Within 2.5 hours of Dublin and 40 minutes from Galway City, Suaimhneas is perfectly located to explore the beauty and history of the Burren and the Co. Clare, Co. Galway area. Although there is public transport links from Galway and Dublin we would highly recommend using a car to get the most out of your break in the Burren.
Anout the Area:
The Burren covers 1% of the land surface of Ireland and is approximately 250 square kilometres in size. Most of the Burren is designated a Special Area of Conservation to protect this extremely unusual habitat. The Burren National Park is located in the south-eastern corner of the Burren and is approximately 1500 hectares in size. The Park land was bought by the Government for nature conservation and public access. It contains examples of all the major habitats within the Burren: Limestone Pavement, Calcareous grassland, Hazel scrub, Ash/hazel woodland, Turloughs, Lakes, Petrifying springs, cliffs and Fen.
Some of the other features of the area are The Cliffs of Moher are one of Ireland's top Visitor attractions and are a designated UNESCO Geo Park. The Cliffs are 214m high at the highest point and range for 8 kilometres over the Atlantic Ocean on the western seaboard of County Clare.
The three Aran Islands, Inis Mór Island (Big Island), Inis Meáin Island (Middle island) and Inis Oírr Island (East island) are situated in a north westerly, south easterly direction at the mouth of Galway Bay, Ireland. They are famous for their geological formation, historical monuments and their linguistic and cultural heritage. The Irish(Gaelic) language is still spoken here and in the twenty first century all native born islanders are bilingual in both Irish and English.
The area around Suaimhneas is excellent for hiking in the hills of the Burren and horse riding. Also located a 45 minute drive away is the one of Ireland's best known surfing locations Lahinch Beach and the much quieter and less well known Fanore Beach.
Enid is a terrific host. She is warm, cheerful, positive, energetic, generous and has great personality. Besides, she is a creative great cook! She offered to share dinner on the first cold evening of my arrival, left me a fire in the fireplace and always reminded me to feel like home and conjured up delicious new breakfast every morning. The house itself is very spacious and tastefully decorated. There is a separate guest bathroom which is more than a guest can ask for. The room is spacious and comfortable. The bed is good. The region is quiet, beautiful rural region. 5 minutes from Gort City. (There is a good launderette in Gort) 40 minutes to Galway. I would say I definitely love to stay here more than in bustling Galway. The Burren is absolutely breathtaking beautiful. Enid's suggestion to drive the Western coastal route was the best. She is full of information, suggestions and recommendations. It is best advised to visit the area in at least 7 days. Unfortunately, I only stayed for 3 nights and it was simply not enough.
We were greeted with a warm fire, wine, a sweet dog, and warm conversation. Enid is the best and will make you feel right at home. We wish we could have stayed longer.
Not only did Enid provide a wonderful home for me stay, she joined me for dinner the night of my stay! What a wonderful lady!
Highly, highly recommend staying with Enid (and Ben). Beautiful, comfortable house, and Enid is lovely and sent us off to explore with adventure maps and homemade banana bread :) We hope to return someday!
This is a very comfortable room in a large house, with full access to the bathroom, kitchen and living areas. Enid is a delightful and generous host, who provided a terrific breakfast and helpful advice. It is in a lovely, quiet area outside a village. My only warning is to ensure that you have full instructions as to which house it is before you arrive in town.
Our stay with Enid was absolutely wonderful! She was so kind and helpful, and her home was truly lovely. Breakfast was excellent as well. It was a very comfortable experience, and we would definitely stay there again.
I had an unbelievable stay with Enid at your beautiful home outside of Gort. The room was perfect with a huge bed, storage, and a view into the country side behind. The house was only a few minutes outside Gort which was filled with shops, pubs, and dining. The home was amazing, but that is not what sets her home apart from others, its Enid. She made my trip to Ireland special. She organized and laid out my days in Galway County. She set me up with highlighted maps, secret spots, and even helped my plan my Southern Ireland journey. Enid is a warm and caring person and if you are lucky to get to travel to Galway Co. you must try to stay with Enid at her country home.
We stayed at Enid's after a day visiting the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher. Enid is a lovely woman with a beautiful home. The three of us (my fiance, brother, and myself) all loved her. Breakfast was wonderful and healthy too! The location was ideal for a quick trip to Shannon Airport if one or more of your party is flying in/out.
Enid was a really warm hostess. She provide excellent directions and great recommendations. She was extremely knowledgeable about the area and Ireland in General. She gave fantastic regional suggestions and another for while we were in Dublin later in our trip. The house and bed were among the best on our multi-country trip including 6 Airbnb accommodations. We would definitely stay with Enid again.
Staying with Enid was the best welcome one could have to Ireland. She was the most gracious and welcoming host and ambassador to Ireland that one could ever expect. Her warm smile and endearing manner helped us know our time in Ireland would be the best. Her wonderful dog, Ben greeted us with a waggle in his tail. After we saw our glorious room, she offered us tea and fresh scones..so yummy. We took a short nap to shake off our jet lag then went to an historic park to stretch our legs. Upon return we each had the best massage I have ever had in my whole life. I felt grounded and relaxed. Then she recommended a five star restaurant for dinner, The Gallary. The next day we headed off on our own adventures after a healthy breakfast. She gave us directions, a map, and a hug goodbye! Enid gave us many suggestedsites to see and experience, which took us far beyond the normal tourist experience. Enid joined us that evening to go hear local music in nearby pubs. Another day of adventures and we arrived back to her home with another warm welcome of tea and crumble. Every minute with Enid was special...we laughed, we had great discussions solving world problems and more! What a special five star host she is. BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!
