Tendai was a very welcoming and gracious host. Our suite was very well-decorated and had all of the comforts of home. This was also true for the bathroom and kitchen, which was filled with tons of snacks, spices, and starter foods. My travel-mate and I also got to spend one of the holidays with Tendai and her family, which was equally lovely. Tendai, herself, is a very knowledgable and motivating person -- a great conversationalist when you run into her
Dr. Tendai has created a warm and inviting space that is private and perfect for those who want to be in a clean and friendly environment.
This was a wonderful experience. The hosting was excellent and welcoming. Especially good for professionals visiting the NYC area. A real find.
I stayed for a week while doing some training for my job. The host was very welcoming and helpful. The room was nice with a decent bed and a chair along with access to a central common area and a kitchen. The kitchen had everything needed for cooking. The house was a neat and well kept older building. The neighborhood is a bit of a transitional neighborhood going from a nearby more inner city neighborhood to a totally suburban area.
Thanks Lauren for staying with us and for your review. However, I believe some of your terminology like "older building" "transitional" or "inner city" are misleading and may give the wrong impression of where we are. Our property was build in 1969 younger than most of the properties in Maplewood/South Orange. Also the neighborhood is very culturally and racially heterogeneous and cosmopolitan comprising of mostly immigrant middle class homeowners of various descent i.e. East European (Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, etc) Caribbean, Haitian, African (South African, Nigerian, Ghanaian, etc.), Asian, American and Jewish. As such it may not look like most convectional homogeneous suburban neighborhoods. This does not make our middle class neighborhood "transitional" or "inner city" - far from it! Through its Coalition on Race organization, Maplewood/South Orange towns makes a great effort to be culturally diversified communities.
Dr Ndoro was very kind and had a beautiful home. She was very knowledgeable about the area and even drove us to the local pharmacy. I definitely would stay here again.
Mushaindoro's Musasa Suite was very comfortable. My wife and I stayed there for 5 days. Tendai's family is very personable and welcoming. Tendai has the gift of hospitality and is very generous. Upon arrival she gave us a beautiful "Welcome Flower" in our room which blossomed while we were there, a bottle of wine, and stocked the guest fridge upstairs with some staple groceries. Also, I really liked how the building was setup. It's the perfect building for this kind of setting because the upper floor is completely for guests and it includes three guest rooms, kitchen, living room and full bathroom. Tendai and her two children live down stairs. Upon entering the building you are immediately in front of a staircase that will take up to the guest area, so you don't have to walk through Tendai's house to get to the guest space (exactly like an apartment setup).
I will say to travelers to be sure and research the area. I was working a contract quite a distance North of Maplewood. Traveling North from Maplewood can be tricky if you're not used to traffic or an inner-city setting (Which I am not--try to avoid Irvington). However, it was super easy to get to NYC and the Statue of Liberty from Mushaindoro. We drove to Secaucus Train Station and took the train into the city (only a 10 min train ride).
Tendai and her family again were very sweet. One evening she invited us into her home and visited with us and we had a wonderful time getting to know her.

About the Host, Tendai Dephine
Well I am a Leo, a mother of 2, a good daughter, sister, and a loyal friend. My friends think I am an adventurous, humorous "idealist”, and great cook. I love feng shui, good wine & great meaningful conversations! Originally from Zimbabwe, Mushaindoro Hospitality Suites gives me the opportunity to share my African culture, blended with my American experiences. Having travelled a lot (Hong Kong/China/Canada/South Africa/Kenya/Zambia/Swaziland/Mozambique/
Brussels/Frankfurt/ US various, etc., etc.), I know what I love about a great stay, therefore I strive to offer my guests an authentic memorable hospitality experience. Being Shona, we believe we are the jewel of African hospitality. Life motto is what my father used to say to me: "Brighten the Corner where you Are."
