Remmie made us feel incredibly welcome upon arrival and was extremely helpful throughout our entire, week-long stay with her. We did have a few issues with our initial accommodation, but Remmie responded immediately and ultimately ended up moving us into her main house.
In the main house, we didn't have hot water for showers, but the internet (which was important to us as we were there on business) was very strong. Wireless internet is basically unheard of in private residences in Kampala, so this was a major plus.
Remmie also helped out with lots of little requests (light not working, can we order in food, etc.) She was an absolute pleasure to chat with and made us feel very at home. All in all, a great hostess.
Thank you Eleanor. I value the comments in the reviews and indeed the light is fixed. I forgot to show you the switch for the water heater in the main house! so sorry that you missed the hot water. I will remember that for future guests. I appreciate and you are welcome whenever you come back to Kampala.
My stay at Remmie's was fantastic. Remmie is an excellent and considerate host, and her staff are also wonderful. The location of the house was ideal, I thought. It is a five minute walk to the main road, from where you can find everything you need. If you're planning to head to town, there are buses passing every two or three minutes. They all seem to go more or less in the same direction, too, which makes it that much easier. Also, the internet was superb.
The Listing was accurate and in a Quiet Neighborhood. I really Enjoyed my Stay here and Remmie was a Good Host. We Never Lacked anything and she was always in response to our Needs
Remmie is really a good host, well organized and communicative. Her apartment is in a great location where everything is reachable within short distance. The small terrace is a lovely feature which is really great to have. The apartment is clean and nicely furnished. Remmie really entertained us. The location is perfect.
Great area to stay in, close to city centre but quiet and safe. Staff were very nice and helpful.
Accommodation basic, with no mosquito nets or screens, bathroom in poor condition with no wash hand basin. Kitchen not ideal if you want to do much cooking as it's small with limited space for preparing or storing food. Wi fi not charged during our stay.
Really nice people there. Remmie is from Kampala, her husband from the Netherlands. They build a new guesthouse into their garden. It's divided into two separate apartments with two bedrooms, one kitchen, one storage room and a big living room each.
The WiFi situation is quite difficult in Kampala but they were doing their best to manage it and have WiFi ready.
The house was very clean and is cleaned once or twice a week by a cleaning lady. You can get your clothes cleaned for a small fee.
The bathroom is clean and the shower almost always hot.
What's probably most important about this listing is that the house is in a very secure area. It's located in a villa community (some politicians/diplomats living there as well) between Naguru and Nntinda. You have easy access to cheap public transport (2000 Shilling (around 0,7€/1US-$) for their typical bus (VW van for 14 passengers) or around (phone number hidden) Shilling for a motorbike-taxi to the city center.
There are shopping malls close and markets as well.
To the city center it takes you around 10-15 minutes (if you go on a motorbike and thus avoid traffic).
There are some great bars closeby: Our favourite was Mish Mash. Definitely worth a visit. Second is Bubbles O Learys closeby. And for clubbing: Cayenne.
Remmie and her husband can also give you a lot of tips. They have two cute dogs which scare intruders away. But we never noticed anything at all anyway. We haven't seen a single crime during our 4 week stay in Kampala.
One tip: When you get picked up from the airport, do not pay more than 100,000 Shilling. Anything above 150,000 is a rip-off and you should normally get something for 100,000, too.
