What a great example of falling in love with the possibility of a property...and doing so again in person once you arrive in person.
My business partner (an architect) and I were in town for business for a single night with very little time to just 'relax' / 'explore', but M.C.'s property captivated us from the first time we ran across it. We opted to drive 45 minutes out of our way (in ATL traffic) to stay at M.C.'s home...and are thrilled we did.
So many ways to describe the property, but what comes to mind first / foremost is that it is compelling and captivating for those who are seeking something truly modernist with layers of the unexpected once they arrive. The home never sells itself as being 'cozy' (the way many homes try to focus) - this is something entirely different. Yet, it still manages to be refreshing and relaxing in a myriad of ways.
Despite its location, you really feel as if tucked away in the woods. And despite its endless glass walls, you really feel as if you are in a very private setting.
And while we use the property just for a very quick one-night rest, we'd love to consider it for hosting an event, too. Be an ideal location for a creative work event or make-an-impact dinner party.
Finally, M.C. was a terrific host, staying in touch with us several days in advance all the way thru our visit. Appreciate her willingness to open up this striking property...and to make it feel like home for those coming in from afar.
The house is friggin' awesome. It iss beautiful, inspiring, and made more so by the fact that M.C. and Carlos designed and built the house themselves. Probably not ideal for a family retreat as the furnishing is pretty spartan, but we loved the place. The house is a work of art, and should be regarded as such. Definitely would rent again for my next trip to Atlanta.
In order to be informative, I must say that the pictures posted led me to believe the home was well maintained offering a modern, clean space. This however was not the case. All the windows and ledges were dirty and I think I slept on a box spring instead of a mattress. There was a couple of pieces of old furniture and a camping stove. Our babysitter didn't have a television or computer to enjoy while we were out and there was no iPod dock or any amenities whatsoever.
Mary Claire was a good host she was very flexible when it came to checking in as well as out. The glass treehouse is very unique and was a different experience. It just wasn't what we expected in relation to the amount she charged considering the lack of amenities and the overall maintenance of the house.
Jeff was the ONLY guest in 18 months who did not love my place, so I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. He calls an elegant glass 3 burner cooktop a "camping stove" and calls the coolest custom sleigh bed with a brand new IKEA mattress a "boxspring". My furniture is the same as is pictured-mostly vintage mid century pieces -not junk! My ad states there is no TV but he complained about that too. I regret hosting him as he has tarnished my otherwise impeccable record. Please read all my other great reviews and ignore this one.
We had a really great stay here and Mary Clare was attentive and very nice. It was a beautiful and fun house in a great location. . . we had a wonderful trip to Atlanta and it was a nice bonus to come home to a really cool and interesting house each night.
This house is simply awesome! A truly unique space to spend a few nights in ATL! The host was very accommodating and made it feel like it was my own space.
The house was impeccable, it really is a work of art. During the day the house makes you feel as if you're one with nature and is just as amazing at night. Mary Clare is such a marvelous tenet you'd be lucky to rent from her.
