About this listing
A cozy 1920's era home on a quiet street 2 blocks from Santa Clara Ave(the main street). We are 4 short blocks from the university in the heart of downtown! Spend time exploring the city, or learn how to make homemade beer and sausage and roast coffee at our house!
Guests will have access to the whole house except for our bedroom and our bar.
Interaction with Guests
We are very social, so there's no need to tip toe around the house or worry about disturbing us! On weeknights we go to bed around 9:30. Weekends are whenever.
Convenient bus stop 2 blocks away that goes through downtown and stops at light rail and main downtown station Diridon where you can catch Caltrain to SF, 17 bus to Santa Cruz and pretty much anywhere else you might want to go in between.
We had a great time here with Cory and Lisa. We spent 6 wonderful nights where we felt like part of the family. They are two really cool people who like to chat and spend time with their guests. If you're looking for a comfortable, laid back stay with few rules but lots of interaction, this is the place for you. The room is comfy and spacious, their dining room table is the hub of the household and always open, and they infuse their home with a welcoming spirit. We would definitely stay here again!
I had a lovely time being hosted by Cory and Lisa. From their first response to the entire stay, I was welcomed. Even the doggies were friendly :) And they fed me some wonderful home cooking.
For the basic details, the description is accurate and the accommodations very comfortable and immaculate.
I wholeheartedly recommend Cory and Lisa's hospitality and home.
Cory and Lisa are a warm, wonderful couple and great hosts. Cory was at home when I arrived and showed me around; I met Lisa later the same day, and both hosts were at home in the evenings.
The room is spacious with a good-sized closet and a private bathroom, so it is certainly possible to stay in there and have complete privacy, but it has been way more fun to hang out in the dining room with the hosts, the dogs (Bandit and Wally, who must be the biggest and the friendliest Boston Terrier I have ever met), and an occasional friend or a family member who dropped by to say hi.
The house is in a quiet and safe residential neighborhood. The hosts have good recommendations for nearby places to grab a bite and some groceries. It is possible to walk downtown, I'd estimate about 20 minutes to the Fairmont, where the conference was. Buses are very frequent and it is entirely doable to get to Cory and Lisa's place using only public transportation.
Had a wonderful time at Cory and Lisa's. They are very welcoming and fantastic cooks!
We had a fantastic stay with Cory and Lisa! We got in late and Cory was up and greeted us, helped us in with our luggage and showed us around. Cory is a friendly, genuine, down to earth guy. The room and bath are just as described. We were very comfortable. We definitely felt we had privacy.
We didn't see Cory or Lisa much as we were in town for a convention and gone a lot of the time, but they were up and entertaining Friday night when we returned. We met Lisa (lovely and just as nice and sweet as Cory) and their friends and they invited us to join them. We had a great time talking and Bandit was very sweet and crawled up on my husband's lap and went to sleep.
The neighborhood is fine. Every morning when we were heading out people would be out walking their dogs or jogging and everyone always said hello. We felt safe there at night, although we weren't walking around the neighborhood much.
This was a very convenient place for us to stay. We had never stayed in a room before, we had only booked apartments/houses, so we were a little apprehensive. It turned out to be a great experience. We felt totally welcome and we would definitely highly recommend Cory and Lisa as hosts and would stay with them again if we were in San Jose.
About the Host, Cory & Lisa
Cory is a wine and spirits salesman, and Lisa is an art teacher. Our house is always well stocked with whatever you need to loosen up! In our spare time we brew beer, roast our own coffee, and make homemade sausage. If beer is your drink of choice, we have two selections on tap in the garage for you to enjoy!
We also love cooking. If whatever we decide to have for dinner suits your fancy, you are welcome to join us! Good food always tastes better with good company.
