The space

Our home is perfectly located within a five minute walk of Bowness centre and lake Windermere. We have ample free parking at the house

Guest access

Guests have access to a beautiful lounge (shared if the second room is let) where their continental breakfast is served, or they can just relax after a busy day. They have their own double bedroom with tea tray, tv and tourist information. A guest bathroom is located just a few metres from the bedroom. It will never be shared by more than 4 people.
We provide fresh towels and shower/bath products and shampoo are also provided.

Interaction with guests

As much as they want us to. Some guests chat and ask for info, some we never see. It's their break and we respect that.

The neighborhood

Bowness is a lively all year round tourist destination with lovely shops, restaurants and loads of things to do and see all within walking distance of the house. The lake offers cruises up to Ambleside or down to Newby Bridge. Guests can hire a rowing boat or a canoe from the Low Wood Watersports centre.

Getting around

Buses and taxis are readily available and we will collect from Windermere station if we are around. There are Great Lake district tours with the Mountain Goat company.

Other things to note

Birch Howe is a typical Lakeland home, so we live upstairs and sleep downstairs. This means the guest lounge is always light and airy and the bedrooms are very quiet.

Jane and Steve are amazing hosts, they helped us with everything they could. The room was so comfy, and the place really astonishingly beautiful. Highly recommended, we would definitely come back!

Firstly, I thank Steve for looking after me very well. The property was in a great location, near pier and town centre(restaurants and bars). I like the idea of honest bar and the breakfast was lovely. In addition, there is a tip to locate the house, open map and paste ""W" into searching blank, then you could easily locate it precisely. The room was cozy within comfortable bed and pillows. Shared bathroom was spacious and clean. However, you might hear the step sounds from the owners' living area or talking sounds from other guests of another room before 10pm. Otherwise, it was peaceful and quiet then. Overall, I would love to come back for stay again.

Response from Jane:
We were so sorry you had a problem with the utility room. It is not a kitchen of course but an area where the washin g machine etc are housed and with a back door entrance. It is only used by our Airbnb guests and was cleaned before your arrival.

We stayed at Jane's place for four nights in end of April 2017. Jane and Steve are excellnet hosts and we had a very comfortable stay. The house is 10 minutes walk away from Bowness town centre. We were the only guests so we didnt have to share the bathroom. There is a lovely common living area where we could put our feet-up and relax after a hard day of fell trekking. There is a mocrowave and a minibar available. Jane was considrate enough to leave out brochures etc. on the attractions and activities of the area. Overall an excellent choice to base oneself to explore Lakeland

This B&B is everything you could ask for during a stay in the Lakes. It's walkable, of course, to the shops and restaurants on Bowness, plus a number of beautiful trails that go through the area. Start with Brant Fell just up the road for a beautiful view of the lake and surrounding hills. Jane and Steve are friendly and helpful, and will even arrange for dinner reservations if needed. They keep an impeccably clean home with all the amenities you need. We only wish we could've stayed longer.

Our 2 night stay at Jane and Steve's was very enjoyable . Myself and my daughter were made to feel very welcome into their beautiful home . It was really comfortable and both Jane and Steve were perfect hosts and very friendly . Steve showed us round and explained things to us as we hadn't stayed at an airbnb before . I would highly recommend staying here and we will definately be returning . Oh .. and Jane's homemade cake is delicious by the way :-) Thank you . Bev and Lucy x

Just perfect. A short walk into town, super cosy bed and a wardrobe space to stash your things and the breakfast and room beverage facilities was a complete delight. We came up for a wedding at The Belsfield so staying here was perfect - a short walk away. We would stay again and have already recommended Jane's place. Thanks Jane!

Jane and Steve were the perfect hosts. So welcoming and friendly and happy to help with anything. The house is a very short walk into the town and down to the lake. Superb location to stay. The room and house is beautiful and as described. You are able to relax in the lounge area or room it's completely up to you. Amenities provided in your room and some very lovely home made banana bread which was a lovely touch. Room has ample storage space and bed very comfortable. Towels/Linen provided as well as shampoo/conditioner/shower gel in bathroom. Breakfast lovely too and served at a good time. You really could not ask for anything more for what you get here especially for the price it's a total steal!!! Absolutely will stay here again!

Steve and I live in the fabulous Lake District with our rabbit Smooch (left by the daughter that went to Uni) and two Yorkshire terriers, Rufus an Fergus. I work as the Head of Admissions for a private school just part time to allow us to develop our Airbnb and just have some time! Although we both spend an amount of time travelling overseas we both love what we do, but it can be a little hectic. When we have time we like walking, eating out, cooking and time out, which isn't often.
Our children are all grown and have flown the nest but we love having people to stay, so we decided that with a beautiful big empty house in the middle of Bowness we should give this a try. We do have friends who are already experienced airbnb hosts and they recommended that we give this a go. It is a 7 minute walk to the lake, brilliant restaurants, bars and shops. Unbelievable scenery is on our doorstep. The locals are friendly and will offer advice on the best walks and things to see and do. The home of Beatrix Potter and Wordsworth are within a bus ride and we can collect you from the station depending on your arrival time. Excellent off road parking is also available at our home.

We love where we are and what we have and we want you to share it with us. Please read our reviews, we have had some great people to stay and we would love you to be one of them. We flooded in December 2015 and only finished the house in April 2016, beautifully refurbished and waiting for you to visit. We offer an honesty bar, continental breakfast, fabulous location and a home away from home so come and meet won't want to leave.
