Casa California is a guesthouse in the absolute heart of the UNESCO world heritage touristic district of Valparaiso. The interior of the 120-year-old building was fully renovated to provide comfortable lodging at an affordable price for the modern traveller / adventurer. Here you can count on fast wifi, friendly attention, and all the amenities of a boutique hotel in a relaxed, friendly, social setting.

Upon arrival you will be received in our Victorian-inspired lobby, where we will provide you with all the tips and tricks to get the absolute most out of your visit to this magical port city. You will love this charming common-space where you can enjoy a cup of tea, coffee or evening drinks.

Your private bed+bath ensuite is designed for complete comfort and privacy. It is squeaky-clean and nicely decorated. You will feel right at home. We provide fresh towels and sheets, as well as shampoo, conditioner, soap, and hairdryer.

Cerro Concepción and Cerro Alegre are the heart of the touristic area of Valparaiso, both UNESCO designated world heritage sites. Our home is right between them, a short walk from the old town area. The neighborhood includes the famous funiculares / ascensores of Valparaíso (one of them directly behind our house, visible from the mirador / balcony), the paseos - Dimalow, Atkinson, Gervasoni, Yugoslavo, awesome rooftop bars, delicious restaurants, amazing street art, great music in the streets, and fascinating architecture unique in the world. We're at the center of it all!

Hello! We're an American-Chilean couple that decided to change our life in San Francisco, California to chase our dreams in Valparaíso, Chile. We met in Santiago, in 2003 and always talked about starting a guesthouse/bar somewhere. With a lot of hard work and a bit of luck we were able to make the jump and bought a century-old house in magical Valpo in 2016. After years of renovation, restoration, and remodelling, little by little our dreams are taking shape. Before Valpo, we had the good fortune of traveling and living in Southeast Asia, after which we settled in SF (Johnny's hometown). Cata worked as a social justice educator at a public high school and Johnny worked in the tech industry. After nine years, we were ready to move on. We love meeting people from all over the world and learning from their life experiences. Johnny makes music, cooks, and is into Zen Buddhism, Cata works with textiles, likes to read and loves the shared history between Valpo and SF. We enjoy places with amazing views, good movies, food, and drinks. We are both passionate about Valpo and want to make sure you enjoy all of its hidden gems. It is a very special place, unique in the world, and a must-see for everyone travelling to Chile and Latin America. We look forward to meeting you!
