Within 2.5 hours of Dublin and 40 minutes from Galway City, Suaimhneas is perfectly located to explore the beauty and history of the Burren and the Co. Clare, Co. Galway area. Although there is public transport links from Galway and Dublin we would highly recommend using a car to get the most out of your break in the Burren.
Anout the Area:
The Burren covers 1% of the land surface of Ireland and is approximately 250 square kilometres in size. Most of the Burren is designated a Special Area of Conservation to protect this extremely unusual habitat. The Park land was bought by the Government for nature conservation and public access. It contains examples of all the major habitats within the Burren: Limestone Pavement, Calcareous grassland, Hazel scrub, Ash/hazel woodland, Turloughs, Lakes, Petrifying springs, cliffs and Fen.
Some of the other features of the area are The Cliffs of Moher are one of Ireland's top Visitor attractions and are a designated UNESCO Geo Park. The Cliffs are 214m high at the highest point and range for 8 kilometres over the Atlantic Ocean on the western seaboard of County Clare.

The area around Suaimhneas is excellent for hiking in the hills of the Burren and horse riding. Also located a 45 minute drive away is the one of Ireland's best known surfing locations Lahinch Beach and the much quieter and less well known Fanore Beach.
Enid was so fun to meet and I loved staying at her airbnb. She was a wonderful host and the place was beautiful! I wished I could have stayed there for another couple of days it was so great. Location is super nice because it's close to Galway and the cliffs of Moher - lots to do close by!
Enid is fantastic! We felt at home immediately and could have chatted all night. Enid went "above and beyond" with fresh baked scones and banana bread! Delicious! Room is beautiful and everything is spotlessly clean. We really enjoyed our visit and will be back again. Thanks once again for everything Enid!!
I was a bit unsure about this booking as a) it was my first air bnb booking and b) it was effectively somebody else's house. But everything worked out fine. Enid is a great host and her house is absolutely spotless. You really are made to feel that the place is your own home and you come and go as you like, there is no pressure about meal times or anything like that. If I was in the area again and needed a place to stay, I would stay there again.
Staying with Enid was a delight in many ways! Located at the border of the beautiful National Park The Burren, Enid has a big house with spacious rooms that are very clean and well furnished. The overall feel of the house is warm and inviting! Enid is a very warm and bubbly person, easygoing and a very (!) good cook :-) We were welcomed with freshly baked scones in the evening and spoiled with sumptuous breakfasts! We had booked one room for two but since we both had a terrible cold (and were friends, not a couple) Enid gave us two separate rooms for the same price of one, which I thought was very generous!
Enid provided us with a lot of useful information and maps and we had three lovely days in The Burren, packed full of adventures :-)
I had the delight to accompany Enid on one of her early morning walks with her lovely dog at 7am which was wonderful!
Thank you again, Enid! I (we) will definitely stay with you again and recommend you to friends!
Enid was a delightful host, warm, helpful and full of excellent recommendations for local travel, walking and sightseeing.
Enid was by far the friendliness host we had! She is very warm, helpful, and intelligent! We were able to learn a lot about the Burren and how it formed from her. The house is gorgeous and it was the perfect spot to explore the area, which is complete with monastic ruins and neolithic tombs (so many!). She also makes a great breakfast, either healthy or an irish breakfast. We full-heartedly recommend staying with Enid if you want an amazing host in an amazing location!
Enid was the most gracious, fun and helpful hostess. She was so good to us after we had flown all night from the States and then immediately got in a car and drove. She has a wonderful and warm personality. Her home is stunning with all the comfort of home. We found it to be perfect for our needs. She will give you excellent advice on places to visit as well as Irish history. My Mom also got a massage from Enid and said it was the best massage she has ever had! If you are looking for a real treat, visit Suaimhneas!
Enid has a gorgeous place and an even more gorgeous personality. We were sad to leave, but will definitely be back one day. Wonderful!
Suaimhneas is the perfect getaway in the west of Ireland. We absolutley loved our time here, although two nights just wasn't enough! Enid is a fantastic host, we felt really welcomed into her home, it felt like we had known her for ages and were just going round to visit. The house is stunning, as is her hospitality. We had a choice of breakfasts...healthy or not so healthy and she lent us all of her maps to help us get around. If you have a car, it is a great spot to explore the Burren National park, and also the west coast. We particularly loved driving one of the best coastal roads from Kinvarra to the Cliffs of Moher on a fantastic cunny day! It really is a home away from home and I would thoroughly reccommend!
Absolutely enjoyed our stay at Suaimhneas. Well worth visiting for those who need some time to chill out from the hustle and bustle of city life in the countryside.
My friend and I spent the weekend in Dec (so cooler weather) after a few crazy weeks of Christmas parties. We drove from Dublin (about 2.5 hours) and were warmly greeted by Enid into her lovely country home. She spoilt us with amazing meals and a lovely open fire. Enid is incredibly hospitable, with a range of talents in English teaching, aromatherapy etc. As well as a thorough knowledge of the local area if you want to do walks. She gave us an aromathearpy massage on the Saturday which was fabulous and relaxing. Give her a call earlier to organise.
On the Saturday she gave us a few tips on where to have a look around in the area - being winter we chose to do the drive around the western coast and head to the Cliffs of Mohar. A beautiful drive with incredibly landscape to admire. I would recommend having a car when travelling this region, so you can get around easily.
