north of the islands, is situated right across the road, as well as an ATM and a small shop/petrolstation. The ferry from Bodø arrives in Moskenes, 5km from Reine. The nearest airport is in Leknes, 1h drive away. Free parking. Car-rental.

Lilian was a perfect host. She helped US with the taxy and her place was very nice, clean and warm. I loved it. Absolutely recomended
Nice accommodation, great location, and Lilian was very helpful and friendly. Recommended.
Lilian's guest house in Reine is exactly as she described. It's clean, neat, and tidy, with a large shared bathroom. Our bedroom had a gorgeous view! The shared bathroom can get a little complicated when everyone needs to shower in the morning, but it works-- you just have to be patient! The house is centrally located in the little village, right next to a lovely cafe and across the street from the bus stop, and a quick walk to the ferry that goes to other parts of the island.
Lilian was a great resource leading up to our trip and during it with tips about the area, transportation, and activities when our plans took a right turn (I broke my toe right before we left for Norway, making hiking a little complicated). She was always accessible when we had questions!
We loved being in Reines. It's a great little place with a nice balance of local life and tourism in this busy August. Lilian's place was very friendly, well situated, homely and easy to be in. We'd definitely go back there! Thankyou

About the Host, Lilian
I am a creative person, doubling as shiatsu-therapist, doubling as guesthouse manager, doubling as musician. I love traveling, cooking, photography, reading, meditation, geocaching and meeting new people. Not necessarily in that order :)
