Relax in our newly remodeled cottage in Galveston's historic Silk Stocking District, just minutes from both the beach and downtown. Take advantage of our 9 AM check-in time to get a head start on your vacation. We are one block from Rosenberg, and close to the Pleasure Pier, Garten Verein, The Strand and the cruise ship terminals.

Enjoy the parades down Rosenberg Blvd - we're just one block away, and just blocks from some of Galveston's best cafes and bars. Or just chill on our new deck!

The space
We love our little house. It shows up in city directories about 1914. As near as we can tell, it was made from a couple of two room "shotgun shacks", joined together with a hallway and roof, and moved to this lot. The bedrooms each retain their original wood burning stove bricked chimneys. The front of the house retains the original wood floors and windows. There are 10 foot ceilings and transom windows in every room. We're slowly but surely adding new stained glass throughout. You can follow our progress online at #jackjohnsonparkhouse.

The house was renovated a couple of years ago with new electrical wiring, plumbing, gas heat and central AC, and WIFI. We've refitted the rooms with retro Edison style light fixtures and period push button light switches.

We have two bedrooms, each with a full size bed featuring a 12 inch thick medium firmness gel memory foam mattress. We rotate through a variety of alt-down comforters, depending on the season. Each bedroom contains a closet with hangers, a full length mirror, and a luggage rack.

Location - If you're coming to visit the Pleasure Pier or any of the many events held at the Seawall, it's a 2 minute drive or a leisurely 12 minute stroll away. Beautiful Kempner Park is just a couple of blocks. Being one block from Rosenberg Blvd and the Galveston trolley stop makes it easy to see the island without having to worry about parking. We're also just a few blocks from the Bryan Museum - check out the Galveston Farmers Market there on Sundays and Thursdays. Walk to the Moody Mansion - it takes about 5 minutes. Bring your bike - you'll be just a few minutes from the beach, downtown, restaurants and museums.

Parking - there is a well lit spot right in front of the house, and plenty of extra parking on the street and in front of Jack Johnson Park. If you have more than one car let me know and I'll send you a parking map. Please don't park in front of our immediate neighbor's house or block the alley.

Amenities - we have a fully equipped kitchen, with a dishwasher, clothes washer and dryer. We feature free WIFI and two Roku enabled smart TVs so you can enjoy all the same streaming services you enjoy at home. We also have a Sling Blue subscription with 45 cable channels, including sports and kids channels. The back bedroom has a separate entrance and the front bedroom and living room have locking interconnecting doors so you can arrange for as much or as little privacy as you like. Our tiny fenced side yard is a perfect safe place to keep your bikes. We've just added a new large deck in the privacy fenced backyard so you can enjoy our wonderful Galveston mornings and nights in comfort and seclusion. We keep a few books around and some board games, just in case in rains. If you want to check the local weather be more you arrive, we have a weather station in the backyard - just go to the Weather Underground website and search for our station, KTXGALVE101.

We're right across from the Old Central Cultural Center and Jack Johnson Park, both of which can be rented for private functions. And just a short walk to Kempner Park and the fabulous Garten Verein which is available for weddings and other events.

We welcome all races, religions, LGBT+ and everyone else, however, since we don't stay on the property, we don't host guests under the age of 25 unless accompanied by older family members.

We're required by law to pay two hotel occupancy taxes, one to the city and one to the state. We pay the city tax (9%) for you, out of our nightly rate. The website will add the state tax (6%) to your itinerary when you book. The city tax goes to Galveston's Park and Recreation Department, and we're happy to help support our city.
