This is a 2 BEDROOM spacious, modern apartment and personally decorated by me in a quiet street, across street from school in the East Village!
This posting is for use of my private apartment with 2 private bedrooms (sleeps 6 max, ideal for 4), 1 full bathroom with tub, fully stocked kitchen, living room, closets in an elevator building.
This entire apartment can sleep 6 comfortably (based on 2 people per bed). There are 2 bedrooms with queen beds, the couch is a fold-out flat King Size sofa bed (not those horrible and uncomfortable springy-bar-in-the-middle-of-your-back type of sofa beds) and I have a raised air bed (queen) and all the blankets, pillows to go with it for a total of 4 queen beds, but 6 people is the maximum.
Surely, you will experience living in a fantastic apartment in NYC while saving a few bucks from pricey NYC hotels that are located in the heart of the tourist frenzy areas in midtown. It's very clean and has things no hotel can offer.
This is available for rentals of 3 nights or more. However, if you are seeking a stay only 1 or 2 nights, it is possible to do so, if it precedes or adds to an existing reservation, OR, is within 7 days of the reservation and is available.
Again, please send a message to inquire about availability and a little info on your group (age group, singles/couples/kids, etc.) BEFORE making a reservation request.
Full, private 2 bedroom apartment, full kitchen, living room, bathroom and closets.
Please understand this is NOT a hotel! Daily maid services are not included. This is for use of a furnished apartment (bungalow) rental and loud noise will not be tolerated as there are full time tenants/neighbors that work normal business hours and my neighbors peace cannot and will not be disrupted. If you're a group of drinkers/clubbers who will be out late or loud, please do NOT inquire. Thank you very much.
Interaction with Guests
I'll meet you at check in to give you info on the apartment / building / neighborhood and meet you at check out. I live 5 minutes away, so I can be there quickly if an emergency arises.
The highly desired EAST VILLAGE neighborhood is quite lively after the sun goes down. The East Village has been heavily built up over the last 5-10 years and located on the East side of Manhattan from 14th St down to Houston (same as street zero) which borders the LES (Lower East Side). Tompkins Square Park is 2 blocks away.
The East Village offers over 400 restaurants, cafes, bars and shopping along with a beautiful Tompkins Square Park which has a few playgrounds for kids, basketball courts, dog run and plenty of benches and grassy areas to relax and catch some sun. You can walk to Indian, Russian, Italian, Mexican, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Vegetarian and American restaurants within a 5 block radius. If you're too tired and beat up from touring NYC and don't feel like going anywhere, you can simply order in and have anything delivered to the apartment (usually until 11 pm or midnight). Just about all of these privately owned restaurants are MUCH better than midtown/tourist-trap food chain restaurants that over charge for mediocre food and drinks. There are at least three 24/hr places to eat within 2 blocks. About 90% of the buildings in the area are walk-ups and this has an elevator. There are about 50 restaurant/bars/cafe's within a 3 block radius and probably 500 within a 10 block radius, along with shopping and Union Square is only a 10 minute walk.
Times Square (City Center) is about a 30 minute walk or 10-15 mins by subway.
Empire State Building is 20-25 minute walk or quick subway or taxi.
Downtown (Freedom Tower, Statue of Liberty, Wall St., etc.) is a quick 15-20 minute subway ride or 45 minute walk, or 20-30 minute bus ride.
Central Park is about 20 minutes by subway.
There is subway (L train) that is 2 blocks away (2 minute walk) that can bring you to Union Square (2 mins) to catch any other line to get anywhere else in NYC or to Brooklyn (Williamsburg) is a quick 8 minute ride and one stop away.
There is a Bus on the corner, which is less than a minute walk.
And you can get a taxi pretty much any time on my block within a few minutes.
Personally, I recommend walking to your destination, as it takes 20-45 minutes to get anywhere in NYC, FROM anywhere in NYC whether you walk, take a subway, taxi or bus. Plus you get to see cool things along the way by walking. If you're tired, take a taxi back home.
As the Subway is so close, it's really only worth it for long trips (UWS, Brooklyn, Queens or Staten Island) as you could probably walk to your destination in less time if you account for waiting for the train, going under/above ground with the crowds, etc..
Other Things to Note
When inquiring, it would be VERY beneficial if you would include a little about yourselves; age group, reason for visiting NYC and the breakdown (singles/couples/elderly/children) so I can determine if my apartment will suit your group for your needs, primarily the sleeping arrangements!
Just think of what you would like to see from potential house guests coming to stay in your home!
Keep noise down after 11 PM during the week. There are full time resident neighbors who live here permanently and work Monday through Friday.
If you break something, you bought it.
Flexible CHECK IN / OUT. It all depends on whether guests are checking in or out the day you arrive/leave.
Normally, if people are checking in the day you are leaving, you must check out by 12 Noon but you may keep your luggage safely stored until your flight leaves. If guests are checking out the day you check in, the house cleaner comes at 9 am or 12 noon, so depending on when the previous guest is leaving the place will be ready either @ 12 noon or 3 pm at the latest.
If there are no guests checking in the day you are leaving, you may check out whenever you wish, just let me know in advance.
NO SMOKING CIGARETTES inside the apartment! There is an elevator to take down to go to building entrance. Sorry!
What a great host! Felt welcomed and looked after. Definitely recommended by me. Thanks Bruce
Bruce was an excellent host with good communication both before and during the stay. He responded to any queries and requests we had very promptly. The apartment was exactly as described, comfortable and well appointed. The location was brilliant. We enjoyed our stay and would happily come back.
