#Cottage at La Esperanza Biological Station. Route 2
What better than waking up enjoying the Forest, surrounded by old oaks, accompanied by the singing of birds and the pleasant sound of the river running down the mountain? In the Cerro de la Muerte everything is magic, in the cloud forest at 2500 meters above sea level. La Finca La Cañuela offers: Quetzal sighting, hiking and food. At night, enjoy the cold of the forest sharing a unique experience with your loved ones. Come and breathe peace!"

The space
Our space is an ideal place for people who enjoy nature, the cloud forests, who want to connect with the peace and beauty of nature. Ideal site for bird watching, especially the Majestic Quetzal; thus being one of the areas with the greatest biodiversity of flora and fauna in Costa Rica.

Near the property there are trails in neighboring farms (paid) to observe oaks and birds or to do sport fishing for Trout which you can take and prepare to your liking in our cabins or you can eat on the premises. In the different trails you will find different and wide range of flora and fauna such as: fungi, lichens, mosses and orchids in their habitat. Forbidden to extract them from nature. In front of Finca La Cañuela there is a path that leads to the Rio Macho where you can go to refresh your feet and enjoy the mountains.

If you are passing through to the south of the country and you go to Perez Zeledon, Chirripo National Park, Nauyaca Waterfalls, Playa Dominical, Bahia Ballena or to the Corcovado National Park, our town is a stop to get to know and enjoy the Cerro de la Muerte or rather the Hill of Life as its inhabitants call it with love.

Or you can also visit the Tapanti National Park. This park conserves important ecosystems, contains numerous rivers and has a varied scenic beauty, both in the Tapantí sector, which is characterized as one of the rainiest places in Costa Rica, as well as in the Massif de the Death, since in its elevated part the moors reign and from the Asuncion Hill both coasts can be observed: the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.

In the park, there are around 45 species of mammals, as well as 260 species of birds.

And maybe I could visit 13 km from the cottage, Los Quetzales National Park is a special area for bird sightings, such as the Quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno), an almost threatened species according to the IUCN list.

The type of cloud forest generated by the different weather conditions has trees covered with a variety of plant species that makes them more attractive for birds and animals that inhabit the area. It hosts a large number of endemic flora and fauna species. The most endemic areas of vegetation are in the high montane, subalpine and alpine ranges, which include more than 50% of the 53 endemic species recorded for the Savegre basin.
