Enjoy your own cozy space in large home. Easy access to transit and just steps away from historic Mt. Tabor Park. Secluded back yard in quiet neighborhood, with plenty of on-street parking. Morning beverage service included.
Both our household and our location are unique.
Our home is located just steps from Mt. Tabor - actually, an extinct volcano - which is a large historic city park full of interlacing trails, tennis courts, stately evergreens, and offering astounding views of our city and the park's huge open reservoirs. Our streets do not offer "through" traffic access, so they are quiet and used by residents and guests only.
Our household comprises four people: Tom, your host; Cinthia, a woman from Brazil, whose lively personality lights up the place, Joel, her sweet husband, and Sarah, a veteran world traveler who joined our household in December.
Together, we offer a diverse yet friendly and harmonious set of personalities with a welcoming attitude and holistic worldview. We have all traveled quite a bit, especially in the Americas, and we know you will enjoy your time with us. We are also a 420-friendly household.
Extra added attraction! Book now and I will send you my new - and continually updated - pdf document called "Portland Tips And Tricks". This is a fun listing of things in and around Portland that you will NOT find in the usual tourist literature. You'll find the odd, hidden, sometimes barely legal diversions that can make all the difference between a "usual" trip and a truly memorable one. It's loaded with clickable "hyperlinks" to scores of online resources that you won't want to miss. This is UNIQUE.....I know that because I wrote it!!
Guests will have access to their private room, their own (not shared) full bathroom across the hallway, and the rest of the downstairs MINUS the kitchen. You ARE welcome to store restaurant "doggie bags" or other small things in the refrigerator, and to use the microwave oven, but cooking is not possible. (We are all avid cooks and we use the kitchen A LOT!)
In sunnier seasons, you will also enjoy a lovely secluded backyard.
Interaction with Guests
I, Tom, am around the house quite a bit, with the other folks less so. We are all friendly people, but you will probably interact with me most of the time. I am a native Portlander, and love to offer advice and tips on how to get the most out of your visit. I was an airbnb host for three years in a different nearby location, and have learned that while each traveler is unique, there are some definite commonalities in the things that attract people to Portland and I try to be of service as much as possible.
I also respect your need for privacy, and I always keep in mind that you are here to enjoy Portland, and not my charming sense of humor!
Historic Mt. Tabor is close to many amenities, yet is quiet and picturesque. Anchored by one of Portland's largest and oldest city parks (and situated on an extinct volcano), our neighborhood is blessed with grand homes and shady streets perfect for walking and talking. Or, take an easy hike up the mountain, where you'll encounter grand panoramic views of our city and our historic open reservoirs. Stately evergreens shade hiking trails and tennis courts, picnic sites, and even a summer concert venue in the volcano's ancient caldera!
After all that walking, you will want to check out Portland's famous food carts, and lots of them are located within easy walking distance along Division St, just a block south....featuring food from all over the world at "takeaway" prices.
Venture further west on Division and you will be in the middle of one of the "10 hottest restaurant districts in the USA" (and along the way you will encounter an endearing street art installation of miniature bronze figures based on historic district culture).
Or go east on Division to the "Jade District" and a pan-Asian culinary escapade offering old- and new-school approaches to some of our favorite foods.
We are located just blocks from Trimet Routes #4 (east-west) and #71 (north-south), your transit gateways to the entire city. Frequent service, web-based trip planning, and easy transfers to other bus routes or Max Light Rail make it easy to get around Portland.
Airport access is easy during transit hours, with Max Light Rail connecting you to the #71 bus route, which drops you a couple of blocks from us. If the weather is terrible, or you are carrying a lot of stuff, I am usually available for a pickup at the 60th Street Max Station at no charge.
If you are arriving by train or bus, transit access to and from Union Station and Greyhound depots (located adjacent to each other downtown) is easy during transit hours.
For an overall picture of our transit system, check out (website hidden) for fares, routes, schedules, and easy trip planning. You can also download their app from the site.
If you will be using a car, there is plenty of free onstreet parking....just be sure not to block a neighbor's driveway or mailbox!
Other Things to Note
Portland is not called "Beervana" for nothing! I am a former home-brewer and lover of all things ale, so I can point you to some great resources within our burgeoning brewing scene.
Safe, secure bike storage is available in the backyard.
We encourage an atmosphere of mutual respect and consideration, so "house rules" are pretty much unnecessary, except for the "kitchen rules" as described in the Guest Access section. I was an airbnb host in another nearby location for three years, where my guests and I always got along (email hidden)rt of the reason I LOVE hosting! The one thing I do encourage from my guests is feedback about your experience while you are here....what have I forgotten, or how can I make your experience the absolute best? I would much rather be able to address concerns on the spot, than get a less than perfect review!! :)
My host Tom was welcoming and made sure I was comfortable and knew where everything was. The room was large with lamp bedside for reading and also had a large closet with plenty of hangars. The private bath allowed me to leave my toiletries on the large counter. I had a pleasant 3 night stay and would definitely stay there again.
Tom was Really helpful and knowledgeable on all things about Portland!! He went out of his way to give us a comprehensive list on good pizza spots ;) he made us feel like we were getting to see the best of Portland on a short amount of time. He was very welcoming and assured us we can come and go as we please without worrying about disturbing anyone during our stay. It was nice having our own bathroom and shower also! Great price especially if you just need somewhere to sleep if you're going to be out all day.
This was my first time using air bnb and my first time to Portland. Tom was everything my boyfriend and I could have hoped for. He was a super awesome, informative, helpful, and kind host. He took us in like we were family- so did his roommates. The room was perfect. The location was perfect. We did rent a car so not only did we do things in town, we went to Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens, and the Oregon cost. Tom helped with directions as well as told us cool stories about his experiences. I would definitely recommend staying at Toms place if you want to be surrounded by good vibes. I am grateful for the experience and hospitality. I hope all air bnb hosts are as wonderful as Tom! :)
Tom was an amazing host! He is very knowledgeable about Portland and is very enthusiastic to help you find good places to go. The neighborhood is gorgeous and extremely close to District st. (a main line into downtown Portland).
The room and the bathroom are very nice and clean, and everyone in the house is friendly. (The hot tub was really relaxing and clean as well).
I was a little nervous about the comfort of a futon, but this one is unlike any I've ever felt. It's totally soft and you would never guess it was a futon. I will definitely try to book with Tom again the next time I'm in town.
Tom welcomed me and explained everything I needed to know.
I loved his hot tub that I could relax at night. Unfortunately, it was raining almost the whole time while I was there. But warm enough room and his hospitality to make great memories of Portland.
Tom was great very accommodating, the room was great , bed was comfy, overall a great experience for the price you can't beat it!
Tom was an excellent host. We were warmly welcomed and made to feel at home right away. The room was perfect, just as described, with a private bathroom. Great neighbourhood, great roommates, great hot tub, and lots of useful information about Portland. I would highly recommend staying with Tom and co. any day.
