Description

The space

A spacious house in a local neighborhood which sleeps up to 8 people. Well equipped. I outfit this house like my primary home: 300+ thread count 100% cotton sheets, plenty of towels, every small appliance in the kitchen, cooking and baking equipment like I have in my kitchen at home. There is a Weber charcoal kettle BBQ, plus a little Weber Smoky Joe (portable charcoal kettle) to take to the beach. Plenty of coolers, too.

Guest access

Whether it is one couple or four, you have exclusive access to the entire house and yard. There is parking in the driveway, as well as street parking. At various times of the year, the yard produces mangos, avocados, limes, lemons, lychees and papaya. There is a coconut tree, too, but we have it trimmed before the coconuts mature for safety sake.

Interaction with guests

We live and work on the Mainland (SF Bay Area) so we will not be interacting with our guests, except by phone, text and email. However, our next door neighbor, Lupita Poppler, serves as our on-island contact person. She is available to answer any questions that may arise. Lupita's cell phone: . Lupita's home phone: . Lupita, or her husband, Pete Poppler, make sure our trash can is moved to its special street side position on Sunday evening for the early morning collection on Monday.

The neighborhood

I have owned and operated this house as a vacation rental for 26 years. All of my adjacent neighbors have rented the house at some time or other for visiting family members. I am on friendly terms with all my neighbors. :-) Shops in historic stone buildings from sugar plantation days are within walking distance, as are a bakery, two restaurants and a couple mini-markets. Very small town though! You will want to do your major grocery shopping at Costco in Lihue, Safeway or Cost-U-Less in Kapa'a, or Foodland in Princeville.

Getting around

You will need a rental car. It is a 40 minute drive from the Lihue Airport. However, traffic can be awful going through Kapa'a midday, so if you are catching a plane allow at least 2 hours to drop off your rental car and catch your plane.

Other things to note

The maximum occupancy of this house is 8 people. Neither the housecleaner, nor the sewage system (a cesspool) can handle any more than this. There is a CD player with speakers that can also hook up to your ipod. The rent quoted INCLUDES the 13.25% excise & transient accommodations taxes. Out clean service is included in the rental price, with a minimum of a three night stay. The house will be clean upon your arrival, and cleaned after you check out, but not during your stay. House Rules
No smoking
No parties or events

1. Please talk softly on the lanai after 9 pm out of consideration for the neighbors. In spite of mature, tropical foliage surrounding the property, sound travels when everyone has their windows wide open due to the warm climate. 2. If you move any furniture around, please return it to its original location before leaving. 3. Please do not leave dirty dishes for the housecleaner. 4. If you smoke, please do it outside the house. Either on the front porch or the rear lanai is fine, too, as they are open air. 5. Please bag all trash and place in the large gray trash can at the side of the house. There is no curbside recycling, so everything goes into the trash.

This is the perfect house with everything you want and need for home away from home. This part of the Island is beautiful and we will come back. When we had questions about the house or the location and what fruits might be in season during our visit Cindy was quick with a reply.

This place was perfect for our family get together! I have stayed in so many airbnbs and none have been as well stocked as this one. Super organized and anything you could need. A lovely neighborhood with restaurants and groceries within walking distance. 10 out of 10 - would definitely stay at the coconut house again.

A beautiful house within a nice area. Perfect for accessing all the beaches on the north shore and very spacious and comfortable. We would rent this place again if we spend more time in Hawaii.

The Coconut House, wow! What a great place to enjoy a weekend away. We had two couples from Oahu and three guests from out of town. The house was everything promised and more. Very well appointed and comfortable. There were spices in the kitchen, toilet paper and plenty of towels in the bathrooms, and a charcoal grill, with charcoal provided, in the back. There were more than enough places to sit or take afternoon naps. If it's important to you, there are several world class golf courses nearby that we enjoyed playing. Cindy was in constant communication and very pleasant to to talk to. This was my first Airbnb stay and I was very pleased. Do not hesitate staying at the Coconut House!

Cindy and Randy were excellent. The house was stocked with cooking equipment which came in quite handy. Great location. Easy to find. We had a minor issue with the internet that was quickly resolved. Highly recommend.

The Kilauea Coconut House was the most adorable little beach bungalow. We loved the neighborhood feel and easily walked to the bakery, the wine bar, and the Lighthouse while exploring the Island. We also appreciated the big kitchen, the extra fans and the well-stocked pantry --- this house was the perfect vacation rental and we fell in love with Kauai!
