Check In
  • The room, to my point of view was not so clean. I found an empty pack of facial mask left in the my room. The pack was dust meaning stayed in the room for long time. Mr. Kazuo may be too busy to clean up the washroom and bathroom. The dinning room is quit large in terms of four people. It is excellent that the location is close to Musashiseki station, taking not much time to walk to take transport. The surroundings have many kinds of restaurants, banks, supermarkets that is convenient for travelers.

  • Great quiet location, slightly outside of the metro area, but very safe and secure, very minimal traffic in the location. Would stay there again and recommend

  • pros: easy access, close to station, flexible check in/out, quiet area, not so many people in the house most of the time, close to cheap foods n convenience store
cons: pretty old, not as clean as in the pics, crowded during the weekend.

  • We were a bit disappointed. One small WC and shower room for guests in seven rooms are not enough. Accordingly, both were not the cleanest you would expect. It was also not the nicest place in terms of furniture. Out room included a broken closet. Okay, there was also a working one, but broken things don't contribute to nice atmosphere. As a hostel, what it basically is, there are lovelier ones.
Kazuo was available after seven pm, a time we did not want to wait for after arriving at noon. In case of questions, there would have been phone contact only.

  • Great place as it's quiet in the day and gives us privacy. We stayed here for 8 nights and this is really value for money. Located really close to Musashi Seki station.

  • Not very central location, but we knew that going in and the price reflected this. Kazuo is very helpful, the place was nice for the price.

  • Kazuo-san runs a tight ship. The house is a well-run shared home for travelers and other short- and medium- term residents. The place stays relatively clean given the number of people living here. Students and others used to communal living will find it exceeds expectations. Neat-freaks might get itchy in common areas.

My room was spotless when I arrived. When the air conditioner died, Kazuo-san replaced it immediately. Wi-fi reception was good pretty much everywhere. The house was pretty much silent at all hours, save a few good conversations around dinnertime.

I had a key to the room and house, but the house stayed unlocked for the week I was there. The neighborhood is quiet and quaint. Easy access to grocery and convenience stores, noodle shops, train station (1 min). There's a park w/ walking trails nearby (15 min) and a shrine (10 min).

Highly recommended. Book in advance because the house is popular and people tend to stay for extended periods.

  • Tucked away in a lovely, intimate little town of Musashi-seki; Shrek Watta is good for you if you don't mind a slightly prolonged commute to live in a the heart of a thriving local Japanese community. (Personally, we found the commute more than worth the while!)

Whilst slightly suburban, it was not lacking in amenities within the neighbourhood—surrounded by bookstores, soba/udon mom&pop stores, ramen bars, clinics, amazing yakitori directly above Shrek Watta, a park and more.

Not for those who are fussy about hygiene and bathroom-sharing, however. It is worth waking up slightly earlier to avoid the bathroom queue if you're heading here.

Great for those who enjoy their space and privacy—Kazuo-san pretty much left us alone, free to come and go after making sure everything was in order.

  • Nice location, a little bit outside of the busy part of town, but quite easy to reach, maybe like 70 minutes from Shibuya. The rooms are decent and provide most everything of what you might need, shared shower and bathroom, well equipped too. There's a fully equipped kitchen for you to use which can be quite handy. If you're very concerned with cleanliness then this might not be the perfect place for you, I found it easily acceptable though. Kazuo is a very responsible and nice host, he was always available for questions and he made our stay comfortable. The price value ratio is good and if you prefer a bit of a quieter part of Tokyo then this might be your place!
