Description

The Space

Fuchsia Lane is a quiet cottage, set in a secluded courtyard surrounded by farmland. The loft bedroom, which sleeps two, is exceptionally peaceful with comfortable beds. Downstairs the spacious living area includes a fully stocked kitchen and a lovely wood-burning stove. There's plenty of space for all your things, and the separate sunroom overlooks a private patio and garden with gorgeous sunset views. With uncluttered contemporary décor, in a traditional stone cottage, you get the best of both worlds.

Fuchsia Lane is surrounded by a network of quiet roads, ideal for country walks, and just a few kilometres from beautiful sandy beaches. On the Wild Atlantic Way, it is a great base for a walking, cycling or watersports holiday, or simply a quiet retreat. You'll love the silence and the feeling of being far away from traffic and crowds.

The cottage is a lovely place to stay all year round. If you enjoy quiet nights, plus plenty of space to cook the wonderful local produce, it is ideal. Meanwhile, Fuchsia Lane is a ten minute drive from Schull, one of West Cork's loveliest and liveliest villages, with pubs, restaurants, specialist food markets, and excellent watersports.

Guest Access

The cottage has its own private garden and patio.

Interaction with Guests

Expect a warm welcome! We meet our guests on arrival, show them around and make sure their needs are met, and then we leave them in peace. Fuchsia Lane is a very private space but our house is just across the courtyard if you need us.

The Neighborhood

The cottage is 4 miles/6.5 km west of Schull, which is on the Wild Atlantic Way. We're close to beautiful sandy beaches and the extraordinary walks of Barleycove, Mizen Head, Sheep's Head and Three Castles Head, but there are also gorgeous local walks on the network of small roads around the house. There's very little traffic but you may have to make way for the occasional cow!

You'll be spoilt for choice for things to do around Schull. Some of our favourites are Schull Farmers' Market on Sunday morning; a walk (or bike ride) to Ballyrisode for a swim - or to our secret favourite beach, only revealed to guests! Schull boasts more than its fair share of boutique-style shops, like Enibas for jewellery, Pebbles for fab Irish knits, and a great bookshop where you can sip coffee as you browse. You can book a day of sailing or kayaking at fairly short notice. Then a Friday evening exhibition opening at the Blue House Gallery - a great opportunity to meet local artists and art lovers. Follow it up with a pint at Newmans West or Hacketts and fish and chips at the pier for a perfect night out.

Other Things to Note

The minimum stay is seven days from Saturday to Saturday. In the quieter months or at short notice we will accept a stay of 4 - 6 days.

I live with my husband Tony close to the furthest SW corner of Ireland. I'm a keen gardener, walker, reader and swimmer in the cold sea; Tony paints. As guests we're fairly quiet and like to leave our accommodation as if we hadn't been there. Our holidays tend to be in warm places or in lively cities - the opposites of where we live. As hosts we aim to be hospitable and friendly, while guarding our guests' peace and privacy as our neighbours across the yard.
My ambition is to do a long hiking holiday.
