This house just had its 100th anniversary, but has had tons of updates to keep it fresh. It's on a quiet street, but is an easy walk to Five Points and just 2 miles from downtown.
This bedroom has a comfy full-sized bed that rests in an alcove between closets. It has a private entrance off the front porch where you can have a morning coffee. There is plenty of room to hang clothes or to put them in the antique chest of drawers. The original hardwood floors and high ceilings will remind you that they really don't make them like this anymore. The guest bathroom takes a fresh twist to vintage styling and comes with towels, soaps and bath robes. The bathroom features a clawfoot tub that's just the place for a long soak or shower.
Also, this space is better-suited to people 18 and up. Nashville law requires that the primary renter be over 21.
Guests are welcome to use the whole house (aside from the master suite and basement). You're free to use the WiFi. There is no cable, but I do have Netflix. Make yourself a cup of coffee, or head to the end of the block for a gourmet barista parlor. Try out the deck or patio or porch. Discover the secret garden (the worst kept secret in East Nashville). You're welcome to pop some clothes in the washer/dryer.
Interaction with Guests
I will be present when guests are staying over and am glad to go with the flow of what you need. If I'm available and you want to get the lay of the land, I'm your man. Also happy to give you your space.
I've travelled all over the world and am excited to be able to host some people visiting my town. This home and East Nashville are LGBT friendly.
Within a 10 minute walk of this house are Five Points, Margot's Cafe (on the cusp of the farm-to-table movement), Barista Parlor, Pharmacy Burgers, greasy diners, dive bars, upscale dining, seriously good local coffee, 2 grocery stores, and more hipsters than a vinyl store. (One of those is 2 blocks away.) Downtown Nashville is just 2 miles down the road and Titans Stadium is even closer. Oh, and the greenways, tennis courts, and golf can be accessed 2 miles away on the river at Shelby Bottoms.
The bus stops at the end of the street (a block away). The house has street parking in front and let's face it--that's still the best way to get around Nashville. The easiest way to get here from the airport is by taxi, Lyft, or Uber (about $25)
Other Things to Note
* During December, I put up a real Christmas tree, so if you have allergies to fir, this might not be a good choice for you.
No pets (aside from the fish in the fountain)
No smoking inside (unless I burn the toast)
No drugs (except wine. And chocolate.)
No underaged drinking (that's 21 and I'm a teacher, so it's kind of a big deal.)
No additional guests please--I don't care how cute he or she (email hidden).
Let's try to keep the noise down after 11:00pm (unless we're all hanging together)
Jim's place is great! He's got a lovely home that's walkable to just about all of my favorite places in East Nashville. Jim is also super helpful in making recommendations about local hangs to fit whatever you're in the mood for. It's a perfect place to stay for a first-timer in Nashville.
We had a great time staying with Jim. He wasn't there when we checked in but he left us clear instructions and we met him later that night. He was very friendly and gave us a lot of good tips about where to go. The house was beautiful, we didn't have great weather so we weren't able to advantage of the awesome back porch/fire pit area. The house/room/bathroom were immaculate. The only slight downside was that the mattress was quite firm. Otherwise a great place, great host, and great experience. Thanks Jim!
Jim was very welcoming and a great host. He gave me some great tips on what to do in the area and was fun to talk to. The room is comfortable and the location is great too.
Jim was a wonderful host with a beautiful home! I came down to Nashville with my girlfriend for spring break (we're both teachers in DC). Upon arrival, Jim had a list of local restaurants and sites in East Nashville that were all excellent. He pointed us in the direction of an amazing place to grab a burger and a beer (the Pharmacy) as soon as we got there, which was right around the corner and perfect. He gave great recommendations for areas on Broadway, told us which spots were local and which were more touristy, and even provided us with free Uber and Lyft rides to get downtown (which is only about 5 minutes away). The house is within walking distance to many delicious restaurants and the Fat Bottom brewery.
One day we got back earlier in the day and Jim had some friends over. He immediately offered us drinks and snacks and made us feel completely welcome with his friends. Jim also sat with us on a few evenings and we discussed the differences between teaching in DC and Nashville, which was a great learning experience.
I honestly don't think we would have visited East Nashville if we stayed in any other part of the city, but after being there for 4 days, I want to move to this awesome neighborhood.
Thanks Jim! We'll be back soon!
Jim was wonderful! The house location is ideal. Jim gave us great recs for places around town! A favorite being the pharmacy burger joint and beer garden!
We had a great stay at Jim. His house is super cool, well cleaned and located perfectly both for walking and driving. Jim himself is friendly, helpful and the perfekt host!
Hey there! I'm James and it's great to see that extra bedroom get used by some people getting to know Nashville. I'm one of those who came here for college never intending to make it home, but here I am--loving every minute of it. I think you'll be surprised how much you wind up liking this big small town too!
I teach Technical Theater (set design/lighting/sound) and love to go to shows even when I'm not working. (And yes, I get as excited about a great set change as I do about a fabulous solo.) I use my set building skills around the house too, so I'm always having ideas for how to improve the place. When the weather is nice, I'm grilling on the deck as much as possible or out for a hike. I like long walks on the beach and music. (Ok, this is starting to sound like eHarmony. I'll stop.)
