Description

The space

Located in downtown Winter Park, the Viking Lodge and Ski Shop is an icon in Winter Park. Since 1953 we have been providing affordable lodging to guests who just want to ski and have a great time.
At The Viking Lodge you get what you pay for. The carpets are old, the walls are thin, and the TV’s are not flat screen. But we won’t break your budget; we offer cheap accommodations in an old ski lodge at a great location in downtown Winter Park.
We have 21 rooms; from VERY small to apartments. All rooms have private baths and color televisions; box style televisions, yes they are old TV’s, but you should be outside not sitting in your room watching TV.
Pool, gym, ice sculptures, room service, robes, bell boys, 24 hour front desk, spa – this is a list of stuff we don’t have. We do have clean rooms, a great downtown location, game room, friendly staff and the best dirt parking lot in Winter Park.
We don’t do daily maid service or mints on pillows, but if you ask we will clean your room and find a mint somewhere.
If you’d rather be surfing the web than skiing, riding, biking, hiking, reading, chatting with friends or meeting new ones, you’ll be pleased to know that we have Wi-Fi in the lobby. I suppose some have to work anyway.
You can make use of our luggage room before check-in and after check-out.
Our reception is not open all day (heck we would rather be outside skiing, riding, biking or hiking too) but no fear, we will leave directions for check-inIf you will be arriving after hours (like 6PM) please call.

Guest access

We have great access to downtown Winter Park and the Winter Park Resort is a quick 10 minute ride on the FREE resort shuttle.

Interaction with guests

As much or as little as you like. After check in you will be given directions (see comments under "The Space") to your room. If you need any help with directions we are generally here from 8AM to 5PM. If you will be arriving after 5PM please call for additional assistance.

Getting around

There is free public transportation within the town of Winter Park and to Winter Park Resort. However you will need to rent a car of buy transfers from the Denver Airport.

Other things to note

Our rooms are SMALL. There is not A/C, phones or Elevators. The small double rooms have small windows with little or no view.

This was a great place to stay for skiing or snowboarding at Winter Park! Located next to shops, restaurants, and public transportation. Great value!

This room was exactly as stated, small. Perfect for if you're just planning on just sleeping when you're hitting the slopes all day. The lodge itself is very old and the floors creak and you can hear the water dripping (comes with the territory of the building being old). Close to restaurants, public transportation, and the resort. Super easy to get to.

Great place to stay! Very close to the resort and centrally located in town. The room itself was very small, but that was advertised, and was not a problem at all. Very warm and cozy, and just what we need. Would definitely recommend

Cozy place. Especially love the comfy lounge. We enjoyed playing. Board game while other folks socialized nearby.

Late check in was easy: the hosts left an envelope with my key and instructions to the room (which was good since it wasn't easy to find!) on the office counter. From there the experience went downhill: Pros: - good price ($100/night including taxes for the small room) - great location, at Vasquez and US-40 in downtown Winter Park, with multiple nearby restaurants Cons: - second floor room + squeaky old structure + thin walls == very restless nights of sleep - bathroom appeared to only have hot and super hot water, which may be related to why the room got extremely hot when the bathroom door wasn't shut completely - having owners live and operate the place while on site is great except that they don't keep regular office hours, which makes them effectively inaccessible - WiFi didn't work for me or anyone else that asked about it - room was spartan to the extreme: I expected small but got small and with no hangers or hooks or anything really

Here at The Viking, we love skiing! That is pretty much what my family and I do from November to April. Both my daughters are active in different programs at Winter Park Ski area, and I coach for both the ski are and the local high school race team. In the other months of the year, we generally like to be outside. We love to travel and have been all over the world from Munich to Bangkok. Mostly, our trips are a bit last minute, we are never quite sure where we will end up. As hosts, we are big on helping you out. If there is anything that you need to make your stay more comfortable, and we will to what we can to get that done for you. Around here, we all can chat about pretty much anything.
