If you're looking for a local, relaxed feel off the beaten path then go ahead and book your stay with Cab. We arrived after dark and his place, although not hard to find, is actually the lot behind the house you drive up to. We just gave Cab a call and he directed us to the driveway that runs on down to his place. Breakfast was great each morning and included fresh produce from his garden. We even enjoyed hearing the roosters crow in the morning. Cab can provide ear plugs if you need them, but you will be missing out on so much as the overall sounds of nature and tranquil wind chimes resonate. Cab also was available to assist with our itinerary on days when we were looking for random adventure, and provided us with bikes so we didn't have to drive our rental car entire time. We checked out a couple of farmers markets that Cab recommended, and also took part in his yoga class at the community center which was excellent. Did I mention that Cab is a surf instructor? That is one of many highlights and great experiences we had during our stay as well. Cab is a very laid back host who will make you feel right at home during your entire stay. If you like rich conversation, coupled with overall peace and tranquility then this is the place to stay.
The town was charming and beautiful! We pulled up to Cab's beautiful property and saw the trumpet flowers in full bloom hanging from the trees, hibiscus flowers, chickens, and lush greenery. I was immediately happy with our choice! Cab wasn't home yet but said he would be shortly so we checked out the room and headed up to use the restroom. His home is peaceful and colorful. When he arrived we were able to ask him lots of questions he had a lot of great recommendations. We decided to bike to the grocery store to pick up food Cab offered us use of his kitchen to prepare it and his balcony to dine. We found 3 beach cruisers that were still operational and headed to the store. These are what I picture when I think of well worn cruisers so we had to get used to the brakes or lack thereof but once we got the hang of it we cruised into to town and found the grocery store he recommended. Grabbed our food and then biked a little further to the beach and watched the sunset as we enjoyed some of our food and an ice cold beer. Perfect! We found the town was not set up for bikes and not all folks are bike friendly so be cautious especially driving down the main road. Cab can probably advise of some other streets to take that have less traffic and safer bike routes. He told us of a great beach to go to the next day and that was a much better ride with open road! Anyhow we came back had dinner and great conversation with Cab on his balcony. It could not have been better, we wish we had arranged to stay for another night!
We had an amazing one-night stay at Cab's place! He is super relaxed and made us feel really welcome. In the morning, he made us breakfast using ingredients from his garden and it was out of this world. We had really interesting conversation over breakfast as well. He has a lot of useless things at his place, such as yoga mats, surfboards, lilos, and bikes, which he kindly let us borrow to bike down to where we were horse riding in the afternoon! Chickens and their chicks roam freely around, the stars look incredible at night, and there's a beautiful outdoor shower with an aloe vera plant which was amazing for our sunburn! If you're a light sleeper, you might be kept up by some noise outside, but Cab did offer us earplugs. Also, his place is so close to the town of Haleiwa, it only takes 5 or 10 minutes to work there, and you must visit the Celestial Natural Foods Store and the cafe behind it called Beet Box! The best cooked lunch and smoothie I've ever had.
Cab wasn't in town when we were there, but his great energy and thoughtfulness showed through the place. Felt like being in the middle of jungle. The chickens were a bit noisey and seemed confused as to the time of day, but hey we had fresh eggs for breakfast. It was a bit rainy, so we made good use of Cab's interesting books and yoga mats Would definitely stay here again.
Staying with Cab was one of the highlights of our time on Oahu. Best smoothies on the planet. Bikes to borrow. Composting toilet. Soulful yoga and conversations. Aloe for your sunburns - Cab has it all.
We'll be back!
Very homely, very chilled, great place to stay. Just what we were looking for. Delicious fresh fruit and smoothies in the morning. Loved the hot outdoor shower!
Very friendly we felt very much at home and we're treated to amazing smoothies for breakfast :) the location is good, it's close to the sugar mill.
I Have traveled to several destinations throughout the world surfing. Australia,Barbados,Costa Rica,France, Indonesia,Mexico, Senegal West Africa. The dream was to create a travel destination with the benefits of exotic places beaches ,food, leisure, yoga, massage, surf, and safety in one location . I've done it and it's here. My most recent travels have taken me to the western U.S. experiencing Burningman & Bhaktifest . My interests have expanded beyond surfing into yoga, massage, wellness, permaculture, arts, music, etc....
Doing what you love and making a living doing it creates an infectious cycle inspiring people to lead happy productive lives while meeting other interesting inspired people . I think life turns into what we wish & create it to be. What do you think?
