Sun-filled, PARKING, cleaning lady

Apartment - Entire home/apt · N Berendo St, Los Angeles, CA 90027, United States

The Space

My large, fully-furnished one-bedroom is on a quiet street, yet is a 5 minute walk to hopping central Los Feliz...great restaurants, a movie theater, bookstores, The Dresden, etc on Vermont and Hillhurst... Also, it's a 3-minute walk to Barnsdall Park, and a 15-minute walk to Griffith park with the world famous Griffith Park Observatory (see my pictures for a shot of that).

Apt/Building features include - hardwood floors, central heat/air, dishwasher, marble-top kitchen counters, an 88-key/fully weighted electric piano, free WiFi, a balcony with views of TWO Frank Lloyd Wright houses (one of the views is below), fully furnished with lots of mid-century furniture, and a new and super comfortable queen bed. The building has an elevator and is very quiet.

The best part? UNDERGROUND/GATED parking, right beneath the building! I'll give you the remote control when you arrive and you'll be good to go!

I also have a cleaning lady who comes twice a month…she’s great - keeps everything spic and span.

I have a flat-screen TV for viewing DVDs (and watch TV on my computer).

I'll provide linens and clean towels...and the place will be totally tidy when you arrive (with some food in the fridge).

  • This place worked out really well. There are a lot of great shops, restaurants, and cafés within walking distance and it's not far from a lot of other parts of town where there's plenty of cool action. The block itself is mostly quiet. The building is nicen for several reasons: it's well-secured, you get your own parking space in a underground garage with your own g-d opener (I mean "garage door"), there's a washer/dryer in the building that I used several times and never had to wait. There's an elevator so it's easy to load in and out. Every single person I encountered was really nice (and I bet the married ones were too!--rim shot). The walls seem to be thick because I heard almost nothing from other apartments.

As for the place itself...It was nice and clean when I arrived. The kitchen is quite adequate--not a chef's paradise, but accommodating enough--and it doesn't hurt that there's a dishwasher. There is plenty of light pouring into the place. The bed is great...you almost need a step stool to get up onto it, but once you do, you'll be resting on a hotel-quality (good hotel) mattress. I had the use of two decent-size dresser drawers and plenty of room to hang stuff in store my luggage in the bedroom closet. There are lots of lamps in the place, so the ambient lighting options are many. All the lamps are even tasteful! There's a nice round dining table (be nice to it! use the placemats and coasters) with a couple of chairs. It would have been nice to have a chair in the bedroom but it's not an issue if you're the only one there; I just brought one from the living room, duh. Nice contempo-style sofa, long enough to stretch out on. (Don't ask me to define "contempo.") Wi-fi worked great. There's a sliver of deck off the living room, but it's not like you could have a barbecue out there. You could walk out and sample the air though, and that makes a difference. Bathroom was just fine, including the shower. And musicians take note: there's a music stand there! Came in handy.

Minor drawbacks: the garbage disposal is touchy so don't challenge it. (Ben responded to the mini-disaster with alacrity and the plumber was over within an hour or two and when I got back it was entirely fixed.) There's no TV, but nowadays that's not such a big deal when you can watch stuff on your computer or iPad thingie.

Ben himself checked in frequently to make sure all was well. He couldn't have been more pleasant, thoughtful, or accommodating.

All things considered, I'd give the place 4&1/2 stars. But the whole experience--especially the value--rates 5.

  • Safe and perfectly clean! Parking under with remote is a huge plus in LA. Two blocks away on Vermont are several great pubs and spots to eat. Perfect place for meetings in West Hollywood, Studio City or Beverly Hills. Ben was great!

  • Beaut little apartment in an excellent location. The place is as described: parking, clean, covers all that you would need. Ben is very responsive and quickly replied to any queries. I would definitely stay here again.

  • Ben's place is in a great location, in a quiet location, and it was great to have indoor parking as we noticed street parking was very hard to find as it got later. The place was clean and tidy. As the others have said, the bed is a bit high for our preference, but it didn't affect our sleeping or anything. Another small detail is the shower, it was quite difficult adjusting to the right temperature. Takes quite a couple of times before getting the hang of it. Ben was great, really quick to respond and also provided very detailed information. Thanks, Ben!

    Response from Ben:

I've sublet my place for years and, unfortunately, had to make an
unavoidable cancellation. I don't imagine this will ever happen again, in
    the future.

  • I loved Ben's place! As it turned out Ben's apartment is just a couple of minutes walk to some of my favorite LA nightspots, including Rockwell Table & Stage for great musical performances. At Rockwell you must try the Skillet Baked Cookie with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. First of all, while I have chatted with Ben over the phone and in email I've never met Ben in person - never had to really. Ben is the MOST organised airbnb host I have dealt with, from initial enquiry to handing back the keys at the end of my stay - smooth running. I am visiting from Australia and decided not to rent a car. While in London, Paris, and New York I always use public transport so I decided to take on the challenge of public transport in Los Angeles. The bus network at the end of Ben's street connected me to everywhere I needed to get to in LA, including LA Airport (90mins), my work in Burbank (35mins), Glendale Galleria (20mins), Disneyland (90mins), Universal Studios (15mins), and Beverley Hills (15mins). Oh and did I mention the street at the end of Ben's street is Hollywood Blvd, turn right and bus to the corner of Hollywood & Vine in 5 minutes or walk. All the bare essentials are within walking distance of Ben's apartment: supermarkets, pharmacies, dry cleaners & laundries, Fatburger (amazing flavour, juicy burgers), little cafes thru to first class restaurants. Even the French themed cafe, Figaro, where Madonna did a fashion shoot for Louis Vuitton is near the corner of Vermont and Melbourne Avenues. Head north on Vermont, and with a right and left, you'll be at Griffith Observatory in 10 minutes with a great view of the 'Hollywood' sign. Ben's apartment in central to most of Los Angeles. If you have a car you get to park it under Ben's apartment block in an remote control door, undercover, secure garage with internal entry to the building. Very comfortable. Speaking of comfort, the bed!!!!! The bed is big and comfortable, equal to my own bed at home. I am quite the fusspot when it comes to my haven at the end of the day. Ben's apartment was exactly that - a haven in a very quiet street with quiet neighbors. If I left the curtains open over night beautiful sunrises woke me in the morning before heading out to the living room and balcony with toast and coffee. Before arriving Ben sent me a 'two page' blurb clearly explaining all the ins and outs resulting in my stay being seamless and memorable. If you haven't worked it out already I'm giving Ben and his apartment the 'thumbs up'. I highly recommend this airbnb listing and hope you don't book it for the dates that I want to return. Tip: If you want to try the Metro public transport network buy a TAP card and use (website hidden). maps for times and routes. Try the Metro Red Line for Universal Studios...
