Beautiful room in up and coming (gentrified): neighborhood! All the space you need (including your own bathroom & full access to kitchen) to relax and get some rest between Portland adventures!
Please allow me to show off my sweet hosting skills:)
Enjoy a large master bedroom with king sized bed, sitting area, Keurig coffee maker, hot water kettle, cable TV, free WiFi, shake weight (don't knock it til you try it;), balcony, and private bath. PLUS, full access to the kitchen and a shelf in the fridge stocked with your favorite (complimentary) breakfast items!
The house is located in the Historic Kenton neighborhood and is easily accessible by public transit, though there is also plenty of street parking.
Your space is the master bedroom and private bathroom located on the second floor of a new construction, energy efficient townhouse. The bedroom features a king bed (just purchased in February 2014) with plenty of soft linens and comfy pillows.
The room also features a sitting area with a cozy & sleek love seat, cable TV and a balcony with two sun loungers. More than 2 guests are welcome for $15 a night/person-no cost for kids under 10 (although we cannot provide an additional bed), and there is plenty of room for a travel crib.
The private bath features towels, full-size shampoo, conditioner, soap, and shower gel so you can save your TSA baggie for the things that really matter to you. There are also lots of complimentary samples and mini toiletries to purchase (at cost) if you forget anything. Blow dryer provided too!
Honor Bar stocked with lots of snacks and beverages at cost (rounded to nearest dollar amount). Let me know if there are any special treats that you would like to see to help make your trip special...
We are located near train tracks and the trains do sound their whistle when passing. We have never had any complaints with sound. In fact, most enjoy the occasional sound of the train. Earplugs will be provided for sensitive ears!
Sadly the home has stairs and is not ADA accessible.
We regret to say that we no longer have Rocket, Cassie's dog, in the house. Due to some health issues, we had to find a new, loving home for her. She is very happy in her new home & we miss her dearly.
Please make yourself at home!
Guests can come and go as they please using the keyless deadbolt. The code will be set to the last 4 digits of the phone number on the reservation.
Guests have access to their room and the main floor which features an open style kitchen, table, and a sitting area.
The kitchen has all you need to whip up breakfast (all the kitchen utensils and gadgets for most all dishes). You can help yourself to what is in the fridge & any spices.
Email a breakfast request in advance and your favorite items will be available to you.
Guests can also access the washer and dryer at no additional cost. Detergent supplied. There is an iron and small ironing board available as well in the laundry room.
Wifi is also included.
Interaction with Guests
Stephenie (the homeowner), Cassie & Will (the roommates) all work full-time, but are excited to get to know you.
If you check in during the workday you can let yourself in with our keyless deadbolt. Again, the code will be set to the last four digits of the phone number on the reservation. The bedroom is on the second floor with "welcome" on the door.
If you are checking in after the workday we will be home and happy to meet you.
We are available to recommend fun places to visit or eat, and are happy to give directions, but also respect your space and privacy.
The house is large enough that often times the guests will never see any of the residents of the house... not sure how this happens so often!
Feel free to check in with one of us for whatever you need. We are available by text, call, email any time!
The home is located in the Historic Kenton Neighborhood of North Portland.
Our neighborhood is located 7 miles/15 minutes from downtown Portland, 8 miles/15 minutes from Portland International Airport, and 4 miles/10 minutes from the Alberta Arts District.
In downtown Kenton you can find a public library, bank, coffee shop, local bars, delicious soul food at Po'Shines, the friendly neighborhood pet store, and more.
A short bus ride, bike, or car ride and you are at the Alberta Arts Area. Our favorite breakfast spot is Helser's on Alberta, and there is plenty of local shopping at shops like Frock and the Make House (where Stephenie's sister-in-law shows her creations).
Downtown is an easy Max Ride (30 minutes) features Pioneer Place Mall, underground tours, and Kell's Irish Pub.
There is plenty of free street parking in the dead end cul-de-sac that the house is in.
The home is located near bus line 4-St. Johns (4 blocks) and the Max Yellow Line Kenton Stop (5 blocks). My roommate Cassie has been car-less for most of her life and is happy to give you transit directions.
Once your reservation is confirmed you will get detailed directions about how to get to the house, but you have several options. For $20 I will pick you up, or you can hail a cab for around $30-45, or you can take the Max.
-No pets- sorry :(
-No smoking in the home, if you are a smoker we ask that you go outside (can use the balcony off the bedroom) and pick up your butts as a courtesy to our neighbors.
-Please no drug use or excessive drinking.
-Out of courtesy to our neighbors and us... quiet hours in effect after 10.
Stephenie and her roommate were great hosts, and we had a lovely time staying with them. The room is exactly as listed, and the bed is incredibly spacious and comfortable. Stephenie was quick to respond to any questions both before and during the trip, and had great recommendations. We had a great trip to Portland, and would highly recommend this place to any Airbnb guests!
A beautiful house in a lovely area. Stephanie was a very kind host and thought of everything. Would definitely stay again! Highly recommended!
Stephenie was super nice and helpful! It was great that she provided us with complementary breakfast as well. When we had time to talk to her she was friendly and told us about restaurants she liked as well. The room was homey, cozy, and lovely. The bed was super soft as well, it was a dream to fall into after a long day of traveling! The train does get a bit loud at night but if you're a deep sleeper like me you'll be fine, and Stephenie does provide earplugs as well! Definitely recommend staying here. :)
Stephanie (and Will her roommate!) is who/what makes Airbnb so special. She is kind, generous with her space, time, and hospitality, and Will is a laid back, interesting guy who is great to talk to and hang out with. I wasn't able to see Will outside of the house, but Stephanie and I went to dinner and drinks a couple of times; she is excellent company.
The home has 3 levels–upstairs bedrooms, middle floor kitchen/living area, and downstairs basement den.
