This 1940's Tahoe cabin has vintage charm and boasts one of the most sought-after locations on the lake. Short of lake front, which this cabin is not, this is as good as it gets. Includes access to homeowners' beach, a block down the street.
In 1963, my parents bought this particular cabin because of this huge round table. Originally, it seated 17, but with the wider chairs we are using now, it seats 12.
Location, location, location! You can walk to Sunnyside Lodge (lakefront bar and dining), Firesign Cafe (great breakfasts & lunches) and our Tahoe Park Homeowners' Beach. This private beach is only a block down the street. The homeowners' beach has 3 acres of lake front and lots of amenities, like 2 docks, BBQs, picnic tables, and bathrooms.
You have exclusive access to the entire cabin and the three large lots on which it is built. You have a gate entry card to get you into the private homeowners' beach, just a short walk down the street. There is snow removal service in the winter. We have an annual contract with Tahoe Park Snow Job.
Interaction with Guests
I live and work in Novato, so I will not be present. The housekeeper, Bertha, lives in King's Beach, so she would be the one to help out with any problem.
We love that the cabin's location--close to two awesome restaurants, and not far (2 miles) from Tahoe City, with even more restaurants. World Class ski resorts are close by, too. Homewood is 4 miles down Highway 89, and you can be at Alpine Meadows or Squaw Valley in about 15-20 minutes. There is also Northstar, and Mt. Rose, and Incline. Love that the house has a huge outdoor space. It was built on a three lot parcel back in 1940. Love that our private homeowners' beach is just a block down the street, too. Can be in Reno in less than an hour.
There is a bus system TART (Tahoe Area Rapid Transit), but would assume you would have your car. We do not provide bicycles, but you may want to bring them in the summer. There is a beautiful bike path that runs along the lake, and also back to Truckee.
Other Things to Note
There is a short list of things we need you to do when you check out, so that the water pipes don't freeze and break before Bee Tostado and her staff come to clean. Also, over the last couple years, bear break-ins have become a concern. We had our first bear break-in in 50 years of owning the cabin in September 2012, and since then, have had a total of four. Again, there is a short list of things we ask you to do to lessen the chance of any more break-ins. The most important thing is not to leave any food in the refrigerator, freezer or anywhere in the house when you check out, as apparently, they can smell through the walls. The rent includes the 10% Placer County Transient Occupancy Tax. Cleaning is included in the rent. The house will be clean for your arrival, and cleaned after you check out. There is no housekeeping provided during your stay.
Please do not smoke in the house. There is a huge front porch at the front of the house that is fine for smoking. Well behaved pets that are housebroken and do not chew the furniture are welcome. However, the yard is not fenced, and the homeowners' beach will not let dogs in during the summer months. Please take special care to return the Lake Tahoe Homeowner's Association beach "key" to its hook on the laundry room wall. If you lose this key, there is a $100 replacement charge. This key will allow you to enter the beach during the summer months. The beach gate is not locked off season. There is a $110.00 replacement charge if the fireplace remote is damaged by leaving it too close to the fire. Just leave it on the coffee table and this will not happen.
