About this listing
Old Town has an exceptional atmosphere. The authenticity of the buildings, the rustic Mexican feel, give it that very soothing and relaxing atmosphere. The property itself is a unique compound, designed to resemble a small Mexican village.
This authenitc property dating back to the late 1800s is decorated in Spanish-Mexican style. A 5 mn walk to the Old Town plaza, it's nearly impossible to get all these modern comforts in such an old and authentic house.
It can sleep up to 10 adults comfortably. The main house sleeps 6, 1 king size bedroom, 1 queen size bedroom, and one mezzanine area which has a day bed with a trundle, that makes either 2 twin size beds or a single king size bed.
The extension has a queen size bedroom and one queen size pull out sofa.
Hot tub open year round, pool open from May 1st to October 1st, weather permitting. Facilities are part of a community so they are shared.
Interaction with Guests
Old Town is a great neighborhood. There is a high density of attractions and dining venues, within 5 minutes walk. Old Town is also very conveniently accessible from the freeway, making it an ideal location to stay for the purpose of visiting the greater Albuquerque area. The property is located on Mountain Rd which is a bicycle boulevard which gives access to the Rio Grande river embankments (Bosque) where cycle paths make for easy riding.
Public transport is available on Rio Grande Boulevard and Central Avenue. Albuquerque has a Rapid Ride bus that can easily take you downtown and to Nob Hill. So a car is not necesary.

This is a beautiful, historic home in a great location right next to Old Town. We loved the authentic feel of the place, the pool was great and the communal spaces were very peaceful. The sleeping quarters and bathrooms are divided really well to suit an extended family, with an extra mini kitchen in a sort of 'family suite' area to the rear of the house by the pool. Nice soft sheets and towels! Everything was in good working order, apart from a large door which had fallen off its hinges leading to the master bedroom, but Robert sent a workman straight away the next day to deal with this. There was one wild storm and the roof leaked in the main living area, but it sounds like from other posts that this problem will be sorted out soon. We would definitely stay here again.
We were a group of 6 adults, 6 children, and 2 dogs. The house accommodated us easily with room to spare. There is plenty of parking and the location is convenient to Old Town. We walked to the Natural History Museum and other sites easily. The Aquarium/Botanical Gardens are also within walking distance. The Freeway is nearby, so heading out to different parts of the city is easy. I met Robert on the first day, and he was super friendly. Overall, we had a good visit.
The house could use a bit of maintenance.
The Keurig coffee machine was broken, and we did not realize this until the first morning. We are a family of coffee drinkers, so this was a bummer. The house had another drip coffee machine, so it ended up being a non-issue for the rest of the trip (once we purchased coffee).
One of the bedroom doors was literally falling off its hinges, a hazard that was potentially dangerous for the children. Luckily, there was another door to that bedroom, so we kept the offending one closed for the duration of the trip.
We encountered unseasonable rain during our stay. The roof in the main living area promptly sprouted three leaks. The water damage on the ceiling was evidence that this was not the first time.
While we were there, we told Robert about each of these issues so that he would be aware of them. None required immediate attention, nor did we ask for it. But it would be nice to have them resolved for future guests.
I would stay here again for the location and the convenience. The house itself was satisfactory, but could be great with a bit more upkeep.
Indeed, we've had some pretty heavy rain lately. The roof is being attended to, it's a known issue that happens when we get rain that falls sideways :)
The Keurig is going to be removed as this is the n'th one we've had and they tend not to live up to heavy usage you get with a vacation rental.
We have just had a wonderful 4 days in Albuquerque . The house was well set out for our requirements. We loved the pool, which we made good use of in the extreme heat!
The air con was great, and loved how central it was .
After the cockroaches hid away, we had a wonderful stay and didn't see another critter till our last day. It was a fantastic place, lots of room, a pool, plenty of hot water, right by Old Town and the museums, and a kitchen with pots and silverware. The Explora museum is the best for kids! We were grateful to have such a large place accommodate us all and for such a great price. Thanks Robert!
We met Robert twice, he was nice. The instructions were complete and we were fairly familiar with Albuquerque so we did not have any questions or concerns. The neighborhood seemed transitional but we did not know the area after exploring Mountian Road more we discovered nice neighborhoods and bike trails and a park. Old Town was literally across the street a very short walk. The house was perfect for our family with three separate sleeping and living areas, the kitchen was complete and we ended up entertaining at the house rather than going to a family's member's home. The only things that I might mention, we never found the hot tub, and minor suggestion the knives in the kitten were in sad shape, Also we could have used a scoring pad and a broom in order to clean up properly. Again minor things. Everything was nice and perfect for us.
Nous avons été très bien reçus par Robert.
La maison est vraiment très grande et très agréable.
Je la recommande vivement.
Robert's listing page was not accurate. He stated in the description that the pool was "open" from April to October, then contradicted that in his house manual. So if anyone else is unclear as I was, be advised the pool is a green mess, located at the back entrance to #1. He changed the description after accepting my booking to state " pool open May 1st weather permitting, but when I left on 4-30-15 there was no way it could be ready the next day. This is a nice property, but if you are interested in a pool, forget it. I sent a video of the "green pond" to Airbnb, after Robert refused to address the situation with me, and surprise, surprise, they would not help me. There is a nice day spa in Los Lunas that has a heated pool, hot tubs etc. They charge $20 for the day
Danie was an unreasonable character, first wanting a discount because he didn't intend to use the whole house as booked, then because the pool wasn't open, which is weather dependent. We open in May, but sometimes in April if the weather is good, which it wasn't. Daniel got an extremely good rate for a last minute booking, and any additional discounts that he sought after the fact, were unjustified and a testimony to his character.
