Located at the foot of Lugnaquilla mountain this is a perfect way of discovering the real Ireland. The Sunday Business Post said ‘A beautiful, traditional Irish cottage tucked away in a forested valley in the Wicklow Mountains, the 19th century Aughavannagh Cottage is lovingly restored with all mod cons. Located at the mid-way point of the Wicklow Way, it is an ideal base to explore nearby glens, old military roads, pilgrim trails and remote mountain routes - Glendalough and Brittas Bay beach are only half an hour away’. Aughavannagh Cottage is set in a dramatic mountain landscape with fabulous views. Many pretty villages (including 'Ballykissangel' of TV fame) complete with welcoming pubs and restaurants are nearby including Aughrim - our favourite. Woods and streams, deep glens and high mountains provide the perfect backdrop in which to discover the real Ireland.
The beautiful valley of Glendalough is 20 minutes away and the lovely blue flag beach at Brittas Bay is half an hour down the valley. The cottage is situated in a peaceful wooded glen at the foot of Luqnaquilla, Wicklow's highest mountain, which rises to over 3,000 feet.

We felt very welcome at Davids Cottage and we even got a bottle of really great wine! The lane to the house is a little bit hidden at first but thanks to Davids directions we found it very easily. Ireland is a great country and all people are very warm and welcoming, including David of course who also gave us lots of tips in advance what to do in the area. We definitely and highly recommand everything. Thanks a lot!
Thank you Sandra. I am so glad that you enjoyed your visit to Ireland and that you all had a great and welcoming time at Aughavannagh Cottage. It is the real Ireland - full of beautiful unspoiled scenery and still authentic - I hope we might welcome you to the Wicklow Mountains and Aughavannagh again some day !
We enjoyed a lovely quiet weekend in this beautiful cottage set in remote rural countryside in Wicklow. David was an excellent host. Good communication and there to meet us on arrival. Will be back.
David's cottage was as charming as described in AirBnB and David was a gracious host who genuinely seemed interested to ensure our stay was a good one.
We were visiting Dublin for a conference and wanted a quiet weekend in the beautiful, scenic Wicklow Hills. We were absolutely amazed and delighted to find this lovingly restored, rustic cottage right in the heart of the most gorgeous walking countryside, off the Old Military Road, not far from Laragh and Glandalough. Reached by a long driveway off a very quiet road, there are no neighbors to be seen from the house and you feel as if you are in the middle of nowhere (there are actually some houses quite nearby but all out of site and earshot). Bursting with character, from the range to the fireplace, yet comfortable with all modern "essentials". We were very warm, had loads of hot water and comfortable beds. The place easily accommodates a family of 7 with two large separate seating areas - both a large and well equipped kitchen with seating for 8 around the long farmhouse-style kitchen table and also a separate sitting room with fireplace (and TV if you must). Good WiFi (also if you must). We fell in love with the place as soon as we saw it and will bring our large family (+5 kids) back here as soon as we are able. Dave was a fabulous host, gave us perfect and detailed directions and even arranged sunshine when Dublin was raining. Also it was really excellent value - hope it still will be when we return.
We spent two nights and it was really awesome.
The cottage is very well located, less than two hours from Dublin and in a very beautiful area in the wicklow mountains. Many great spots for hiking are located near the house.
The cottage is really cosy, with a beautiful kitchen, big living room where you can read or watch DVDs next to the fire place. The rooms are also very comfortable.
The host was very welcoming, giving a lot of advice if you want to visit the area.
I really advice you to go there if you want to enjoy the countryside or just get some rest after some tiring nights in Dublin .

About the Host, David
I love both the Wicklow Mountains and Languedoc. I know the mountains like the back of my hand. Having restored Aughavannagh Cottage I have a real passion for Wicklow and its landscape. I'm always delighted to share with guests all the tips we have for getting the best out of Wicklow and indeed the whole of Ireland. Being a Dubliner born and bred (I used to work for Guinness!) I also know the city - which is only an hour away from the cottage. So whether you want an activity holiday walking and hiking the hills, want to laze about and hunt down the best Guinness or combine a country and city vacation I am happy to help make yours a memorable trip.
If you are looking at visiting France - I'd also be delighted to help you plan a visit to the Corbieres in gorgeous Languedoc - hiking, walking, wine tasting or just lazing around - I'm quite good at all of those things - especially the last one!
