Interaction with Guests
We are happy to assist you (as much or as little as you like) with travel information during your stay, from the best dining options to cool out-of-the-way and authentically Maine destinations.
1 block from all Maine Street shops and restaurants, 5-10 minute walk to Amtrak and all Bowdoin College attractions. We are situated in the historic Brunswick Northwest Neighborhood where you can stroll among the stately homes built in the mid to late 1800's, many with beautiful grounds and gardens. Quick access to the Androscoggin River walking/biking trail as well.
There is a public transit bus stop directly across the street. Good supermarket and Brunswick Transportation Center (with bus and train connections) are a five minute walk away. Freeport is 10 minutes south by car, Portland 20, and Brunswick is situated at the entry to the coastal route north for Bath, Wiscasset, Boothbay Harbor, Rockland and all destinations beyond.
Other Things to Note
In the summer/fall, there is an excellent farmer's market on the Brunswick Mall downtown. Off season, a popular "winter market" is held on weekends in the refurbished Cabot Mill (10 minute walk). Brunswick has two art movie houses, one in the mill and one downtown, as well as a multiplex theater 2 miles away at the Cook's Corner Mall. The very fine Bowdoin Museum of Art is open year-round and free of charge. In the summer, the Maine State Music Theatre and Bowdoin International Music Festival present first-rate popular and classical entertainment.
Absolutely no smoking, no pets. IMPORTANT: Please make every effort to plan your arrival in Brunswick between 2-8 pm. However, with adequate advance notice, we are happy to provide earlier check-in (when possible), as well as after-hours self-access.
A great apartment for our stay with everything we could need in a great location close to shops, restaurants, etc. Quiet, comfortable and private. The kitchen was stocked with high quality, organic goodies for our breakfasts - and the coffee was delicious!! Very Comfy bed, too! Martin and Henry were friendly, gracious and hospitable. It was great getting to know them a little and to wander around their delightful garden. Hope they come to visit us when they're in NYC.
Martin is a fabulous host--the apartment is adorable, the bed is super comfy (I kind of wanted to steal the pillows!), the breakfast fixins he leaves in the fridge are perfect. He even brought a lounge chair into the garden when I mentioned I might sit out there to get some work done. I loved being able to walk everywhere and had numerous delicious meals within just a few blocks of the house. I will definitely stay here again.
Martin's home is our new favorite escape in Maine! He ensured we arrived safely (train delayed so we were late), and surprised us with goods in the kitchen to snack on and drink. What's also exciting is the bakery opening soon just next door.
Hope to come back soon. I recommend coming with a bike, a beautiful way to explore Maine.
Well located in Brunswick. Apartment is well furnished, nicely decorated and with a lot of treats when we arrived.
Size is good for a family of 2 and a kid.
The hosts are charming, cheerfully and very helpful.
We had a very good time and I think it is one of the best quality/price ratio I ever had.
Staying in Martin and Henry's wonderful pied-a-terre was a total pleasure. I arrived to fresh flowers and blueberries, and Martin was extremely helpful and welcoming. The apartment is very clean, well stocked, and quiet. I couldn't have asked for more.
Staying at Henry and Marty's is the best: superlative hosts, a charming apt., glorious gardens, great neighborhood, proximity to downtown Brunswick, and easy access to Portland, the peninsulas, and the mid coast area. Henry and Marty are warm and welcoming, attentive but not intrusive; Marty is always available by text or a call. The apt. has every amenity to make your stay delightful and easy: healthy food for breakfasts and snacks; a well-equipped kitchen for preparing light meals; toiletries; a fan and AC; interesting art work, including Henry's hanging quilt; lovely sun porch; access to laundry facilities for weekly guests; and - if you're really lucky - a chance to hear Marty, a classical pianist, playing on the other side of the wall! You're missing a fabulous experience if you don't stay here!
Fantastic experience unlike the one Patricia Cronin and I just had in Venice. Marty and the house could not have been more welcoming. The fridge was stocked w mild, bagels, yogurt and the berries were already cut up. The house is beautiful and perfectly done. The clawfoot bathtub dreamy. The garden beautiful. Everything was wonderful. Marty is fantastic. My family was there in different suites and we had a ball. Would recommend to anyone for any amount of time.