The kitchen is well equipped and there is plenty of space in the fridge for you. Also, before you arrive, Stephanie asked what I liked for breakfast foods and had my self stocked with them beforehand! I've never heard of such a thing with Airbnb and helped push the value and pleasantness of the stay over the top. On that note, I made breakfast for myself nearly every morning, as did Will, and never felt uncomfortable or out of place in the least bit.
The downstairs den area was not quite finished/set up, although there is a couch, tv, and PS4 if you like. I used it only in the mornings to workout away from everyone.
As for your bedroom/the top floor: You'll have the master suite with your own private bathroom, private deck to hang out on, walk-in closet with plenty of room and hangers, and a large, incredibly comfortable bed with ample pillows and blankets. There is a laundry room right outside yours and you will have full access to. There is a train that you can hear quite loudly, but it won't bother you after 10pm or so (DO NOT let that stop you from staying here!). Stephanie and Will sleep in the two other bedrooms on the top floor with you and you will never even notice them. You will, however nearly feel bad for having the nicest room in their home to stay in while there, haha.
As for location: The house is situated about 12 minutes northwest of Alberta and MLK (an awesome neighborhood area north of downtown that has a few different areas with fantastic restaurants, food trucks, coffee shops, bars, and stores, 20 minutes from downtown, and 15 minutes from the airport. If you like to spend your days out and about, but feel like you've left the congestion of the city for the suburbs without being inconvenienced/far from all that is Portland at all, this is absolutely the perfect spot for you.
Have brunch on Saturday or Sunday at Helser's on Alberta. I also recommend going over to Mississippi and eating at Por Que No, drinking and eating at Interurban, and popping into a few of the shops.
Okay, so this was honestly as good as an Airbnb can get in my mind all things considered: hosts personalities/generosity/offering, value, location, etc. Your stay will be comfortable and as private as you would like it to be. Truly a home-away-from-home experience. Stay here. You will NOT regret it even for a moment.
Stephenie was absolutely wonder-full. She is warm, happy and a caring person...so nice to be in her company. Her description of her home is as I experienced it...perfect.
She lives on a dead-end street near a lovely park and an easy walk from the local light rail train stop. The setting couldn't be more perfect. Her home is lovely, clean and neat and my room was large and comfortable with a nice en suite bathroom.
There was nothing I needed that Stephanie that she didn't provide...even a stimulating conversation on my first night there. A lovely stay...only to be repeated one day.
The first thing I mentioned to Stephenie when she showed us our accommodations was that her photos did not do the place justice. It was fantastic. Clean, comfortable, inviting, and just what we needed. Stephenie is a lovely and caring host. We had a couple nice chats and she made it clear that she wanted us to feel at home. Had we forgotten anything, she had thought to provide it. Yes, there are trains, but she had earplugs of various sizes, if we needed. We live in a town with trains and they didn't bother us. My very pregnant daughter really appreciated the step stool for the bed and was well rested for our adventure in Portland. My grandson had fun playing outside on the deck. I felt at ease from the moment I met Stephenie and had one of the best times I've had in my many visits to Portland.
The location is great and within walking distance of a nice park and good food. It is also easy to access the highway and MAX. We would definitely stay at Stephenie's again! Thank you so much for creating a homey space. You don't have sweet hosting skills! You have sweet hosting instincts and talents! The best of the best!
Stephenie was a great host and very accommodating to both our early check-in and late check out. Her place is very large and very clean. One of the cleanest AriBnB's I've stayed in. The house nicely situated on a dead end street with a cool park and the neighborhood Kenton easy walk with shops, bars, etc. Close enough to the highway to get most places in town easily if driving and lots of public transportation. The only' downside' there are some noisy train tracks nearby (1/4-1/2 mile? away), she provides earplugs for sleeping, but it wasn't like you couldn't hold a conversation.
Hi, my name is Stephenie (see a little more about my 2 roommates: Will and Vinnie below) and I look forward to getting to meet you! I am a laid back, social justice minded professional who mentors youth. I am currently working with my mom and sister co-owning/managing two Curves franchises (a big shift from the last 8 years in which I was the Coordinator for an after school tutoring and mentoring program at a local high school). I loved my experience using Airbnb as a guest, so I decided to become a host.
I have a large family that is extremely important to me. I am lucky enough to have the house that everyone wants to come to to celebrate their birthdays and Christmas (don't worry... I'll block those days off so there are no surprise parties while you visit... unless you want some great food!)
I love to cook but rarely have enough time to do it. I have a couple Indonesian dishes that I'm good at (my mom was born in Indonesia and is half Indonesian and half Dutch-she is the Nederland speaker... not me, unfortunately). Aside from that (don't laugh) nachos are my favorite... I make a mean plate (and by plate I mean cookie sheet full) of nachos.
I am originally from the Bay Area (go Niners & Giants!!) I moved to Oregon to go to college (Go Ducks!) and love it here (Go Timbers!). I have been in the Portland area for 15 years (aside from the ~1 year I lived in St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands) so I know my way around pretty well. Between Cassie (see below), Will (see below), my iPhone, and I, we can get you where you need to go!
I can't wait to be able to share my house with you! I think I was born to host! Send your requests and I will make sure you have your favorite snacks, breakfast food, your shows DVRed (is that a word?) and waiting for you, or even a movie rented that you have been wanting to see but haven't gotten to go rent yet. Let me make you feel at home and on vacation at the same time!
I share my home with two permanent roommates Will, works for the same after school tutoring and mentoring program I used to work for and is originally from Florida. Vinnie just graduated from Columbia College in Chicago but is originally from North Portland and is now (also) working for the after school tutoring and mentoring program giving back to local students in need. We are all away from the home more than we would like so you will find yourself with the house to yourself quite a bit!
