  • Kilauea Bakery & Pau Hana Pizza

What a great place to get coffee and a morning pastry after a run to the Kilauea Lighthouse! Okay, I dont run anymore, but this is my daughters ritual when she is here. Great baked goods!
    Keneke Street Kilauea HI 96754
  • Lighthouse Bistro

Excellent food, artistically served. For Kauai, this restaurant is a good value. Open air setting. Often live music, by Pancho Graham. My neighbor, Sandy Margler, might even perform a hula.
    Keneke Street Kilauea HI 96754
  • Banana Patch Studio

Great shopping here! My very favorite. I bought one of Joanna Carolans koi paintings (a giclee, actually) for my office on the mainland, and my patients love it.
    Keneke Street Kilauea HI 96754
  • Kong Lung Trading

Awfully fun to browse. VERY HIGH END shopping. Like Gumps in San Francisco, only island style. Look for the owners adorable Jack Russell terriers, Olive and Mochi. And, there is a shop cat, too
Keneke Street Kilauea, Kauai HI 96754-5303
  • Kilauea Fish Market

Not keen on fish myself, but my guests rave about this place.
    Kilauea Road # F Kilauea HI 96754
  • Kalihiwai Beach

Our favorite family beach! 2.8 miles from the house. So easy to have a sunset BBQ here. Park under the ironwood trees, and walk a few feet to the water. Porta-potties. Great for boogie boarding.
    Kalihiwai Road Kalihiwai HI 96754
  • Rock Quarry Beach

A hidden treasure, mostly frequented only by locals. Access is by going down a dirt road off Wailapa Road. Good for boogie boarding, surfing.
    Kalihiwai HI 96754
  • Kilauea Lighthouse

They have done a beautiful job with this place. They charge admission to the site, but have generous senior discounting, lifetime passes, etc. Educational. Scenic.
  • Anini Beach

Regular bathrooms, BBQs, picnic tables. Boat launch. Good snorkeling. Abundant sea turtles.
    Anini Road Kalihiwai HI 96754
  • Tahiti Nui Restaurant

When my brother wanted to do a pub crawl one evening, we went to Lighthouse Bistro, The Tavern in Princeville and Tahiti Nui in Hanalei. Tahiti Nui won hands down. Local flavor. Here for years!
    Kuhio Highway Hanalei HI 96754
  • Kalypso Restaurant

Great funky island bar and restaurant. The worlds best fish and chips here. They make them with ono, and serve them with waffle fries and a special sauce. LOVE THEM!
    Kuhio Hwy Hanalei Hawaii 96714
  • Hanalei

Fun town: shopping, restaurants, beach. The Descendants was filmed here on the beach and at Tahiti Nui.
    Hanalei HI
  • The St. Regis Princeville Resort

If you are a Rotarian, make up here! They meet Thursdays at noon. There cannot be a more beautiful meeting venue in the whole world. Have a look around this hotel. Its gorgeous.
Ka Haku Road Princeville HI 96722
  • Duane's Ono-Char Burger

Really good burgers. It has been here for years. More local character than Bubbas (Kapaa and Hanalei). Bubbas is okay, too.
    Kuhio Highway Anahola HI 96703-9997
  • Lumahai Beach

In 1958, Mitzi Gaynor sang, Im Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair here. Stunning beach. Uncrowded. Very short walk down a trail to get there. Have spent many hours at this gorgeous beach.
    Hanalei HI 96714
  • Tunnels Beach

Beautiful. Great snorkeling. Dont miss the Dry Cave! Not easy to find parking. Arrive early.
    State Highway 560 HI 96754
  • Sleeping Giant

Love this trail to the top of the mountain. Beautiful top of the world views. Not recommended if you are afraid of heights.
    Wailua Homesteads HI 96746
  • Cost-U-Less

Before we had Costco here on Kauai, there was Cost U Less. Similar, but smaller scale, and no membership needed. They carry things that Costco does not. Good prices.
    Akia Road Kapaa HI 96746
  • Ke'e Beach

Parking is difficult, but worth it. Arrive early. If you have to, walk the 1/4 mile from the roadside parking lot. Good bathrooms. Lifeguard. Trailhead to the Kalalau Trail is here.

  • Kōloa Rum™ Company Store

Such a fun place. Great gift shop. Gorgeous tasting room. Always take my visitors here. Taste all their rums, the rum cake, the chocolate rum sauce and the Mai Tai mix for free.
    Kaumualii Highway Lihue HI 96766
  • Kilohana Plantation

Beautiful old, historical home, now has shops and restaurants. Worth a browse. The train ride is a little lame, but feeding bread to 100 pigs was fun. Do not miss the free Koloa Rum tasting room!!
    Kaumualii Hwy # E Lihue HI 96766
  • Costco Lihue Kauai

Hit this place when you first land. The best prices on the island, but the packages are large. Dont buy food souvenirs anywhere else until you see what Costco has.
    Nuhou Street Lihue HI 96766
  • The Lodge at Kokee LLC

It takes all day to get to Kokee, but if you have not done it, do it! At the lodge, we love the chili and the lilikoi chiffon pie. Feed the chickens. Drive up to the Kalalau lookout. Awesome view.
    Kokee Road Hanapepe HI 96716
  • Keoki's Paradise

Long drive from Kilauea, but if you are down there, this is a fun restaurant. They know how to do fish right here. Someone said it was like Gilligans Island.

  • Hanapepe

Go on Friday evening, when everything is open for Art Night.

Located in a rustic roadside cottage. Best taro chips in the world. Fresh. Pricey, but worth it.
