We booked the whole month of June at Coco's place in Playa Negra. There were always four of us, but various groups coming and going. There was plenty of space and accommodations for everyone, and the whole month was a blast.
With Coco's help, we went horseback riding, jungle tours, day trips to Avellanas, Tamarindo, and Junquillal, spear fishing and much more. The house itself is situated about a 15 minute walk from the beach, but with great restaraunts along the way and firing surf at the end of the road its worth the walk.
Overall, we had a blast and Coco was a great host. He is currently looking to buy the land behind his house to build a tree house which we would all definitely come back for!
Such a great place to stay! Coco's place is a perfect home base for exploring Playa Negra and the other towns nearby. Howler monkeys came through on our last day, which was great to see! The house has plenty of space, the air conditioning kept us cool at night, and the beach is a short walk down the road. Playa Negra is a really unique town filled with nice people. Coco was the greatest host - he rented me a board for a few days, took us out to dinner at a fantastic pizza place nearby, and was available whenever we had questions. He's just an awesome guy to hang out with! If you want a low-key, authentic Playa Negra experience, definitely stay here!
Coco and his cabina are absolute gems! Playa Negra is the friendliest town I have ever been to. His friend Ben picked us up at the airport and took us grocery shopping where food was cheap. The cabina had everything to cook our meals (pots, stove top, fridge, freezer, etc). The cabina is very clean, spacious, and unique with all the woodwork and furniture Coco built himself. Coco is an amazing host and always helped us out. He invited us to yoga class plus he hooked us up with good deals for surf lessons and hikes! It's also a beautiful 15 minute walk to the beach through the small surf town and fields of horses. There is a bar/restaurant on the beach if we ever needed food or a drink. Overall, staying at Coco's with his dogs Nacho and Pisco made our adventures in Costa Rica extremely memorable and we would definitely stay again! Thanks Coco again for one of the best vacations we’ve ever had! Pura Vida!! :)
Coco, Pisco Sour and Nacho Libre (his dogs) were excellent hosts! This was the perfect place to kick back in a hammock and look for iguanas, monkeys and birds. Not to mention surf and practice amazing Yoga! Coco knows all the best places in town and has great recommendations. I loved my time in Playa Negra and will definitely be aiming to get back soon! My best stop so far on my month long excursion. Thanks again Coco!
After we got a ride from the airport by Coco's friend and neighbour Ben (who is awesome by the way), we arrived in a very welcome manor with Coco and his dogs at his house.
Coco one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, very hospitable. The cabin was clean, was in a great location, and could be kept cool on those HOT days.
If you are looking for something off the beaten path, away from the hussle and bussle of a big city - this is where you need to go -- the time goes slow and there is no rush about this little surfer town.
This trip by far was the best we've taken and cant wait to go back.
I stayed at Coco's with my wife and two daughters. Coco's place was a great cabina for us. We enjoyed the quiet town of Playa Negra. The howler monkeys also showed up the day we did which was fun. He is neighbors with an excellent organic café. There are many beaches worth exploring within a short drive. It has quality restaurants. Interactions with good people like Coco are what made the vacation special. Coco is very helpful and it was obvious he was well regarded by the other residents of the town. It was an exceptional value. We were all happy we chose to stay at Coco's.
Coco was very welcoming especially cause we arrived later than expected. His place is simple and clean. It was great to have use of a fridge. There is no stove but a stove top on the counter. The walk to the beach is about 10 mins. We had a rental & preferred to drive. Coco has 2 hammocks in the front which we used in the evening & there is air conditioning to cool the place down. The area is nice & quiet, a break from the more hectic areas in Costa Rica. Thanks Coco!
