3 brdm, 2 ba family home
We have a three bedroom, two bath rustic modern home in picturesque Mill Valley, on the border of Golden Gate Recreation Area. Our home is truly a private retreat, with every window looking out into a densely forested gulch. Our living room has cathedral ceilings, open beams, and floor to ceiling windows. You can see no other homes from the deck. At night it is perfectly silent, aside from the sounds of coyotes, owls, and a seasonal creek.
The house sleeps five adults, plus children. The layout:
-- Master bedroom: One king bed and private wooded deck.
-- Guest (or kids) bedroom: Two twin beds and a small private deck.
-- Office (or additional guest room): Pullout couch (queen-sized), plus a desk.
There are dozens of hiking trails within walking distance. Muir Beach, Green Gulch Zen Center are both about a 3 mile hike away.
You would want a rental car if staying here. Our home is about 5 min to downtown Mill Valley, 10 min to the Golden Gate Bridge, 15 min to the Marina/Inner Richmond/Presidio neighborhoods in SF and 25 min to downtown SF.
Room is like exposure to the forest, looking out of the window of the living room of the scenery is very beautiful, outside the hammock, trampoline, mountain road by children's favorite, drive down the mountain is a special experience. Many children toys, son was very happy, reluctant to leave.
This house is beautiful and felt very spacious with high ceilings, internal windows in the upper rooms opening up to the rest of the house, and large external windows throughout the house opening up to nature - very green - big, beautiful trees. Balconies from the rooms seemed to extend the invitation to relax and enjoy being outside. The sound system was great! We were able to enjoy the music from all rooms without having it overpower our conversations. My husband enjoyed the acoustic guitar and my kids loved playing the drum. Great selection of kids night time books and toys (my kids favs - trunk with dress up toys, kids mini kitchen with mini dishes and food, etc)! And because we had very little time during this trip we are so grateful that Laura had the kitchen stocked with breakfast food (oj, milk, eggs, bread, cereal, great coffee, good selection of tea). Also we are thankful for the beautiful flowers and the wine (even though we didn't get a chance to drink it). Laura was very easy to reach and made sure we were comfortable and informed of the different hikes and restaurants/stores in the area.
Laura was an amazing host! She was very generous about leaving us things to use and even some food (all organic) wrote me all kinds of helpful information in advance and, unbelievably, in the midst of her own busy weekend, ran over to give us the tv remote which she had left in her bag (we never missed it!).
The house is truly gorgeous, as is the setting, and lay out of the house was perfect for our family. The entire family (including my husband and 2 boys, aged 19 and 21) all LOVED both house and setting. We regretted that we only had a host stay but it was based on my son's work schedule.
Though we never got to meet Laura face to face, she was very helpful over the phone. The view was stunning and we definitely had a great time relaxing in the mountain. Thank you!
Laura was such a thoughtful & accommodating host. The fridge was stocked with essentials & the home was perfectly set up for a family with young children. We have three little ones & they couldn't get enough of the backyard creek down the hill. We spent hours exploring & catching/releasing critters. This beautiful home is any nature loving families dream getaway spot!
This house is incredible for anyone looking for a family-friendly spot that's totally unique and secluded. We used it as a girlfriend's get-away and it was perfect. It's literally at the furthest end of a windy road, you feel like you're in a loved cabin in the jungle (a well designed one with lots of windows)--so dreamy. Just a short hike to a ridge overlooking the ocean.
Laura was tops as far as communicating in advance of our stay and left a bottle of (very nice) wine, fresh strawberries and lovely organic bread and eggs. I highly recommend this property and would stay there again.
Very nice peaceful house! Nestled away in the woods - you can hear a stream on the patio. Laura was very responsive and a great host.
