Tip Top is more than a stay, it's an experience. Our Huntsman Suite has three separate rooms and hallway accessed by a private staircase. The first bedroom has a Queen bed and large Sitting Area. The second Bedroom has a double bed and work desk. The third room in the Suite is the bathroom which is shared by the bedrooms. All three rooms are accessed from the hallway. This Suite can accommodate four persons. If more space is necessary, visit our Tally-Ho Suite, at Airbnb # 32492353.

The space
Tip Top was an equestrian estate that was an important part of the storied Great Gatsby era "Gilded Age" of Social Registers, Fox Hunting, Horse Polo and Jumping. Tip Top's Manor house remains today and has been meticulously restored. The 3 room Huntsman Suite has been fully renovated and tastefully appointed to capture the essence of this unique bygone period. The Huntsman Suite is totally private, consisting of a Bedroom with Sitting Area, another Bedroom with work desk, and a separate Spa Bathroom with Kohler whirlpool serving both bedrooms, all accessed by a private staircase. Fast, fast Wi-Fi is included, but, if you need blazing ultra fast, we offer direct connection to the Web via Ethernet cable. Also included is a Keurig coffee service with a complimentary selection of coffees and teas, a microwave, a mini-refrigerator with complimentary bottled water and a selection of complimentary snacks, some home prepared in our own kitchen.

Our home is perfect for couples enjoying a cozy & private romantic getaway, working persons, and solo travelers in a quiet tranquil setting, but with all modern conveniences while still close to restaurants, shopping, transportation, Philadelphia and other points of interest.

In addition to the Huntsman Suite, we also offer accommodations in another separate area of the house, which is listed with Airbnb as the "Tally-Ho Suite", and which can be accessed by a separate search through Airbnb for listing number 32492353.

The oldest part of the house was built in the first half of the 18th century (approx. 1745). The house has been fully restored and modernized, but as guests have observed, "somehow, even with the original details and period collectibles, it still feels like a home."

We invite you to stay and add your own commentary!!!

For those requesting lodging, we'd appreciate it if you included your photo and something about yourself on your Airbnb profile. As well, we've found that guest stays are made even more enjoyable when guests let us know what's bringing them to the area and why they were attracted to our listing, which enables us to personalize their stays. Shortly after you've checked out, Airbnb will invite you to post a review of your stay, and we would be most appreciative if you do.

Where you’ll be

Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania, United States

Formerly a horse farm and equestrian training center, our neighborhood is quiet, peaceful, and tranquil, situated alongside the Wissahickon Creek in the most prestigious area in Montgomery County.

Our home is on a cul-de-sac, with no through traffic.

It is a short walk (6-8 min) to the SEPTA train station, with frequent service to center city Philadelphia (40 min) and Philadelphia International Airport (1 hr. 20 min.)

The PA Turnpike and other Interstate highways are a short distance away (4-5 miles).

The nearest shops are a five-minute drive in various directions. There are 2 major shopping malls at 10-15 minutes driving distance. Valley Forge National Park and King of Prussia lie close by to the west. Doylestown with its quaint streets, shops, museums and restaurants is close by to the north. Next door, to the south, lies Ambler, experiencing a renaissance in its unique restaurants, theater, and playhouse. And, for those interested in history, Montgomery County takes great pride in its collection of restored properties from the Colonial era, all open to the public.

There is a wonderful creekside hiking trail within short walking distance (6-8 min), including access to a nearby nature preserve.

There is an Italian restaurant 7-10 minutes walk away. There are also many restaurants of various cuisines within a short driving distance (5-10 min.)

For bicyclists, our neighborhood lies astride one of Pennsylvania's premier bicycling routes, Bike Route S, the longest Bicycle PA Route, extending 435 miles from Washington County (east of Wheeling, W VA) to Washington Crossing Military Park on the Delaware River in neighboring Bucks County.

My wife, Christine, and I are a semi-retired couple who remain very active, and share a close affinity with nature. Our property has extensive gardens, and hosts a Spring House feeding a small stream, waterfall and pond, surrounded by wildflowers and patios for relaxing. As an Advanced Certified Wildlife Habitat, our property hosts songbirds year-round, accompanied by foraging White-tail deer, the occasional Fox, and Great Blue Herons stalking the pond fish. We enjoy travelling whenever possible, in the Continental United States, Alaska and Hawaii. We've also traveled extensively in Europe, Central and South America, and Japan. We plan our travels by researching and developing our own itineraries to include both adventure (hiking, backpacking, mountaineering) and leisure. We enjoy good wine, (sourced locally when possible) , Italian, French, Japanese and Thai cuisine. Our favorite cuisine, however, is prepared by Chris and myself utilizing our fully functional and original open-hearth fireplace, combining our sense of adventure with hearth-side cooking in an innovative way to entertain friends. Our perfect evening is a meandering meal by the crackling fire in our Keeping Room illuminated only by candles and the fire, bringing old friends and new acquaintances together, to make hearts one. But, I have to confess, my homemade pizza and bread, cooked by the flames in our wood-fired beehive oven, is to die for. We love to meet new people and share their experiences. Our home begs to be shared with others, as it has been lovingly restored by the owners (Doug & Chris) to its Pre-Revolutionary roots, bringing the past alive and enabling visitors and friends to immerse themselves into the charm and ambiance of life as it was over 250 years ago. At the same time, the house has been completely brought up to modern standards, enabling our Airbnb guests to combine old charm with modern amenities. Chris and I realize it's a big world out there just waiting to be explored, but we also realize that there simply isn't enough time to experience it all. But we can experience a great deal of the world, by vicariously sharing experiences with our guests.
