About this listing
Four bedrooms (2 kings, 1 queen, 1 double), 2 full bathrooms and a spa in the heart of Kilauea town. Drive to white sand beaches in minutes, or walk to restaurants, bakery, and shopping. Rural beauty on the scenic north shore.
A spacious house in a local neighborhood which sleeps up to 8 people. Well equipped. I outfit this house like my primary home: 300+ thread count 100% cotton sheets, plenty of towels, every small appliance in the kitchen, cooking and baking equipment like I have in my kitchen at home. There is a Weber charcoal kettle BBQ, plus a little Weber Smoky Joe (portable charcoal kettle) to take to the beach. Plenty of coolers, too.
Whether it is one couple or four, you have exclusive access to the entire house and yard. There is parking in the driveway, as well as street parking. At various times of the year, the yard produces mangos, avocados, limes, lemons, lychees and papaya. There is a coconut tree, too, but we have it trimmed before the coconuts mature for safety sake.
Interaction with Guests
I live and work on the Mainland (SF Bay Area) so I will not be interacting with my guests, except by phone, text and email. However, my housekeeper, Debi O'Neil, conveniently lives two blocks away. Debi: (phone number hidden) (email hidden)
I have owned and operated this house as a vacation rental for 26 years. All of my adjacent neighbors have rented the house at some time or other for visiting family members. I am on friendly terms with all my neighbors. :-) Shops in historic stone buildings from sugar plantation days are within walking distance, as are a bakery, two restaurants and a couple mini-markets. Very small town though! You will want to do your major grocery shopping at Costco in Lihue, Safeway or Cost-U-Less in Kapa'a, or Foodland in Princeville.
You will need a rental car. It is a 40 minute drive from the Lihue Airport. However, traffic can be awful going through Kapa'a midday, so if you are catching a plane allow at least 2 hours to drop off your rental car and catch your plane.
Other Things to Note
The maximum occupancy of this house is 8 people. Neither the housecleaner, nor the sewage system (a cesspool) can handle any more than this. There is a CD player with speakers that can also hook up to your ipod. If the sound of the spa coming on bothers your sleep, just shut it off. Shutting it off won't hurt anything. However, if you want to use it, you will have to wait three hours for it to warm up again. The spa has professional maintenance by Noah Carano every Thursday morning. He will come in through the front door (he has a key) unless you are here to open the lanai door for him. The rent quoted INCLUDES the 13.25% excise & transient accommodations taxes. Out clean service is included in the rental price, with a minimum of a three night stay. The house will be clean upon your arrival, and cleaned after you check out, but not during your stay.
Please talk softly on the lanai after 9 pm out of consideration for the neighbors. In spite of mature, tropical foliage surrounding the property, sound travels when everyone has their windows wide open due to the warm climate.
This house features an open living area of 20 feet x 40 feet with a high open beam ceiling for the kitchen, dining area, tiki bar, livingroom, and game table.
The Coconut house was an absolute and utter delight. We had a party of six, which consisted of us, grandparents and younger children. All ages were pleased. Every single last detail was taken care of. Things were labeled. Things were easy. Exactly what you want when you go on vacation and want to just disappear into the vibe. The neighborhood was quiet and very much a local's area. There is no A/C so the windows are always open, so I hope you like peace and quiet, because it's definitely not a party place. But that was great for us. Also, I hope you like chickens because they are everywhere, and just adds to the overall feel of the place. I can't say enough great things. The owners did a spectacular job with this place. Thank you guys so very much.
The house was just as described. It's a great little town nearby, an easy walk. The house was well equipped and very comfortable. A great stay.
This house was beautiful! It was well stocked, even had sushi plates. My family enjoyed the spacious setting and authentic Hawaiian feel. It made me feel like a king. Thanks to Cindy for also making last minute accommodations for us. Mahalo
How do I begin to express how much we loved the Coconut House?! From the stained glass entry to the jacuzzi and reading nook on the lanai, to listening to the rain from the loft bed-the home was the perfect place for the second half of our honeymoon.
The neighborhood is nice (and quiet - so if you're looking to party loud and hard, this is not your spot) and we loved walking to the local food and art spots. Oh and the kitchen! Huge and stocked with any utensil you could dream of wanting to cook with.
Other home amenities that were amazing to have: kauai guidebooks, iPod player, roku, washer/dryer, dishwasher, towels, ice maker, ice packs for coolers, postcards to leave/take... I could go on and on.
Cindy and Randy really have done an amazing job at creating a little Kauai heaven at the Coconut House, and we feel so lucky to have been able to experience it, and will cherish our honeymoon memories there forever!
Good communication- Dani is always responsive for house needs or questions. Great house that is centrally located for exploration of the Northern part of the Island. Would definitely rent again.
Kilauea Coconut House was a charm to stay at with spacious living space, fully stocked kitchen and bathrooms, plenty of beach towels, a nice hottub, and great hosts! Cindy is friendly and quick in her replies which is super helpful. The 4 bedrooms suited our needs (party of 9) and we would stay here again if we return to Kauai!
We liked the house very much as it was comfortable for all 8 adults. And baby Simone had plenty of space to run around.
The kitchen was well stocked, as we cooked most meals, including some amazing dinners. It satisfied the many cooks in our group. Felt right at home with Weber barbecue .Tiki bar became DJ central for my son. The wine rack was put to good use.
We loved the very down to earth neighborhood, walking to stores, the bakery, the fish market, buying cheap avocados from a neighbors fruit stand.
Kilauea was a great find. Great location on the North Shore, minutes to many amazing beaches, which need to be discovered, and the wonderful beach town of Hanalei.
Cindy was very helpful in a couple of e mails answering many questions about the house. We felt right at home.
We'll be back, as soon as possible.
