About this listing
Beautiful traditional apartment in the historical centre of Umbria's foremost 'città d'arte', a few hundred metres from the Cathedral. Ideal for a couple as a base for travel in and around Etruscan sites, Franciscan shrines, Renaissance masterpieces and Umbria's renown vinyards and restaurants.
Traditionally-furnished apartment on first floor with large living room, eat-in kitchen, 1 double bedroom plus 1 single bedroom, 2 bathrooms, balcony with table and chairs overlooking courtyard garden.
Full and exclusive use of the apartment. There is no elevator, however only one flight of stairs is required to enter the apartment.
Interaction with Guests
Neighbour and caretaker will check you in and out, and look after guests as much as they wish. Do you need a sauce for tonight's pasta? Ask Sestilia and she will organise it for you at a minimal cost.
Very central location in the extraordinarily well-preserved historic hilltown of Orvieto founded by the Etruscans in the ninth century BC and used as a Papal retreat during the Middle Ages and early Renaissance. The apartment in via Luca Signorelli is a stone's throw from Italy's most spectacular medieval cathedral.
Orvieto is a real town perched on top of a cliff overlooking the Tiber valley. Most everything is around the corner--fresh pasta, wonderful butcher, bakery, cafès, bookstore and nice shops, theatre, post office--not to mention the ceramics and traditional linens of the region. The cable car to the train station below is about a 20-minute walk.
Other Things to Note
The bedrooms are comfortable and quiet, and face onto an interior garden. Although there is no air-conditioning, the apartment is insulated with thick walls and cross ventilation, so that the temperature is pleasant even in the middle of summer.
This is a home. Treat it and its contents as your own. Avoid smoking inside the apartment. Respect the neighbours by avoiding loud noises and inappropriate behaviour when you enter or go out of the building. Although a cleaning service will be provided at the end of your stay, do your best to leave the place as you find it.
We enjoyed our stay at the apartment. It's in the perfect location in Orvieto - quiet but a few minutes walk from the beautiful Duomo and plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes. There's a supermarket and pizza slice shop next door and a fresh pasta shop opposite.
The apartment is rather old fashioned so the sofas aren't that comfortable and the towels are quite old and thin, but these are just small things really. It's quite dark in some of the rooms but that means it stays very cool.
The terrace is great and it was convenient to have a washing machine.
There was some confusion on checking in as we didn't know we had to pick the keys up from a lady who lives around the corner, but luckily she found us out on the street and we only had to wait for a few minutes.
Very nice apartment in the heart of Orvieto. We enjoyed our stay and hope to return again in the near future. Too many great restaurants to try them all. Beautiful city to walk.
We stayed in this gorgeous apartment for a week. It is very centrally located being about 3 minutes walk to the Duomo. Ann's neighbour let us in on the first day and showed us around the apartment which is just as pretty as the photos on the listing. Having a balcony overlooking a garden was an added bonus - we had drinks and a couple of our meals out there in the evening.
Ann left detailed information on where to eat which was very helpful. She recommended Mantanucci for morning coffee and the tavola calda which was fantastic and absolutely delicious. We even got some food which we took home and warmed up for dinner one night after a long day sightseeing. Ann also let us know which day the markets were on and we were able to buy some of the excellent and cheap produce to make some meals at home. Proscuitto, cheese, beautiful tiny asparagus, eggplants, tiny french beans. All fabulous.
Ann also told us not to miss the big festival of Corpus Domini in which there was a parade of 400 people all dressed in medieval costume. A sight that we were lucky to be in Orvieto for. The inside of cathedral looked magnificent with all its lights on and the incense in the air gave it a totally magical look, and to see it in use was just such a treat!!
I couldn't recommend this apartment more highly. Comfortable beds, washing machine and dishwasher. And a line on the verandah to hang the washing up. Just like home! BUT in a better location. Hopefully we will be back again.
Ann is an open, nice and helpful person. The flat has a very special atmosphere, AND a terrace (balcony) what is a lovely place to take your breakfast or drink red local vine at candle light....
The place and Ann is highly recommended
