Interaction with Guests
As your hosts, we live in the main house of the property and will be there to check you in upon arrival and assist you during your stay if desired. However, the studio house is very private and completely independent from the main house.
Sunset Hills is a high end suburb of Playa Potrero, with one of the best ocean views in the area. The town itself, Playa Potrero, is a very tranquil town that has experienced a balanced development, offering visitors many beautiful activities to enjoy: solitary beaches and mountain trails, kayak and paddleboarding, scuba diving and much more. The renoun Catalinas Project is only minutes away offering beach-club ammenities in a gorgeous setting! Downtown Potrero, within a 10 minute walking distance from the house, offers three small supermarkets, some typical restaurants and the famous bar Las Brisas, right on the beach.
All beaches in the area are within walking distance, as well as downtown Potrero, which is about 800 meeters from the house. There is a public bus that stops in front of the property.
From the house you can reach some of the most beautiful beaches by foot: Playa Prieta, Playa Penca and Sugar Beach, just to name a few. Many tempting walking trails are just within walking distance and during winter season there is a waterfall just around the corner... it's a magical spot!
Other Things to Note

Bathroom towels and beach towels are provided, as well as soap, shampoo and conditioner.
We ask our guests to be responsible in the use of water and AC.
Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the house.
Always keep the main gate locked.
When you leave the house turn off the AC and lock all doors and windows.
Wonderful place with an awesome view! Monica was very attentive and friendly to our needs. We had to cancel another subpar reservation elsewhere and she quickly accommodated us in her cute studio. While the listing calls it a studio, its a little misleading. This is a full separate house. Its quite large and spacious and can easily accommodate a small family of 3. Plenty of space to stretch out and enjoy the scenery. My only complaint was the signal reception of the WiFi. I had to do work a few times and the signal would fade in and out. Monica was kind enough to get me a wireless card but unfortunately Kolbi reception in the area is marginal for data. They are working on a WiFi extender but in the short run anyone absolutely needing internet should be aware. If its not deal breaker then this is a terrific spot! I highly recommend.
Our stay at the Studio House was perfect. Superb location: a 2 min walk away from Playa Prieta, a hidden, little known, beautiful beach where you can spend your days undisturbed by crowds if you don't feel like driving. If you have a car, there are dozens of spots just a short drive away: Playa Danta, Flamingo, Potrero, Minas (a must!), Grande, Ventanas.
The house itself is amazing: it's clean, it has an open layout, big windows which let in a lot of light and the views from the ocean; a fully stocked kitchen (there are even cake pans!); and a nice front porch with chairs and a hammock where you can relax at sunset with your favorite drink and music. Dreamy.
Monica is such a gracious host. She made sure to be there to greet us when we arrived, giving us directions along the way so we wouldn't get lost. There were fresh flowers on the bed and two cold beers in the fridge for us!
Thank you Monica for a wonderful stay. We'll come back for sure, we had such a wonderful time.
This spot is a short, scenic walk away from Playa Prieta--one of the nicest beaches you'll find in the area. On foot and by car, there are many other great and varied beaches to check out in the surrounding few miles. A car will also give you access to an excellent farmer's market at Mar Vista (Wednesdays, 3-6 PM) as well as local purveyors of fish and the area's amazing fruit. The house itself has a lovely front porch to enjoy an early morning coffee and the sounds of the local fauna. You can finish your day roasting a whole fish on the outdoor grill. The main area road stands between the house and the beaches but it is very low traffic and provides excellent coastal access. Finally, Monica was a responsive, friendly, and helpful host who provided us with great directions and advice and was there to meet us with a fresh flowers and cold beer. Highly recommended!
Our stay at the studio house was nothing short of amazing. The view of the ocean was majestic, as the house is open and bright thanks to the large window on the front porch. We (my fiancée and I) could walk to several private beaches surrounding the house and the small town of Potrero was a 2 min drive. Day trips to Tamarindo, Flamingo etc are easy if you have a vehicle. The house was perfectly prepped for our arrival and Monica was close by if we needed anything. A perfect place to feel as though you're at home. We will definitely return and big thx to Monica and Aloys :D
My daughter and I enjoyed a wonderful week at Monica's studio near the beach. The house is perfect for two people or a small family, with fully functioning amenities and comfortable beds. It is a short walk from one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica (complete with tidal pools) and about a half-hour walk from both the town of Potrero and Las Catalinas, an intentional community. I would be happy to return to the Studio House any time.
Location! Location! Location! Fantastic location - surrounded by gorgeous beaches and beautiful homes. Las Catalinas / The Green House is also only a 5 minute drive and is a fabulous beach club open to public to relax in hammocks, drink & dine with monkeys, surf, kayak, see amazing sunsets, bike rentals, etc. Would recommend renting a car - being so close to Las Catalinas is worth the car rental & the house has a secure parking area. Amazing photo opportunities everywhere!!
My wife and I were really happy with the apartment and with our hosts. Monica and her husband were super nice and they provided us with excellent suggestions for good spots to visit in the area like beaches to hang out all alone, to go snorkeling or to do other fun stuff. They also suggested great restaurants, places for shopping etc. They were taking great care to make sure that we had everything we needed and totally respected our privacy. We spent a lot of time in Las Catalinas beach town, which is a private investment project 5 min away by car that is open to the public (at least it was at the time we visited). You can rent all kinds of outdoor equipment there, enjoy a high-quality beach restaurant (great smoothies) and a couple of free hammocks and sun loungers. It's rather pricy, but also very tasteful. Another hotel in the area (Bahia del Sol, really close by) offers great Yoga courses twice a week or so with an ocean view. We really enjoyed those! Prieta beach is very close (5 min walk) and very nice, too. Many more wonderful beaches are only a short (15-25 min) car ride away including Conchal, Playa Grande etc. Except for Playa Grande the beaches we visited did not attract any surfers. Even if you don't want to go to beaches farther out, having a car is a must (from our perspective), because buses are only running twice a day and probably don't go to all beaches you will want to visit. The house itself has everything you need. There's very little traffic on the small street in front of the terrace (with a peak of maybe ten cars per hour or so) and almost none in the evenings, when you will likely enjoy it most. You have an amazing view of the ocean and beautiful sunsets. We, too, were welcomed with flowers and would love to come back rather sooner than later. Thanks for a great stay!

My husband Aloys and I enjoy the simple things in life, and for that Costa Rica is the ideal place: long walks, good food and good wine... it's in the simplest of things that you find joy in life!
