Interaction with Guests
Gloria will be there to receive and assist you with advice regarding the exploration of the territory and its many historical and artistic points of interest. She will also supply a list of tipycal, not-touristy restaurants, wineries and oil mills, and can organize, on request, guided eno-gastronomicals tours as well as guided visits to archaelogical or artistic sites.
Todi, a renowned tourist attraction, is two miles away from the house; it is a charming town with a rich cultural life and is exciting to explore, especially during the early evening and at night.
In Todi you can find a cinema (open air during summer) and a very famous 19° century theatre with good shows, menu restaurants and wineries.
Torre Bertona itself, our hamlet, is also part of the Tiber Natural Park and of "Circuiti del Paesaggio" / "Landscape Circuits" of Todi and a starting point for easy walks and horse trekking. From Pian di San Martino (1/2 mile away) also starts a cycling circuit called "Tevere ring" : the river Tevere (Tiber) is indeed very close to it, and a nice trip is the one to the river canyons (follow the road towards Orvieto and Corbara lake).
In July in Todi there is a famous art and music festival, but also during August there are several concerts and events. During summer, also innumerable "SAGRE" (local celebrations) in the nearby villages and towns take place. Some of the events are really worth seeing. Normally during these celebrations it's possible to eat very good food at convenient prices , because the local housewives cook and obviously it's a wild competition among them.
At the end of July there is also a "Sagra" in Pian di San Martino: food and dancing every night, but they allow you to sleep at a convenient time.
For food shopping, there is a commercial centre in Ponterio, 1 mile from home, where there are also many excellent shops of typical Umbrian products.
Todi is considered to be one of the best cities in the world for the quality of life; its location is one of the best in Italy in order to visit the principal beauties of central Italy and the landscape and culture are not touristy but genuinely Italian.
Perugia (Umbria's main city), Assisi and Orvieto are all reachable in 30 minutes; Rome and Florence are at 1 hour and 1/2 drive.
Don't miss to visit Assisi, Orvieto and Perugia, with the splendid Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria; but worth a visit is also the Todi museum and the roman cistern below the square, besides a gorgeous fresco in a nunnery called "Purgatorio di San Patrizio".
Also Bevagna and Foligno are absolutely worth seeing.
If you feel like going to a famous Spa resort, you will reach San Casciano Terme in Tuscany (1 and 1/2 hour drive), or enjoy a day Spa nearby Todi.

The whole experience from start to finish was better than I ever imagined! We were met by a colleague of Gloria after not even losing our way once with Gloria's excellent directions and were blown away by our welcome. A lovely local bottle of wine and biscuits was waiting for us and we had a quick tour of the beautiful apartment and jacuzzi area before diving straight into the pool! We later met Gloria after her return from a trip as she was labelling plant names in the garden (loved this) and she was so kind! Couldn't have hoped for a better trip! Thank you Gloria!
What a stunning awesome place to stay. So beautiful and peacefully. It was beyond our expectations.
Gloria was amazing and very helpfully showing us how to get to Todi and the supermarket. Our airline lost our bags and Gloria kindly took this over as a contact person as we spoke no Italian even before we even met us. The locals were also so friendly and helpful. What a wonderful place to start a holiday. I highly recommend staying here. The history of the place and her well kept garden was beautiful. I loved every moment of my time there and wished we could have stayed there for longer. Thank you Gloria.
This place near Todi has given us to days of full summer in October and this sounds like a miracle. The color of the swimming pool is rarely beautiful. The house is perfect for a couple or for a Small family.
Such a wonderful place!
It wasn't my first time in Umbria, i knew it was going to be nice but i simply couldn't expect so much, this place went far beyond my expectations. The atmosphere was incredibly peaceful and relaxing. The house is really beautiful, clean and very confortable, and it's fully furnished. The Swimming pool is new, and the water was very clean. It's just a perfect place to relax and a strategic base to start from a visit to all the cities nearby. Our host was very nice, she welcomed us with a very good bottle of wine and, by the time we had to check out, she even told us not to rush away but to feel free to take our time, since she didn't have any other booking for that day. She also allowed us to use the jacuzzi, even though it is not generally used during the summer. Not to mention the landscape this house is built in. Simply breathtaking. I really liked the flowers and the garden as well. I would definitely recommend this place. I really felt like home, or better...i wish my home was as beautiful as this one. Honestly. 10/10!
Gloria, our host was a lovely lady who spoke excellent English. She welcomed us in person and gave us a tour of the unique features of the tower including its dungeon and chapel which added to the charm of the place hugely.
She had also thoughtfully provided some provisions and a bottle of wine, which we appreciated!
The pool and surrounding views were stunning.
We adored the way she had decorated the bedroom which it turned out was a reconstruction of the original décor (uncovered during the restoration process).
The apartment was fantastic value for a family of 4 although the main room which contained a sofa bed, table and chairs and kitchenette was rather a squeeze!
The bathroom had been done to a very high standard and we enjoyed the patio just outside our front door for meals and views over the amazing countryside.
Todi, an amazing walled city is a short drive away where one can purchase beautiful food and gifts.
The kitchen is tiny which meant cooking and washing up was a bit of a chore but again, for value for money in high season, we feel we got a fantastic bargain. If you are looking for peace and quiet in a beautiful location then I can't recommend Gloria's place highly enough!

About the Host, Gloria
Hi, I'm Gloria. I'm fond of historical buildings and of herbalism. I've restored a 16° century country house perced on the hill in front of Todi, trying to preserve its "look and feel" and set up three elegant self catering apartments and a garden rich in medicinal and aromatic plants, surrounding a panoramic swimming pool. I hope to welcome you there soon!
