About this listing
The villa has recently undergone major renovations. New kitchen, dining, bathroom and pool. Enjoy our colourful tropical garden. This is one of the best located villas in Sanur for the price. Walk to beach, restaurants and shops. You will be impressed
Entry to Rumah Gembira is through a decorative Balinese door opening out onto an inviting private pool and a lush garden beyond. There is an outdoor dining area and kitchen equipped with crockery, cutlery, frypan and saucepans. However, with the many eating places now offering take away or home deliveries, and the restaurant scene starting down the street you may never use it! Watch tv or dvd's from the air conditioned comfort of the king bed, or on the sofa. This bed sitting room is equipped with an overhead fan, plus a wall fan as well. The stone tiled ensuite has a hot and cold water shower. There is also a shower outdoors. Relax in the daytime on the comfy chairs on the patio. Some guests choose to swap these around with the sofa which can be opened out as an extra bed and the mosquito net hung to allow you to sleep outdoors. Just let Made know and he will set it up for you.
It's a short stroll to the beach which offers swimming, watersports, and seaside dining. Shopping starts even closer, along the restaurant strip. A transport stand is at the end of the lane should you wish to travel further afield. Taxis, or the quirky bemos, can be hailed along the main street. Parking is available within the compound through prior arrangement. Bike or scooter hire is available nearby. A walk/bike trail runs 4 km alongside the beach front passing many colourful shops and restaurants.
Interaction with guests
As Rumah Gembira is in the family compound, there is always someone readily available to answer your questions and assist with making your stay an enjoyable one. Made ( pronounced mah-day) will answer your queries or give you directions. Kadek is the housekeeper who comes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. She will keep you supplied with fresh drinking water and change your linen weekly.
We are on the eastern side of the island in an area with a much slower pace than Kuta or Legian, and not as crowded. Sanur village actively promotes its own festivals and customs. Tourists are welcomed with wide smiles. Most shops and markets are still owned and operated by Balinese, unlike many other tourist areas. There is a long "boardwalk" at the beach which is shaded in the afternoon. It is popular with joggers in the morning and cyclists. Along this path there are many restaurants and coffee shops. A great place to stop and enjoy the refreshing sea breeze and a cool drink while watching the fishermen, the children playing on the beach and the tourists trying out the various water sports. Head north to the beach markets, or stop under the trees for a massage or manicure.
Bicycle hire is cheap and fun. Motorbikes and scooters are also available. Taxis are plentiful and cruise up and down Jalan Danau Tamblingan as well as waiting at a nearby corner. Or you can wave down one of the little green bemos for very little payment. Comfortable air conditioned vans are available for longer trips. Choose one at the roadside and negotiate your rates or check our suggestions in the House Manual.
