Casa Esperanza is located in the quaint fishing village of Esperanza on the south coast which definitely is the buzzing tourist side of the island with beaches such as Sun Bay, Esperanza Beach, Media Luna, Navio, and also restaurants, bars, and shops within walking distance from the house.
This newly decorated rental is located a little off the street, so there is private parking inside the lot under a carport and there is also a large shady backyard with patio furniture and hammocks to laze around in enjoying the breeze and garden or use the outdoor shower. A new outdoor covered porch has been added along with an additional bathroom.
This season we have also improved the inside of our rental with some new amenities. There is new living room furniture and the kitchen has also been updated with new linens, supplies, and cookware. The bedrooms and bathroom have also been redone with new furniture, mattresses, and also higher quality linens. Some of the amenities include Gas BBQ, hammock, fully equipped kitchen, A/C in the bedrooms for your sleeping comfort, ceiling and floor fans throughout the house to keep the breezes flowing, HI-DEF TV w/ satellite and DVD player, Radio/CD Player, guest book with travel information, book, CD and DVD library, fresh linens, new washing machine, beach towels, beach chairs, cooler, a 5 -10 min walk to the beach, restaurants, and shops. We also offer complimentary pick up and delivery service to the house with information and maps, and directions. If you do stay with us, you will treated to some insider information since I have been working, on this island, in the hospitality industry for 22 years and have been managing properties (mine, and other people's) for 8 years and my husband is a native Viequenese who loves to share his island awareness with those who are willing to respect his culture.
We would truly help to make your vacation an enjoyable one.
If you have any questions, or need more info please do not hesitate to get ahold of me. Would love to see you on vacation and introduce you to the amazing island of Vieques.
Please only smoking outside on the back patio or on the front porch.
Please only use A/C in bedrooms at night for your sleeping pleasure. Do not let them run during the day,
Warm welcome pickup at ferry by Michelle. How in perfect shape. Full kitchen with breakfast bar. 2 Br Perfect for four. Our fifth was on couch/futon in cozy living room with great TV with satellite. Nice outside shower next to new covered patio with table and chairs for eating. Also second separate bathroom with shower. Michelle and Juan's art fills the house with beauty (Juan's art was being shown at the fort in Isabella segunda; the couple runs a great local artisan/t-shirt stand on the Malecon). Available snorkels and kayaks for rent and beach chairs and coolers free of charge. 4x4 Cherokee for 4 day rental, treated well, got us to all places on the (website hidden) in bedrooms with new fans for all rooms kept us comfy at night and masked the tropical village noises. 5+ minute walk to stores and Malecon. Neighbor dog Linda kept us friendly company. 5 days and nights at Casa Esperanza washed away the New England winter blues. Thanks Michelle and Juan.
Beautiful, clean home off of Esperanza's main drag. The neighbors chickens didn't bother us, but if you're a light sleeper you may want to consider bringing earplugs.
I would definitely stay here again!
Wow, I was not going to review Michelle thinking to each their own, but after the nasty review she left for me, I have no choice. Upon arrival Michelle swindled $75 in cash from us for a "cleaning fee" that was not mentioned anywhere and I know is strictly against Airbnb policy. She said: 'Airbnb takes enough of my money, I don't want them taking a cut of this too.' So instead of getting into a confrontation on our vacation, I paid her the $75 in cash. Then, yes, we left some dishes in the sink (glasses only mind you, we did not cook at the house) and did she expect us to wash the sheets for her? The house had 2 beds, was one off limits? We took an extra blanket from the linen closet? Is that not what they are there for? As for the noise I have no idea what she's referring to as you could hardly enjoy a peaceful evening or morning without the neighbor's tv blaring and the roosters that start crowing at 3AM and don't stop. Not to mention the rotting mangoes dropping with a startling "thump" every so often on the back roof. So, we made the most of our stay but yes, we left a few dishes in the sink and we slept in the beds (?!) and didn't take her trash out for her. I figured the $75 would cover it.
The cleaning fee is charged to all my guests and was agreed to before reservation was made with Airbnb, and the charge that Airbnb charges for their service to the renter has nothing to do with my cleaning charge due upon arrival. Actually this website says to deal with cleaning charge on an individual basis and do not charge through their service. It is not that I really minded the dishes that much--it was just that they were not rinsed out and there was stuff in them for a couple of days. Also do not mind my guests using whatever is in the house, just ask that they treat it with respect-which I believe was the element that was lacking in this situation and that has nothing to do with a cleaning fee!
