About This Listing
Cabina Blanca - tucked away at the top of a gated community with lovely views of the Pacific ocean, the beach a short walk and the towns of Tamarindo and Flamingo only 25 min. away. Roomy, queen bed, private patio.
This space is a completely self contained guest house, about 15 feet away from the main house. With an abundance of natural light, this unique oasis is cozy and inviting with high ceilings.
Although not air conditioned, the cabina enjoys an elevated position on the site and is orientated to take advantage of breezes. In the room, there are ceiling and pedestal fans.
Within the suite is a fridge, microwave, coffee maker and toaster. There is queen sized bed and a small table and chairs. The bathroom includes a full sized shower.
Guests will have access to the sitting space in front of the cabina and the chairs and hammock in the private tower patio upstairs.
Guests will also have use of the private pool, lounge chairs and hammock next door.
Wireless Internet is available in the cabina, your private patio and the pool area. For long term stay, we can make arrangements for use of the washer and dryer.
Interaction with Guests
We live in the main house next door, but you may remain as private as you wish. We are always happy to talk with guests about our experiences and theirs, as well as gladly give information about the area and it's amenities, or even help coordinate activities and tours.
We feel very safe in our gated community, tucked away from the "hustle and bustle" of some of the nearby towns, but still close enough to enjoy all the area has to offer.
This relaxing atmosphere is great for bird watching and animal visitors, walks or just enjoying the pool.
We are central to enjoy all the coast has to offer with 13+ beaches within less than one hour drive. Matapolo is the closest town to us. It is a 5 minute drive away and has a couple of restaurants and grocery stores. Tamarindo is 25 mins south of us and Flamingo is 25 mins north. Both are an easy drive for taking in the restaurants, shops and services.
Being a bit away from it all a vehicle is a must. A 4x4 would allow you to explore even further, but for those quick 10-minute runs into town, a car works just fine.
Other Things to Note
This is a pure Costa Rica experience - not all polish and shine, but comfortable and inviting and the stuff that memories are made of.
For the comfort of future travellers, there is no smoking permitted in the space itself. General cleanliness will reduce the appearance of "un-welcome" guests.
Small table and chairs, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and fridge make refreshements easy to prepare
Our stay at Cabina Blanca was absolutely wonderful. Tim and Kim were terrific hosts and provided us with all the information we could possibly need to make the most of our time in the Playa Conchal area. Their property was exactly as described, cozy and secluded. There were two amazing beaches within a short 10 min drive and the gated community was very nice and most importantly, safe. There was a nice little restaurant in the hotel nearby with great food and a stunning view. This was really convenient for when we didn't feel like driving anywhere to eat. We would definitely stay here again on our next trip to Costa Rica!
What an adorable place! Tim and Kim were so nice and helpful and accommodating. We spent a lot of time talking and hanging out with them. Make sure to ask if you can buy some of Kim's homemade ice cream, called Beach Treats! So good.
The cabina was really cute and quaint. I actually slept in the hammock on the rooftop patio while my friend took the queen bed in the room. It was a great idea! It was really comfy and I love sleeping outside. In the morning I was woken up (around 5:30) by the symphony of animals all around! Different types of birds, geckos, and of course, howler monkeys with their strange guttural sounds. Perfect way to wake up.
It's pretty close to the beach (Playa Conchal), which is now one of my favorite beaches in all the world. There was hardly anyone there on a Friday morning. On the property I met one of the owners' friends' dogs, Timmy, and he followed me to the beach and hung out with me all day! The beach is about a 15 minute leisurely walk down a dirt road through the trees. Very picturesque.
The house is a little bit difficult to find, but Tim was very helpful when our driver gave him a call to figure it out. We didn't understand at first that you actually have to enter the gate where the neighboring Hotel Condor is. Also the roads getting there are rough, so it's a bit hard for taxi drivers. Just try to tip the driver well if you can!
They also showed us another guest house on the property that is really nice for a group of people (2 full beds in a bedroom plus a futon in the living room). I'm definitely coming back to this place!
Thank you Kim and Tim!
Our stay at Kim and Tim's cabina was so great! We loved how close we were to the beach and the patio on the roof was a huge highlight for us. I even slept up in the hammock for a couple of nights due to the heat. There's a spectacular view and the area is very secluded without being too far from other areas. One day, We walked down playa conchal and went to brasilito for lunch. Tim and Kim were super helpful and so friendly- ideal hosts, really! They were very available if needed but it was so nice to have the first couple of days to ourselves so we could wind down from our travelling. Kim and Tim were able to tell us all about the area, and cool little facts. Kim makes amazing ice cream which she sells in the area and we definitely recommend future travellers find some to try!!!
We were very happy with the accommodations that Tim and Kim provided. They were very friendly and answered all of our questions. They also gave excellent advice on the area.
The guest house met all of our needs and was a quiet place to base our beach adventures.
Thanks for everything
Eric and DeAnna
It was great to stay with Kim and Tim! They were wonderfull hosts and told us the good spots in the area especially a beach nearby where we were the only people. The house has a great bed and a fee kitchen supplies witch were helpfull. The roofterras is fantastic with a great view. We enjoyed staying here. Gracias!!
We arrived in Liberia very happy to escape a long and bitterly cold winter in Toronto. After collecting our rental car, we headed towards Playa Conchal. A short stop at the Super Compro in Huacas for groceries proved a highly risky experience.
In the 10 minutes we shopped for a few items to tie us over for the two nights in Conchal before heading to San Juanillo, our vehicle was broken into and two of our four bags were taken.
A very unpleasant experience to say the least ! - but made very manageable by the way our hosts (Tim and Kim) dealt with our bad luck. A short phone call to fill them in, and they were on site within 15 minutes helping us in any way they could. In addition, the locals in the immediate area could not have been more helpful.
The accommodation is simple, lovely and clean, and within a 10 minute easy walk to one of the most spectacular beaches in Costa Rica. There is the added bonus of a beautiful roof top patio, complete with hammock and ocean/hill views. Kim/Tim live alongside (albeit very separate), and Kim's father lives on the other side. Much local knowledge is shared by this family, and very appreciated.
An official police report was filed by us in Santa Cruz. Kim/Tim/Al (Kim's father) came with us, and went above and beyond what might be expected considering they had nothing to do with our unfortunate bad luck. Words cannot describe how appreciative we are of their kindness.
A few pieces of advice: when renting a vehicle, do not rent the economy model. Rent a more substantial vehicle that does not have key access from the rear. Do not leave your rental with luggage unattended, ever.
Theft as we have learned the hard way, has become a big issue in parts of the country more popular with tourists, especially on busy weekends, like Easter.
Overall, this is a lovely little accommodation complete with a great restaurant 2 mins walk up the hill, gorgeous beach 10 minutes walk, and Doug, the pet Coati - a huge highlight for animal lovers such as we are : )

About the Host, Kim And Tim
We are former Canadians who have escaped the snow! We have given up toboganning in favor of boogie boarding at nearby beaches.
Looking for a change of pace we left Calgary, Alberta in March 2013 and came to Costa Rica with the mindset that everyday is a new adventure! With our love of animals and photography, we have many opportunities to explore the huge variety that Costa Rica has to (website hidden). our Spanish is steadily improving :)
