The space

This is an offering for one of our large guest suites with a private bath. This is not an offering for the rental of the entire house. This historic home is large and inviting and elegantly furnished with English antiques, wool oriental rugs, and lovely artwork. Each suite has a queen bed and private bath. Each room has a TV with DirecTV, a ceiling fan, and comfortable seating. All guests enjoy a den, living room, and downstairs sitting room, plus the two big porches on the front of the house. We are well suited for young professionals, older couples, or solo travelers who want a safe, home-like environment. Please note: we not rent to smokers or vapers, not even those who promise to smoke outside. Also be advised, we have 3 gentle, low-dander Siamese cats. Also be advised, we have 3 gentle, low-dander Siamese cats who live in the house. Because we could have rented to others, we do not refund your stay if you arrive and announce you can't be around cats; this is your notice of their being here.

Guest access

We are offering use of one of our beautiful suites with a large bath. This is not a whole house rental. Enjoy the den and big screen TV. You may have the space to yourself, however, it just depends. We have a big porch on the first floor you are also welcome to enjoy. This is a big house and there are plenty of spaces for as much privacy as you want, or as much fun with the other guests as you desire.

Interaction with guests

We interact with guests a lot, if that is what they seem to want. I am as available as they desire, or as invisible as seems appropriate. Some people want complete privacy and others want to get to know us and the other guests and learn about Charleston and what it's like to live here. You can read our reviews to get a sense of how we interact. Most people are very friendly and outgoing and we really get to know them and feel a genuine pang when they must finally leave; it has been quite amazing to meet so many wonderful folks.

Other things to note

Starbucks is a half block away. Saffron restaurant is one block away. Harris Teeter grocery is 2.5 blocks away. The downtown shopping center with a drug store, liquor and wine store, and deli is 2 blocks away. King Street is 3 blocks away with fabulous shopping and dining.

We not rent to smokers, not even those who promise to smoke outside and not even to those who use vapor pens. Please no EXCESSIVE drinking. We are well suited for older couples or maybe a professional lady or solo traveling woman who wants a very safe environment, or just tame folks who behave respectably. There is nothing wild going on at our house.

Tanning Products and Acne Medications. If someone has an airbrushed tan, uses tanning cosmetics or Accutane (Isotretinoin) or similar meds, our sheets, towels, and even upholstery will be ruined. Please bring your own bed linens and towels if you use any of these products. If you’ve forgotten, we can give you some permanently discolored but clean sheets for the bed or to drape on the sofa and chairs. Ruined sheets, towels or upholstery will mean we’ll keep your damage deposit.

What a wonderful way to experience Charleston! Vaughan's home is clean, comfortable, and beautifully decorated with many personal touches. Our room was spacious with a large private bath, and the bed was beyond comfortable to return to after a busy day of walking and sight-seeing. The homemade breakfasts were delicious, and VERY hearty! They lasted us all morning and afternoon through to dinner. Our meals included homemade belgian waffles with fresh fruit and bacon, pimiento grits with crab cakes, biscuits, bacon and local cantaloupe, and cheesy scrambled eggs with spinach and onion, ham steaks, cinnamon apples, and local watermelon. Parking is provided, and the home is very conveniently located just north of the main thoroughfares. The route from Vaughan's down into the heart of the historic district is beautiful and very walkable. We didn't touch our car during our entire stay. Vaughan was a excellent hostess, and went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. Being entirely new to the city, she gave us a driving tour on our first evening, and drove us to dinner several times to save us the walk. We greatly enjoyed our time spent getting to know her and her three adorable (friendly!) Siamese cats. It truly felt as though we were staying with family!

Vaughan is friendly, helpful and makes a wonderful breakfast! She is very flexible with when you want to eat and what you want to eat - always cooked to perfection! Vaughan is very helpful in assisting her guests in getting acquainted with the area and how to get around. She has on-site parking which is a blessing in Charleston. The B & B is located not too far away from anything in town.

The house is very closed to downtown. Breakfast was served every morning. The owner was very nice and friendly. Overall, I am very satisfied with my stay.

Southern hospitality at its best. Vaughan helped us with reservations and helped make our 26 anniversary one of our greatest. The food was wonderful. It is within walking distance of the tours, shops and restaurants. Her home is beautiful and I would stay there again.

What a great place to stay! We were in Charleston for 5 days and didn't rent a car at all. We walked to just about everything (aquarium, boat dock for Ft Sumter tour, Aiken-Rhett House, restaurants and bars like 167 Raw and Prohibition, the grocery store and Starbucks, King St Market, and much more!) and took one Uber ride. It was so convenient. Vaughan was very kind and gave us recommendations and cooked delicious breakfasts for us. We would not hesitate to stay here again!

We enjoy having guests and we take wonderful care of them! We tell our visitors that we think of them as long lost cousins who have finally come to see us. It's fun to have folks who are seeing our beautiful Historic District for the first time.