We had a wonderful time staying at Casa Esperanza. Michelle was great throughout the entire experience, communicating with us before the trip and throughout it. She picked us up at the ferry terminal and provided a very helpful meet & greet to help us get situated. We took up Michelle's suggestions to check out Sun Bay Beach and we rented bikes from Black Beard Sports and had a blast. I would absolutely recommend staying at Casa Esperanza. If (actually WHEN I go back to Vieques) I plan to stay at Casa Esperanza again.
Casa Esperanza was exactly what we needed- close to the main street, restaurants and beach, bright, airy and surrounded by nature. Michelle was very accommodating and a great host- who gave us helpful tips and pointe dus in the right direction. House was very clean and well maintained. I would definitely recommend anyone coming to stay to make arrangements to rent a car, as it will be virtually impossible to get around to the more remote and beautiful beaches. Thanks again for making our stay so comfortable and enjoyable!
Casa Esperanza was exactly what we needed. It is bright and airy, lots of space, and is equipped with most things you need for a stay in Vieques. Short walk to the malecón and also a shop that sells essentials. We rented Michelle and Juan's RAV 4, snorkeling gear, and also their kayak for a cruise on Mosquito bay on the moonless night. You couldn't ask for a better experience!
Be prepared for the hens, chicks, and roosters in the yard. We knew they would be there so weren't bothered, but if you're not expecting it it could be surprising. No need to bring an alarm clock! :) If you're not fond of nature waking you up, pack some ear plugs.
March 2012 marked our fourth trip to Vieques. The previous 3 visits we stayed at the very lovely and well suited Hector's by the Sea.
Last year, when we began to plan our 2012 visit to Vieques, we decided that we did not enjoy the need to eat out every evening and that if we wanted to begin to extend our days on the island.....it was time to look at rental homes.
I discovered Casa Esperanza on airbnb.com and after reading all the posted information, I submitted a booking request almost immediately. From Michelle's (M) almost immediate response, I knew I had made the right choice for the two of us.
About a month before our arrival date, M emailed me requesting our arrival information and we quickly arranged a meet and greet. I called M just before boarding our Cape Air flight and she was at the VQS terminal waiting for us with our rental car, which we rented directly from her.
When we arrived at Casa Esperanza (CE), the house was exactly as it appeared on the website. M showed us around, discussed the house rules and after making sure we had her cell number, just in case we needed to reach her, we were left to make CE our home for the next eight days.
CE is a lovely 2BR 1 bath home with a wonderful, open floor plan. As it was only the two of us, there was more than ample room. The living, dinning and kitchen area can easily support occupants of the second bedroom. The kitchen has a great layout and the generous amount of counter space is a great bonus. It is well stocked with pots and pans, dishes for four and a well rounded amount of utensils. As the cook of our family, I felt the house was lacking in bowls for both mixing/preparing and serving. As CE has only been rented for just over a year, I understand stocking a kitchen can take time. We gladly added a couple of larger plastic bowls to its inventory.
Additional amenities include a large backyard, patio area with a lovely high top patio table & chairs and BBQ grill, which we used quite often, beach chairs and cooler. The patio lighting creates a very romantic setting in which to enjoy each other's company, but candles are definitely needed for eating out once it gets dark.
Air conditioners are installed in both bedrooms, but we found the ceiling fans always kept us comfortably cool without being cold.
The above is meant to be a glowing review of Casa Esperanza, but it also has its "quirks"; hot water only on demand in the shower, no other hot water, and roosters, roosters, roosters.......and, of course, chickens, chickens, chickens!!!!
Dealing with no hot water was easy as I learned to heat a small pot of water at meal times for washing dishes and cleaning the counters. As far as the poultry, they woke us up very early every morning and kept us awake for awhile, but we eventually got used it. :-)
We did not find these "quirks" to be a negative reflection of CE, as we recognize these to be what makes Vieques........Vieques!!! There is lodging on Vieques that is less quirky, but will come with a much higher price tag. Casa Esperanza is a terrific value for those who prefer to experience all that Vieques has to offer!!!
Michelle & Juan are fantastic people. They went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed to make our stay memorable. Even though this was our fourth trip to Vieques, thanks to Michelle and her openness we did and saw things that we had not done or seen before. When we left, we felt we were leaving new friends behind!!!
We are already planning our return trip to Casa Esperanza next March!!
Please feel free to contact me for more information.
