Fully furnished, self contained apartment right on the banks of beautiful Kaldfjord. Watch whales swim by the windows, pick wild berries on the mountains, see the northern lights dance overhead or fish from the jetty under the midnight sun.
Tromsø is an amazing city but its real charm lies in the surrounding landscape rather than the city itself. Our apartment gives visitors the chance to live sandwiched between the mountains and the fjord and to experience the wild beauty of the arctic. At the same time, they are just a bus ride away from both the downtown area and the airport.
In the flat, guests have access to a fully furnished flat including washing machine, wireless internet and DVD player. In addition to this they have access to vast mountain areas for hiking or skiing, a stunning fjord and jetty for ocean fishing and a bicycle for summer touring.
Interaction with Guests
We are happy to help guests get to know the area but also like to give them the freedom to relax, enjoy and explore themselves.
Located on Kvaløya, the apartment is 20kms outside the city centre of Tromsø. This gives you perfect access to the spectacular scenery and natural beauty that surrounds the city. Towards the end of a cul de sac street, the neighbourhood is quiet and friendly, populated by wildlife as well as people.
Parking is available for tenants on site. Buses to the city centre also stop right outside the door. While the times for these may be limited, another bus stop with a very regular timetable is located about 35 minutes walk away along the edge of the fjord. Beside this bus stop is also a wonderful supermarket with everything you need and selling lots of local fresh produce and products. In the summer, tenants can borrow a bicycle for an additional transport option.
Other Things to Note
We have a minimum three night stay
We hope that tenants can treat the apartment as their own and respect the quiet natural beauty of the neighbourhood. We ask that all tenants leave the apartment in the same state in which they found it.
We had a great time at the apartment. It is well set up with a good kitchen, bathroom and washing machine. Breathtaking location, with views over a fjord and mountains. Location is close to tromso, but far enough away to feel away from the city and relaxed. Fern was a great host, and was very kind and helpful when the airport lost my luggage. We saw a good show of the northern lights from the front lawn, and surgery just down the street, where there is forest you can walk in. We very much enjoyed our time here and would highly recommend it.
We stayed in Fern's apartment for 4 days in March. We never actually met Fern but were welcomed by her partner Jerrard, who gave us some lovely salmon to eat during our stay. Fern responded quickly to any commuication, questions etc prior to our stay.
The apartment was clean and very warm, with a lovely view over the fjord, and had a small kitchen area with some basic cooking utensils. There were various food items left by previous tenants, but we did not use any as some were out of date, as we had purchased some of our own.
We did not manage to see the northen lights at the apartment, as the weather was either cloudy or snowy. We had already booked on to a photography tour with Creative Vacations and were driven to Finland to clear skies, by Vidar where we were treated to a beautiful display, and would definitely recommend his tour.
The apartment is a short drive from Tromso, and we would defintely recommend hiring a car to get the most out of your stay. We would love to come back and stay for at least a week as the Tromso area has so much to offer and beautiful surrounding scenery.
It was great experience to stay at Fern's. We loved the location despite the distance from Tromso, its such a beautiful spot, close to nature. We could see the aurora from there and overall just had the best time there. The apartment got everything we needed and we recommend it to everyone looking for a quite time from the city. It was the best place we ever stayed with airbnb.
Apartment is very clean and cosy completely self contained. Great views and saw the Northern Lights from our garden. The bed is so comfortable I struggled to get out of it. We hired a car 4x4 as it was very snowy but worth it 20 mins to main Tromso and 2 mins drive to local supermarket Fern is lovely and let us borrow her DVDs. Lovely break away highly recommend staying here
A lovely, private spot accurately described as being between the fjord and the mountains. The apartment is under the main house giving you independence knowing you won't interrupt Fern and Jay. All facilities are clean, warm, spacious - and beautiful views.
We hired a car to get around and would recommend you do the same to be truly independent. Having said that, the best northern lights I've ever seen were from a few hundred metres up the road. Yes, your far enough away from the lights of Tromsø to get a fairly dark sky. If you need / want a darker sky, take the 862 away from Tromsø across the pass on Kvaløysletta or head to Ersfjordbotn. Both are around a 15 minute drive and also give fantastic views away from city lights.
Lastly, Fern and Jay and helpful and lovely. Do them - and yourself a favour - and ask if there's anything they need from where ever you're flying in from. Tromsø is a big town but it's still limited in what you can buy.
