Cozy guest room is quiet and comfortably sleeps 2 and you'll have your own bathroom. The house is on a quiet, tree-lined street just a 15 minute walk to the train to NYC (30 mins to Penn Sta). We have a large fully-equipped kitchen. Linens included.
Looking for a cozy getaway for two? Want to see a show at the Wellmont Theater? Or a great place to stay outside the city but close enough to sightsee everyday? Look no further!
Montclair is a charming old town that is a destination unto itself: visit the Montclair Museum of Art, hang out at one of our coffee shops, browse for antiques or dine at one of the over 100 restaurants in town.
We are easily accessible to Manhattan. Only a short walk to the train or bus to New York City; 30 minute drive by car. Once there, you have easy access to all the great neighborhoods that make New York City a worldwide destination. A native Brooklynite, I'm happy to make recommendations of sights to see in the city, assist with reservations, etc
Our house is on a quiet tree-lined block. The second-floor room is a haven; very quiet and light-filled. It's a perfect to retreat after a big day of sightseeing. On the first floor you'll find a large living room with a fireplace, a large dining room, powder room and kitchen - all of which is available for your use. Enjoy a glass of wine on the front porch or in front of the fire when it's chilly. Off street parking is included, as are wifi and FIOS TV. I will make coffee in the morning for you.

The listings combined can handle up to 5 people.
I look forward to welcoming you to my home!
We have a fully equipped kitchen (even an espresso machine) that you are welcome to use. You can linger after breakfast in the dining room or relax in front of the fire after dinner in the living room, as you like. Or, if you prefer, our town has many good restaurants, many of which are BYO so you can splurge on the wine without breaking the bank!
We have a TV, wifi, and the NYTimes is delivered every morning (though I have dibs on the crossword). Off-street parking is required at over night.
Interaction with Guests
I'm generally around during the day and I am happy to give advice about what to do in Montclair and the neighboring towns (museums, theatre, restaurants), sightseeing in NYC, or hiking in New Jersey and can be available to help out with transportation questions. Rides to/from Newark Airport can be negotiated.
The station for the train into the city is a pleasant 15 minute walk along tree-lined streets. The train take 30 minutes into either Hoboken or New York City and $6.25/adult, $2.75/child, $51.50/week. The airport is 20 minutes away by car.
No smoking in the house. Please be respectful of the children's school routine - you can come in late, if quietly. We have 2 cats so we cannot accommodate pets - though contained animals (hamsters, reptiles and the like) would be fine, but at your risk.
Staying with Bear and her family was an absolute pleasure. My 7 year old daughter and I were so warmly welcomed to the US, despite their busy schedules. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. The house was always lovely and warm- and is so charming! The room was great, and the bed was so comfortable! Bathroom was great. I could not fault my experience. My only wish is that I could have stayed there longer.
Really clean room and bathroom. Everything else was just as expected. No surprises at all for me. Bear and Erik are very welcoming and friendly. Staying with them for a couple of weeks felt just like home. I would definitely stay again given the chance.
Very casual but professional and friendly innkeepers. Room was clean and bright. Bathroom old-fashioned but lots of hot water and right next room to bedroom.
House close to town shopping centers for meals. One comes and goes as one likes. Friendly.
Bed very comfortable.
Bear was welcoming and attentive from the beginning. Right when we got the confirmation that we would be staying at her place, she asked whether we would need rides to her place and to the wedding that we were in town for. She made my sister and I feel at home and even bought a hair dryer when we needed one to accommodate us! The bed was super comfy, the room and bathroom were very clean, and we even got greeted by her super cute cat, kitten, and dog. Overall it was a wonderful experience.
My son and I have a great stay with Bear and her family. The experience at her house exceeded my expectations for our stay. I sincerely appreciated her time and willingness to help us be comfortable during our stay.
After staying with Bear & Family for several weeks during my relocation from VA to NJ, I can't say enough good things! The room was ample space, even as I continued to bring more items from home :-P - very large dresser for stowing items and a closet behind the door. I always had a friend in their family dog and cat, which made the stay feel even more like home. Never had a problem with water pressure or temperature in the private adjacent bathroom (I know it's silly to mention, but it can be a nuisance sometimes at other places I've stayed!) As other visitors have described, I was given a shelf in the fridge and the kitchen is very well-stocked should you need to do any cooking.
I enjoyed interacting with the family, whether it was hanging around after dinner to chat with Bear and her husband, or casual chats with the teenage children. All were super friendly, but also respectful of my privacy.
Although I only made the trek into the city once during my stay, the nearby train station (Montclair-Boonton Line) is very convenient, and the walk there is very pleasant through the surrounding neighborhood.
I think this listing is a perfect example of the type of experience that airbnb is here to offer!

I am a 40-something mother of 3 intrepid travelers. We've been to several off-the-beaten-path destinations as well as a few of the run of the mill ones. I am fan of food, wine, theatre, art, photography, hiking and camping, knitting and gardening. I love meeting new people and exploring new places. I love having the opportunity to get to know a place through the eyes and ears of the people who call it home.
I am flexible; I can be as present or absent as fits the situation. I'm an independent traveler though I always appreciate recommendations for hidden, or locals-only treasures - the best neighborhood bar, the quirky museum, the coolest music venue... I'm up for it all!
