Eleni and Rob's home is a colorful, creative space and was the perfect house to serve as our "home base" while we were in town to get married. Since they were traveling during our stay, we did not get to meet them, but Eleni and Rob seem like wonderful hosts. They were thorough in their instructions and we had no problems getting in or making ourselves at home. Although, we did have to be mindful of their request not to cook meat (we are meat eaters and cookers), it felt like we were staying at a friend's house. Thank you Eleni and Rob for helping make our wedding weekend so special!
"Utterly Charming"! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Eleni and Rob' s house. It is spacious and comfortable; we had everything we needed to make our stay a pleasant one. The hosts are gracious and answered all of our questions quickly. We were arriving late and a light was left on for us : ) The neighborhood is close to downtown which was very convenient. It is a diverse neighborhood with craftsman style houses many of which have been renovated. We sat on the front porch both mornings drinking coffee and never felt uncomfortable in any way. I would definitely stay here again when visiting the Durham area!!
Our stay in Durham was lovely and relaxed thanks to Eleni and Rob. They contacted us in advance to insure we had all details needed to check-in and manage the house (they were actually traveling abroad during our trip), and were highly accessible for any issues (which we had none). The home was clean, spacious and comfortable. The front porch was a sunny place for the family to gather during "down times" of the trip. Everything in the kitchen and bath worked as expected, and all the items needed for cooking simple meals were present. We appreciated the extra items left in the fridge, especially the single-serving Almond Milk! Overall, I highly recommend this property to any who find themselves in the Durham NC area. Though we did not get an opportunity to meet Eleni and Rob, they were in regular contact and extremely warm and helpful. As an aside, the art collection in the house adds a fun bonus to the visit, as the various local artists have different styles that are very fun to examine and compare.
Eleni was extremely easy to work with! Her communication was prompt and thorough and the listing was exactly as described. We enjoyed our stay in this convenient location.
We loved our stay at Eleni and Rob's funky and cozy home. Eleni was super responsive to any questions we had but gave us plenty of privacy. The front porch was a great place to enjoy the lovely April weather and the kitchen table and benches were perfect for my husband, in-laws, daughter and I to have a family dinner. The apartment was clean and comfortable and we loved looking at all the different artwork around the house!
Our stay at Eleni and Rob's home was exactly as described. The floors and doors are beautiful and the windows actually open! The kitchen has so many neat touches from the handmade countertops to the kitchen table and benches with storage and games underneath. We enjoyed the front porch swing and the short walk to the new neighborhood park. The kids stayed in the office on the fold out couch and my sister and I each enjoyed our own room with neat antique furniture. There is information on the house for each room which made our stay easy and user friendly. Thanks so much!
About the Host, Eleni And Rob
Hello! I (Eleni) grew up in Seattle, Washington ... summers were spent in Greece with family, where we still travel when able.
My husband and I moved to Durham, NC in 2005 and felt immediately at home within the warm and hospitable community of artists, musicians, and porches. We hope others enjoy the town's offerings and people as much as we have.
I am a musician, documentarian, writer of words, and community organizer, including a local version of Meatless Monday, "Triangle Meatless Monday." (We encourage restaurants, schools, and hospitals to include plant-based options among their offerings, and run fun local chef contests.)
I also helped organize the neighborhood in which we live, Cleveland-Holloway, back in 2007, earning the title "Neighborhood Hero" (but it was a community effort and I played a small part alongside other neighbors).
Every year, I open my home to a "Thanksgiving record party" and the Indy, our local alternative weekly, wrote about this here in 2010: (website hidden)
I enjoy philosophy, helping others, drumming, biking on our tandem bicycle, listening to big talk, traveling, and baking vegan cupcakes. Always happy to share information about adventures to be found in or near this town.
Rob grew up in Connecticut, and moved to Seattle in his 20s - he is a student of Aikido and will give you an "Aikido back stretch" upon request. Maybe. He's also a guitar builder, musician, and carpenter who completed most of the historic renovations on our historic home.
