Welcome to our cozy mountaintop cabin in the woods with great views. Easy access. One hour from Harrisonburg, VA and 10 minutes from Franklin, WV.

The space
I am following Airbnb's enhanced cleaning regimen to be as safe as possible at this time. I also rent ONLY on weekends so there is a two day buffer both before and after cleaning.

Unplug and come enjoy the peace, beauty, and recreational opportunities Pendleton County, West Virginia's mountain playground, has to offer.
Our cozy cabin blends into the mountain setting and was built between 2010 and 2014, using as many local and reclaimed materials as possible. It has one bedroom plus a loft. There is a ladder to the loft space which has a single bed and a small sitting area. (We do provide a way to block access to the ladder if you want to keep little ones from going up.) The bathroom has a clawfoot tub/shower. Kitchen is fully set up for cooking with full size stove, refrigerator, a pantry, and plenty of storage space. We do not have wifi or cable. (Wifi is available at Subway in Franklin.) We do have plenty of books and games and a collection of videos. There is a window air conditioner in the main living area and in the bedroom. Cell service is spotty. AT&T users can almost always get a signal up on the ridge behind the cabin, and also can get service in Franklin, and often in the cabin. Verizon users will not get reception in Franklin area or in the cabin. We do have a landline and have provided a calling card for long distance calls in case of an emergency. We will provide the phone number if you wish to leave it with someone at home during your visit.
This space is about 550 sq. ft. excluding the loft.
There is a wood stove in the cabin that is available for use from October through April and firewood is provided. We also have convenient electric baseboard heat.

I have had to increase the cleaning fee due to enhanced cleaning procedures due to Covid-19.

If you are interested in staying for a week please contact me. It is quite possible we can work that out even though it appears the cabin is unavailable during the week.

Absolutely no pets.

Guest access
The cabin is situated on 6 quiet, wooded acres with scenic mountain views. Access is by a gentle grade on a graveled lane from a paved, state maintained road. Guests will drive past one house to reach the cabin.

Other things to note
PLEASE READ.
Due to the unique geology of Sharp Ridge, groundwater is in short supply; thus, we do not have a well. We harvest rainwater and store it in a cistern as others in this area do. We treat the water with a UV light and several filters. It has been tested for bacteria and there is none. It is safe to use for doing dishes, showering, cooking. We provide safe drinking water for your use as well, but we do ask that water be conserved. Showers should be kept short and our shower head has a shut-off valve allowing water to be shut off when shampooing hair, etc. Thank you for helping us conserve.

If snow is in the forecast it is a good idea to come equipped with food and possibly 4-wheel drive. There is a hill on the county road that must be negotiated getting to the cabin and back into town and it can be an issue in snowy conditions.

At times, this area seems to have an issue with Asian ladybugs in the fall and spring. In fall they are trying to find a place to overwinter and in spring they come out when it warms up. We do treat the exterior of the cabin in an attempt to discourage them, however, some may find their way inside at certain times. We do not want to spray chemicals inside the cabin so our ability to deal with them is somewhat limited. We do clean thoroughly before each guest, but there may be a few that find their way in after that. The best option then is to vacuum them up as they appear. We have a vacuum in the coat closet downstairs and one in the cubby in the loft. If this situation is a turnoff then ask about the likelihood of the varmints being around when you book or look somewhere else. If anyone has a solution to this problem please let us know!

This is a beautiful area with well-kept farms, beautiful forests, and mountain streams and springs. Franklin is a charming small town and it is like stepping back in time. There is a grocery store, a couple of small restaurants, and two hardware stores. The Drive-In theater is open on weekends during the warmer months. Franklin has a community pool that has very reasonable rates. Hiking, biking, fishing opportunities abound locally. Dolly Sods, Spruce Knob, Seneca Rocks are about an hour away. Monterey, Virginia is 30 minutes away and is a scenic little town. Harrisonburg, VA is an hour away. Franklin, Monterey, and Harrisonburg have nice farmers markets.
