Clinton Hill was recently voted The Most Livable Neighborhood in Brooklyn by L-Magazine!

"What an amazing home... this house has the intrigue and attention to detail of an art museum with the charm and personality of your best friend! The food is delicious, the hosts are incredibly kind and generous. Never hesitate to make this home away from home! I adore this house (and its owners)!" ~ Natalie

"A gorgeous restored Brooklyn brownstone with airy modernist updates: it was one of the most beautiful houses I've ever been in. … I've essentially been living in luxury hotels for a few years… [this] was one of the top experiences at a hotel that I've ever had.” ~ Sarah

"It was such a delight to spend the night in your incredible home. What you offer is unique, just like yourselves and your space. I still marvel at the way you combine retro and modern, high quality design with accessibility and warmth, and gracious hospitality with high end service. What you both have made at 280 Washington is very special ... Not only did I have a wonderful nights sleep and gourmet breakfast, I left much cooler than when I arrived." ~ Courtney

"This was our first experience with Airbnb as an alternative to boutique hotels, and this place beats out on such hotels not only in terms of quality, service, and price performance but with the added personal touches as well." ~ Rana

Built in 1887, this magnificent landmarked 10,000 square foot historic brownstone is one of Brooklyn's architectural gems. Located in Clinton Hill, where early industrialists built their mansions along quiet tree-lined streets, this neighborhood is the borough's most culturally and architecturally interesting and is now home to many noted writers, artists and musicians. The house has been meticulously restored and decorated with beautiful vintage modern furnishings and museum-quality art; 19th century opulence meets 21st century Brooklyn cool. Breakfast is prepared daily using seasonal local and organic ingredients. The location is perfect for exploring the rich cultural offerings of Brooklyn, which has been described as one of the hippest places on the planet. • We have stayed at Jessica and Doug's beautiful home several times, and hope to do so in the future. As always, they were very gracious and helpful. Our room was comfortable and tastefully decorated. This historic mansion is conveniently located within walking distance of several restaurants and shops and is also close to the the cultural heart of Brooklyn. We enjoyed an evening at BAM and the newly opened Theatre for a New Audience. We would highly recommend The Erhart.

  • Well, the moons must have been in the right alignment when we made our very first airbnb reservation with Jessica at 280 Washington Ave. in the beautiful, historic Clinton Hill district in Brooklyn. It went down like this: "Julia(wonderful and well travelled step daughter), where should we stay in Brooklyn when we come to visit you and see Emmy Lou Harris at BAM?" "David, sign up with airbnb." "Julia, what's airbnb(from woefully technology deprived and not hip step father)?" "David, airbnb is the best way to capture the spirit of any place you want to visit around the world. Sign up and in the meantime I will check out what's around my neighborhood through airbnb." "Ok, I will sign up." "Hey David, check out Historic Mansion at 280 Washington Ave. It looks wonderful and it's located 2 blocks from my apt. and here are some other places to check out too." "Thank you, Julia, I'm on the case." So, the truth is that I liked the Historic Mansion listing so much because of the photos but even more from the well written(and wonderfully true as it turns out) text that I immediately sent Jessica a request for a reservation. I was so excited when our reservation was accepted! A Brooklyn adventure is born! 280 Washington Ave. is not wonderful...it's Fabulous! From the moment we parked the car and gazed up at the beautiful, historic(ok, so it's a tad intimidating on first look...."Sarah, are you SURE this is the right address.....?") building we knew this was going to be a special visit. We were graciously greeted by Jessica, her husband Doug and the welcoming committee of Claus and Knuckie(very friendly dogs). The restored mansion is beautiful beyond words yet comfortable in feel. And we all know a comfortable feeling is totally due to one's hosts which, in this case, were Jessica, Doug, Claus and Knuckie. Our room was perfect with lots of natural light because of those wonderful tall windows(they don't make 'em like they used to....) and a very comfortable bed. I slept so well that I didn't know where I was upon waking and that's a rare, special feeling. Breakfast was entirely homemade, delicious and beautifully presented. Jessica should be the historical ambassador for Brooklyn. I can't wait to go back to explore and enjoy more conversations about Brooklyn with her. All I can say is, make your reservation at this most special place, it exceeded all expectations. We are already planning our next Brooklyn visit and look forward to another stay at 280 Washington Ave.

