Space and peace are plentyful here. If you wish me to help plan your trip or just converse/hear about your experiences/or for tips on what to see and do.......I am interested in the things you have come for, nature, walks, gourmet food..... I work in a lot of community development projects heritage/tourism and enhancement....my working background is in literarture/theatre/film.
There is a guest sitting room or you may want to interact. I am interested in what people have to say on many subjects, arts, archetecture, travel, food, drama, visual art, eco .....Sport or fishing? - not great - I can put you in touch with good contacts.
further on the Kenmare/Kenmare Bay on The Wild Atlantic Way:
Gateway to the most spectacularly unspoiled Beara and Iveragh peninsulas. The long, narrow bay of Kenmare has woodlands on either side and mountainous uplands all around. It has a rich micro-climate creating lush growth and a variety of natural habitats. Kenmare is a sheltered haven, which makes it place apart from the wild, rugged and liberating open seas.
Kenmare town is an architecturally elegant small heritage town, nestling at the inner corner of Kenmare Bay. It is the place to chill, eat and enjoy the view. Expect fine cuisine with an emphasis on local seafoods, expect live traditional music, eclectic small shops and cafes.
Kenmare has two five star hotels and quality accommodation across the range. The town square is flanked by 19th century town houses and has a Victorian style central recreation area. There is a large, wooded wildlife park on marshy inlet south of the town.
The small and serene pier below the town looks across to Kenmare’s most iconic feature, a double arched art-deco bridge, which spans the bay. Take an eco cruise from the pier or from 4klm further along the WAW route and soak up the tranquility of the bay.
Plan a long, relaxing break. Kenmare is a place where you can just BE.
Need for a car or bike. Busses to Killarney and onward train and busses. But getting around in the two peninsulas you need to book a mini bus tour or have a car or enjoy hundred miles long cycles.
Getting to the house - Do travel the easy route N22 from cork or Killarney (your GPs tends to put you on N71 which is the national park road, best see that as a walk and sightseeing trip later) Do come by the easy route N22 and turnoff onto R569. My turnoff on the R569 is two miles before Kenmare. If you miss it you can reach it from town by driving south on N71 over Kenmare Bay bridge. Do please ask me to meet you on last stretch from Kenmare or from Sheen Falls Hotel or on road from south or North N71. I can pick up for expenses from airport etc. I have loads of parking space. Big yard, next house is hardly in view. Surrounded by nature....a bike would do....I am down a dirt laneway and it gives the impression of being very secluded.
If you want to forget the car when you are here there are a lot of walks on the doorstep...heritage park down the road Bonane Heritage Park......hills...roads with grass growing up the centre...more sheep than cars kind of thing....see the Waterfalls upriver and down....walk down to the five star hotel for a cocktail....climb the mountains on the waymarked routes....take many of the loop walks in the lower hills, visit Lorge chocolatier's roadside shop in an old Post Office for a hot chocolate...take a dip in the infinity pool at the other five star hotel....ride a horse...swing a golf club....stroll through the lovely looking wildlife park (woods, rhododendron bower and birdwatch) jutting into the bay which is in the town near the pier. Visit the serene pier + take an ECO CRUISE ON SEA SAFARI (marine savvy captain)...see the sea eagles and seals up close and personal...bring a rain hat!
My stay in Áine's house was really lovely. Áine is so kind and friendly! On my arrival she met me at a certain place with her car to guide me to her house, which was really great as I was so exhausted from the journey. She also recommended me many great places to visit in the area and told me how to get there. That way I was able to see the best of the region in the two days I stayed there. I would have loved to stay longer as my doggie and I really felt welcome in Áine's house. The room was big, bright and cozy, ensuite with a great shower. My dog was allowed to look around the house and even got some treats, which was fantastic! The breakfast was so delicious, too, with fresh fruit and tasty local products. We had two great days! Thank you so much Áine!
Aine was a fantastic host.perfect blend of chat and interest for us on our trip.she didnt crowd us and offered so much in terms of hospitality and advice for places to discover on our trip.We felt at home and cimfortable within minutes of arriving. Our room was lovely and spacious and we fell in love with the beauty of the landscape. Breakfast was simply stunning, with Aine providing gluten free fare for each morning.we will be coming back in the summer and would highly recommend this (email hidden)y gripe was its distance from kenmare, about 20mins by car, which was a bit far we felt.
Aine has a lovely home, it is really close to Kenmare which is, a lovely spot to spend a couple of days in. Her home is located near some great hiking & lovely scenery.
Her breakfasts were the most healthy that we had in all of our stays in Ireland. She makes everything from scratch, including fresh juice from fruit.
She will truly make you feel at home...
A very beautiful, peaceful place to stay. The house is architecturally fascinating and the interiors beautifully and tastefully designed and maintained. Our accommodation was spacious, very comfortable and with lovely light and views out to the rural setting. The breakfasts, specially prepared each morning by Anne were scrumptious. The location provides an excellent out of town base for exploring the surrounding country which is breathtaking in its wild beauty. Kenmare town is great (insufficient adjectives to convey how lovely this part of Ireland is!) for eating, pubs, music etc. One night we were treated to a demonstration of Irish dancing in one of the pubs. Marvellous!
We really enjoyed our stay at Aine's wonderful house. She was a great host, feeding us a healthy breakfast every morning and offering us advise on possible excursions for the day. We appreciated the rural setting and close proximity to Kenmare and the Sheen Fall Lodge where we stopped for a relaxing drink to end the day. We would highly recommend a stay at Aine's house.
Check in from time to time.....maybe we could do a house swap in the years to come.....i'll take the Californian house first please and do a book tour with a nice accompanying film of the Kenmare landscape, while you come here for 2 weeks or 2 months - leaving Dennis on the banks of the river while you climb to your hearts content. Aine.
We had a really nice time with Aine in her beautiful comfy house! Aine is a great hostess: very caring and thoughtful. She pointed out nice walks and viewpoints helping us to make the most of our time with this unpredictable weather. The breakfast was deliciously impressing: muesli, granola, fruits, fresh juice, bread, jams, yoghurt, local cheese, salmon and more!
The room was spacious, clean and bright with a very nice view on the surrounding mountains and river. We had our own bathroom just next to the bedroom.
We highly recommend her! Thanks again for your warm welcome.
What a surprise - your engagement - Congratulations! Visit Paul Kelly's shop PKJEWELLERS KENMARE, and see his range, remember I was telling you he makes what I think are really strong contemporary designs. All the best and thank you for contacts if I get to come your area. Glad the last day was good for you, the sun shone and the ground was dry enough for Clement to get down on his knees!
