The space
The idea of this unique little house was generated when Venetians came to concour the island of Tinos in 1207ac. They carried the pigeons with on board to their travels.
Pigeons or doves were a spicies unknown to Tinians till then.
For Tinos, pigeon houses(dovecote) and pigeons became a vital factor to their culture.
They where built with maximun two floors. The first floor was used as storage for farmers equipement and other.
The top floor had a special design so pigeons could go rest.
This allowed farmers to collect the manure created, to their fields.
Pigeons manure is till now, the best quality there is.
Many times though people used pigeons also as a food source.
In 1715ac the Tinitian land had a new conqueror, Turks.
Fortunately, a deal was made between Turks and Tinians.
By giving a tax to the Sultan, Tinians could use their own land with no interference.
That was the time that we have the first official record of a Dovecote, owned by a Tinian(1726ac).

Γειά σας! (The way we say hello in Greece) My name is Katerina. It will be my pleasure to introduce you to our lovely island Tinos and explore all the different sides of it! It is a place that inspires you. You can easily find peace and feel part of the nature. With a good book in your hand, you can find all the little fairy corners to relax, listen to the running water and learn about the island's history. Tinos is a mix of water and mountains (the wind element is very strong too). Here, mother earth provides everything for us! When we go out surfing, we gather greens, before or after the session and go home, make a great meal for everyone! When there are no waves, ride a donkey, follow the paths, stop for a second on the way and have a bouldering experience. There so many great spots! There is so much to explore out here. Clear cleansing water, tradition, good food and lots of free fun!