Thank you for such a wonderful review.

Indeed there is something with the moon. Will you be able to see the "blood moon"? We're a bit cloudy here this evening.

  • I've traveled the world and it really doesn't get any better than this. Inspirational surroundings and Jessica is gracious and genuine. The location is convenient - steps to the subway. The neighborhood is charming and quiet. The house is truly amazing - pictures cannot do it justice. My room was beautiful, clean, bright, and well appointed. Big fluffy towels and a soaking tub in the bathroom - perfect after a hectic day in the city! Met interesting people over a delicious breakfast. I look forward to my next visit!

  • Jessica and Doug Warren are the perfect hosts! They were so warm and welcoming and made us feel very comfortable in their home (which is absolutely beautiful!). The Swoon was perfect! We got just the right amount of sleep each night and were able to wake up in the morning ready for the day's adventures! The breakfast that was prepared for us every morning was definitely something to look forward too! Jessica and Doug were always very friendly! They suggested sites, attractions and restaurants for us that we would never have known about otherwise! Both my husband and I are eager to return to New York in the future and we definitely will be make reservations at 280 Washington!

  • I enjoyed my stay in this gorgeous brownstone and certainly recommend it to others. Was in the large, comfortable room on the top floor. Will stay nowhere else when visiting my Brooklyn daughter.

  • I spent two nights with Jessica and had a great time. She has the most beautiful house and made me feel very welcome. From recommendations for Brooklyn to a great breakfast - everything was of perfect taste. I hope to come back sometime - and as an air b'n'b newbie only wonder if there are more great places like this!

  • We had a wonderful stay in the quiet and comfortable Erhart suite. Jessica was a gracious hostess and the mansion is exquisite without feeling like a museum. Additionally, Lisa’s breakfasts were delicious.

It’s definitely at the top of our list for accommodations in NYC.

  • Couldn't have asked for anything more. Throughly fabulous! My daughter and I enjoyed the spacious, glorious, art-filled home, slept beautifully (quiet!), great bath, and enjoyed a huge, 3 course breakfast. Close to the subway (G) and superb restaurants a few blocks away. Brooklyn was totally new to us, so the hosts guided us to great walking routes to include several neighborhoods, flea markets and shops. As I was an airbnb newbie, and this was a last minute booking, it took me awhile to get all "verified", but Jessica was very patient and helpful while the system worked itself out. Really special, was hearing about the neighborhood, the arts connections and generally feeling like this visit was the start of something new and wonderful.

About
We are thrilled to welcome people into our family house (and we love to make breakfast! ). It's just the kind of place that we would want to stay if we were visiting New York! We enjoy meeting interesting, creative and passionate people from around the world and sharing our love of Brooklyn and New York City with them -- the history, food, art, architecture, and music. What we offer is a room in a beautiful house. We are relaxed and welcoming. We ask that our guests make themselves at home (and we do all we can to make them as comfortable as possible). Staying with us is like staying with friends or family (who can cook well). We do not have locks on room doors (although we do fully respect our guest's privacy). This is not a hotel or a bed and breakfast "business" (no teddy bears or pot pourri). It is sometimes elegant and sometimes casual. We like vintage furniture, street art, local food, and all kinds of music ... an urban sensibility. It's 'real life' in this house -- we have dogs who are enthusiastic greeters, teenagers who are in and out and friends who stop by. That said, we try really hard to make each guest's stay wonderfully memorable. Please read our reviews. We have had amazing guests!
