All of our rooms have private entrances and private baths. This is the 2nd of 3 rooms in our home. It is ideal for one person but we do rent it as a double. The bedroom measures approximately 11-1/2 feet by 11-1/2 feet with attached, small private bath w tub/shower. Bed is queen sized and there's a local TV.
Kayaks are here for your use when available. Please contact us regarding kayaking. Coffee and microwave are just outside your door.
The space
Our home is conveniently located about half way between Downtown Charleston and Folly Beach. Each are less than 10 minutes away with no traffic. (Traffic on weekend mornings can significantly increase the time it takes to get on the beach.)
Peter Demetre Sunrise Park and James Island County Park are each about 3 miles away.
The Charleston Tea Garden and The Angel Oak (the oldest living thing east of the Mississippi River) are located on nearby Wadmalaw and Johns Islands.
MIddleton, Drayton Hall, Magnolia and McLeod are all nearby plantations open to the public. (Host may be able to provide a pass to McLeod.)
What We Offer:
- a squeaky-clean room with private entrance and private bath with free snacks, waters, and toiletry essentials which you may have forgotten to pack, a personal mini fridge and a microwave. (Microwave is shared on the back deck.)
We are licensed by Charleston County (Lic # 026808) as a Bed and Breakfast. However, we no longer serve hot breakfast.
A coffee, tea and cider station is prepared on the shared deck each morning for your enjoyment. Also you will find fruit and yogurt in your room.
- a shared but beautiful back deck beneath 200 year old Grand Live Oaks
- a crabbing and shrimping dock where you may catch bait fish for that big expedition later in the day or you may choose to load into our free kayaks and explore the glorious marsh and tidal creek (at high tide).
Finally, we offer a friendly host who has local knowledge and a serene backyard setting with intrusions from very few other guests. (We only rent three rooms.)
We feel this makes us a little above average. Our price-point is exactly right for some folks. We truly wish you the best in finding your perfect getaway location.

What we are
We are a 1960’s brick rancher with three guest rooms which happen to each have a private entrance for your room and a private bath. You won’t be walking through our living room to reach your guest quarters or your private bath. (Sorry to have to say that two ways but we will still get questions about it.)
We are a licensed business and the town of James Island, SC allows 3 rooms in your home to be a legal bed and breakfast.
We once served a hot breakfast but Covid-19 moved us to put more snacks in your rooms and stop the hot meal interface. (Probably not a great loss in a foodie city like Charleston.)
I am on-site, accessible by messenger most of the time and live at the opposite end of the house from our guest rooms.
We are located in a wooded and picturesque section of the town with a tidal creek in the backyard.
Our kayaks are available for your free use during high tide each day. Just ask us for a safety, navigation and regulatory briefing.
We love pets but are no longer able to allow pets on our home. Pets are allowed in our Boathouse listing.

Our stay at Dan’s place was great. We’ve stayed many times now in all three rooms. It’s unlike most of the places we’ve stayed before. 3 rooms in his home but don’t worry about that. Each room, even the small ones have their own private entrance and private bath, so it’s not like walking through his living room.
He’s a good guy with a fair amount of local intel. He’s around as much as you want him. He seems to read people pretty well and won’t bore you with too much info and will disappear if he senses that’s what the guest wants.
The large room (some call it a suite but it’s really a large bedroom with large closet spaces and a fairly large bath) is the choice every time if available. It’s a little more expensive than the smaller rooms but still inline with prevailing rates.
There’s kayaking in the creeks around the island all the way to Charleston harbor if you have that much time (and strength). The neighborhood is good for walking especially since they’ve just repaved much of it.
The location is perfect for us near family but for the average traveller it should be okay-about half way between Folly Beach and Downtown Charleston. As the crow flies they’re each about 4 or 5 miles, I am told, and time is purely dependent on traffic-it can be a challenge.
In warm weather, the huge Liveoak trees catch a small bit of the afternoon sea breeze and make sitting on the deck or dock bearable.
We enjoy it for 2-4 days because there is no kitchen access and as much as we love being foodies in Charleston, after a few days we need to cook. (There always has been coffee, tea, yogurt, fruit and some cookies in the rooms so snacking is easy.)
You may bump into some other guests especially during the season, but it’s hardly like Penn Station.
If you don’t want to leave the island to go downtown try eating at Edison and for good pizza, subs and salads, try Paisanos. Both can be walked.
We think you’ll like it and we recommend it.
