The space

A luxury award winning period property, built in the time of Edward I, (we think it was built approx 1270) - the first historical mention is in 1307 when Bogo de Knovil died and his estate reverted to the Crown. So this Grade II* medieval hideaway boasts seven hundred years of history - and with its towers it feels like you are living in a castle.

Inside

Extensively refurbished in 2008, the Gatehouse offers a charming loft-style living area within its ancient structure, retaining the beams, thick walls, and stone mullion windows. A deep leather sofa, wood burning stove and delightful sleeping space, all add to a uniquely romantic experience. You can even climb up to the top of the tower, to the viewing platform!
Heating is provided by night storage heaters and the wood burning stove.
The property boasts a modern 'wet room' with shower, a fully fitted kitchen with oven and hob, fridge and small freezer. Downstairs there is a washing machine and tumble dryer if you need it.
TV with freeview, DVD player, CD player with ipod docking facility.
Please note, this ancient building's charm includes a steep spiral staircase. Access to the gallery bedroom is via a companionway ladder, and requires you to duck underneath a beam. If you have any challenges around mobility please look at the accessibility statement. Note we advise you to bring a couple of smaller bags rather than one very heavy and large (URL HIDDEN) the steep spiral staircase has some 30 steps to get to the main living area, and space on the staircase is restricted.

Fairy take experience. We loved this place! You need to be able to navigate a small tight circular stair case to access the flat but it's worth it.

The gatehouse is wonderful. It's very cozy and warm. Great for a cool evening to sit in front of the fire and relax. The Miller's Arms pub is a few minute walk away and the food is wonderful. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our time and look forward to returning for another stay.

wow!! so wonderful. the gatehouse is absolutley beautiful. right out of a dream! juliette was wonderful, regrettably we never met but she was very responsive and provided above and beyond-- little details such as postcards to send home. very enjoyable holiday here, our only complaint is that we did not schedule more time to stay longer :) we will highly reccomend the gatehouse to everyone we know!

I wish I could give more than 5 stars-- or just live in the Gatehouse forever. My fiancé and I had an absolutely wonderful time during our stay. It felt like we were in our own private castle, with the spiral staircase and towers and exposed brick and tapestry-like curtains. But it also felt like a home: a big comfy couch, a fireplace, and so many special touches, including a welcome basket and bathrobes and an essay on the fascinating history of the Gatehouse. Juliet provided a wealth of information on the Gatehouse and surrounding area that made everything easy, and staying in the Gatehouse was definitely a vacation highlight. My fiancé and I would recommend to anyone and would love to stay again!

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Welsh Gatehouse! We loved staying in this unique, historic, property. Our hosts, Juliet and William, were very welcoming and helpful. They gave us great local tips, answered all of our questions, and were knowledgeable about the property and local history. The Gatehouse was a good spot for us to explore South Wales from, and we went on several day-trips to surrounding sites. We were very comfortable in the Gatehouse and had everything we needed during our stay.

We had an *amazing* time at the Gatehouse. The photos just don't do it justice. Everything is so beautiful done, from the generous welcome basket to the view from the top of the tower. We loved every aspect of our stay and Juliet was easily reachable by phone for any questions we had. We can't wait to return to the Gatehouse!
