San Juanillo is a secret gem, it is a small fishing hamlet with three bays and TREE TOPS is on one of them... Beautiful White Sand Beach where you can snorkel right outside your door.Where the footprints in the sand will only be yours or a Turtle. See a Whale passing.
Marbella is located 6km north and has some excellent surfing along with a nice beach. Ostional is 6km south and is known for the Olive Ridley Turtles . There is the Ostional National Wildlife Refuge where you can literally see thousands of turtles lay their eggs during the flotilla.Time your visit correctly and you can witness this and even maybe see the baby hatchlings as well. .Nosara is located south with many restaurants, bars, surf schools, yoga schools, and shops.
There is a public bus that passes through San Juanillo twice daily from Santa Cruz and returns there as well. There is an airport in Nosara located about 13 km south with two domestic airlines You can even connect to your international flights from there. It is recommended that the best way to get around is to rent a 4x4.This is preferred since there are dirt roads here and in some areas a car would not be able to handle the roads Depending on the month. There are buses and taxis..Tamarindo is located north about a hour's drive .. which also has an airport as well.If you fly into either Nosara ,Tamarindo,Liberia or San Jose airports you can rent a car from these locations and drive here to TREE TOPS..

Our stay at Treetops was absolutely lovely. Jack and Karen could not have been better hosts. The room was clean, simple, and well appointed. The view of the ocean was gorgeous and we fell asleep to the sound of the waves every night. The beach was just a short walk down from the house. It was very beautiful. In one direction we walked to a black sand beach. The other direction is the little town beach of San Juanillo. Right off the beach by the house is beautiful snorkeling. We saw blue starfish, moray eels, and lots of fish and sea stuff. On our early morning walks we saw almost no one else on the beach.
Karen's cooking is truly special. Her breakfasts were long and luxurious and served with so much love. We ate on the deck overlooking the ocean. We also took advantage of her five course dinner one night. It was exceptional. The food was fresh, local, and expertly prepared. We watched the sun set as we drank her (very excellent) pina coladas and the stars blazed overhead while we ate dessert and drank coffee. Their very mellow dog and cat kept us company.
Jack and Karen helped us in every way they could from the rental car to road trip suggestions. They are also building some bungalows on the property that look very sweet. The land is gorgeous with lots of wildlife. Just down the street is the Buddha Bar that is a laid back hangout with good food.
It was a great trip for me and my boyfriend. Our only regret was that the time went so quickly. We would stay with Jack and Karen again in a heartbeat.
About the Host, Jack And Karen
We have traveled around the world and have chosen to live in Costa Rica for many years. San Juanillo is truly one of the best kept secrets around and we wanted to share what we have found here with people who want to enjoy this area and the true nature at the beach. Jack is a former race car champion and his wife is a former flight attendant and now a famous chef.