First, I'd like to thank Bruce and Cindy for being gracious hosts. When we entered the apartment, Cindy provided us with a thorough run-down of the facilities. She also offered us what food was in the apartment, which included cereal, fresh milk, beers, and bagels. Cindy also did a great job of explaining the layout of the local area, providing us with helpful tips and recommendations.
Likewise, Bruce was personable and helpful. Later in our trip, we suffered a minor emergency, but, thankfully, Bruce was able to step in to help out. Without his intervention the situation could have been far more difficult, and I am eternally grateful to him. Seriously, I cannot stress how nice these people are, nor can I recommend their services highly enough.
As for the apartment, it's situated in a really convenient spot; the East Village is right on its door-step, and the First-Ave Metro stop, which is only one stop from Branch Ave and all the delights of Williamsburg, is only a five minute walk. The apartment itself is spacious (for that part of the city) and comfortable. When we stayed, the apartment was clean, and there were towels and bedding for everyone. At a stretch, the apartment can accommodate about 8 people - the couch-bed is large enough for two, as is the blow-up bed.
If there are 4 or more in your party this option is excellent value for money. Its convenient transport links make it easier to extensively visit both Brooklyn and Manhattan during a short stay.
Bruce and Cyndi were exceptional hosts! Communication was nearly instant. Due to travel circumstances, I was able to say at 2 of Bruce's apartments. Both Cyndi and Bruce took the time to make sure I was comfortable; he even gave me local restaurant tips and a ride between places. The fridge was stocked and ready for me and my family.
Both apartments were very well maintained and as described. In fact, they took great care to make the apartment homey, but not feel like you were intruding in someone's space. I personally loved the decorations and wall colors. There were 5 of us in the two bedroom apartment. My mom and dad had plenty of room and the elevator made it easy for him to get around with his walker. My friend slept on the sofa which was very comfortable. The bedrooms have air conditioning units. The apartment was a terrific place to visit with other relatives who live in the New York. The living room/kitchen area was large enough for our group.
The neighborhood is fantastic and very safe. My sister lives nearby and it was great to share in her favorite local spots with my family and friends. May I suggest Redhead on 13th and 1st for a late night drink. The L train is only a few short blocks away or lovely Union Square is a beautiful 10 minute walk. Also, it was very easy to get a taxi on 1st Ave at any hour. You could spend an entire week in a 3 block radius and not get bored. The East Village is a quieter neighborhood which was a welcome relief after going to some of the tourist highlights I visited on this trip. It is a short distance from the hustle and bustle of midtown. While I'm writing about things to do-don't miss the Highline Park on the West side. It's always on my must do list in the city and never disappoints.
This was an exceptional experience and I anticipate I will be booking with Bruce again when I go to visit NYC. Highly recommended.
Bruce was literally the best host I've ever had after staying at lots of places in NYC over the years! He was very welcoming, quick to respond with communication, and very accommodating. The listing description was spot-on-accurate and the apartment was actually even cleaner and more spacious than in the pictures! And the bathroom was hands-down the biggest and nicest bathroom I've seen in NYC. After securing the reservation, Bruce asked for some of our preferred refrigerator items and he stocked it nicely for us. He was very flexible with our check-in time, and was waiting for us at the apartment upon our arrival. He then gave us all the info we needed to know about the space, and the neighborhood as well. Awesome location in the East Village. We really had a fantastic trip and would definitely love to stay there again!
Last minute work trip to NYC. Found/emailed a few possible airbnb options and Bruce was first and fast to reply. Great communication, even loaded the fridge with some juice and breakfast items. Great and safe location. Lots of food and drink nearby. I worked most days but managed to roam around evening time and there's a nice nightlife in the east village but when it came to my lodging there was zero noise. I was expecting something and coming from LA I was fine with some ambient noise, but I heard nothing other than my own TV and then wound up sleeping like a baby. Also the AC unit which is always hit and miss at these places was a total hit. Quick to cool on low settings.
Bruce was a really great host and next time I come to the city with the wife, I'll be sure to keep him in mind.

About the Host, Bruce
Update February 2014 - After 3 great years of success renting out rooms in my apartment, I now have another apartment for my painting studio / office to rent when I'm not working on a project, and I also take care of renting out my friend's apartment here in the East Village. Rather than looking through all my listings and confusing yourself, I suggest just shooting me a message and let me know your dates, the make up of your party (singles/couples/kids/grand peeps, sorry no pets) and any special needs you may desire. Take a look at my reviews and well, you'll get the picture!! I'll be delighted to add you to my wonderful guest list now topping 39 different countries!
As you'll see my original profile info below, I'm quite happy to say the last 3 years have been wonderful. I've met so many great people, both here and on my travels. Having me as your host, will certainly make your life easier here in the Big Apple. Pleasure, business or both I'm happy to share my vast NYC knowledge with you.
June 1, 2010: As a long time resident of NY, I've been living in NYC for the past 5 years, but grew up in the suburbs about 30 miles east on Long Island. Currently, I'm working as an Interior designer / General Contractor with an emphasis on performing the finish work myself and crew(s).
After traveling all around the U.S.A. for a Sales job for a few years after graduating college, I've learned a ton about the hospitality business, traveling in general and have how to treat people by doing my very best to surpass expectations. I provide excellent customer service, clean rooms in a great neighborhood, all in a beautiful apartment in the best city in the world, New York City!
