Come and stay at our wonderful "Dolphinsong" cottage on the gorgeous southeast coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. Just across from beautiful world-famous Kehena black sand beach, where the dolphins play and the humpback whales give birth in the winter months. Where the rainbows are aplenty, and the stars glitter in one of the darkest skies on the planet. This is truly a magical part of the Big Island that most people miss! The cottage has all you'll need for a wonderful, relaxing holiday. Queen-sized bed, linens, kitchen area with small fridge, double sink, dishes, pots, coffee press, perculator, toaster, blender, 2 burner stove, cooler, snorkel gear, beach towels, flat screen t.v. for watching dvd's, more than 50 dvd movies to watch, Hawaiiana books to read, and a private telephone with free calls on the island. The phone also connects to our main house, should you need our service. There is a very private, attached, hot water outdoor shower, and an indoor bathroom with toilet and sink. Washer and dryer are available. We are very attentive hosts, and our main house is on the other end of the half-acre. We're always there if you need us, but we respect your private vacation time, and you won't see us unless you need us! We can answer any questions you may have about where to go, what to see, etc... We are located just off of the historical Red Road which meanders along this breathtaking coast with it's awesome ocean views. The cottage is 20 minutes from Pahoa town, 45 from Hilo, and 55 from Volcano National Park. Just 4 miles down the road is a cafe and a small general store. On Wednesdays there is a wonderful nighttime farmer's market, with free live entertainment! When the lava is flowing, it's just a few miles from the cottage, making our place one of the best places to base yourselves for lava viewing! 2 persons maximum. No pets, please. We hope to have the opportunity to be your hosts! Mahalo! Seneca and Jeff at Dolphinsong cottage.
Super cute cottage in a very chill spot in Puna. Had a great time, location super close to incredible beaches, snorkeling, lava fields, everything you want down the bottom of the Big island! The propane stove and hot water worked great, comfy bed, everything you could want in a compact package. Table outside makes for a spacious feeling, hedge blocking the main house give you great privacy.
We loved this place.....a sweet little cabin that feels like you're outdoors. Jeff and Seneca were very welcoming and helpful. Kalapana was our favorite part of the island, and this place is situated well - nestled into a neighborhood just a few miles down the road from the night farmer's market in Kaimu, as well as the Ahalanui hot pool and Kapoho tide pools. I hope we can return and stay here again.
Staying at Dolphinsong Cottage was absolutely the best part of our trip to the Big Island. After staying part of the time elsewhere for a retreat event, we came back for a few more days. I told Jeff we were so glad to be "home" again. I felt so much peace here, sweet and magical, beautiful energy here..just what we needed. Thank you so much Jeff and Seneca for welcoming us, and sharing this perfect place in paradise. We'll be back soon, and hope to stay a little longer! December 2013
We LOVED staying at the wonderful Dolphinsong Cottage! Seneca & Jeff were/are considerate, friendly, helpful and kind. The cottage was perfect as a jumping off point for our visit to the area, and the perfect, gentle place to come back to in the evening - so peaceful and serene. We hope to be able to come back again and Dolphinsong is tops on our list for where to stay.
The first thing our host Jeff said as we walked into "Dolphin Song" was that it is funky. That is an honest description - primitive and quaint also work. If that works for you and you appreciate rustic then this place should be on your list. It is a very non-touristy accommodation.
Seneca is very sweet and both she and Jeff are very helpful hosts. The yard area is quite beautiful and the ocean is just a few hundred yards away. The Puna district is beautiful and has gorgeous coastline. The 86-92 lava flow devastation of Kalapana is a few miles up the road as are a hot springs pool, tide pools, and beautiful beaches.
It is a roughly built space, mostly screened in with few closing windows so you are mostly open to the yard. This is in the heart of the coqui frog invasion area and having mostly screens with no windows can make for VERY loud coqui song at night. Some people love their song, but we both had to plug our ears to be able to get to sleep (on the nice comfortable bed) when they were exceptionally loud after rain.
We can say that we had a good stay there and appreciated the quiet setting and great hosts.
We had a lovely time in the little sugar shack :) staying in the cottage was also an amazing outdoor-like, adventurous, experience
since you feel so close to nature with all the surrounding sounds of the local wildlife.
Above all, the hosts are such sweet people who will let you have your privacy but are always open for a little chit chat in the garden. If there's anything you need just let them know. And if you love pets, a very cute kitty cat and a little doggie also live on the property.
We had a great time! Mahalo and a big hug!
