Historic Arts & Crafts: Rose Room

House - Private room · Oxford Ave, Buffalo, NY 14209, United States

The Space

We're in a diverse neighborhood within an easy walk of Buffalo's best and most historic neighborhoods including Millionaire's Row, Olmsted Parks, Forest Lawn Cemetery, museums, chic shopping district, great restaurants, w easy access to public transportation, 5-10 minutes from downtown by car. There is free, easy parking available on the street for guests.

This 100 year old arts and crafts house was designed by one of Buffalo's leading architects at the time. Personal tours of the area are available as well as transportation to/from downtown, airport, bus or train station.

We have two rooms. The Rose Room is not air conditioned. The Paris Room is air conditioned. In Buffalo, typically, air conditioning is only needed on the hottest days of the year, although this has been a warmer than normal summer thus far.

The BnB is 16 year-old Marivi's business. John, her Dad, helps with booking and communication but she does the work. The income goes to support her many artistic and academic activities that Mom and Dad can't afford on top of her private school tuition. She takes her role as the business owner and innkeeper very seriously and is committed to making your experience in Buffalo the best it can possibly be.

  • Marivi and her dad are nice. But some guests before us complained about the missing door locks. They are still missing. The trash can from the guests before us was still full. Also the prices they charge for driving guests around are too high in my opinion.

    Response from Marivi And John:

We put a lock on the Paris Room. The bathroom door latches and everyone knows if the door is latched the room is in use. The fees we charge for transportation, which is a completely optional service, are set at about 2/3 the rates charged by local taxi cabs. When you consider the value of the driver's time, plus the cost of operating the vehicle, it would not be worthwhile to charge any less. Guests are free to take any form of transportation they like. Our service is offered to those who wish for transportation that is more convenient than public transit but less expensive than a taxi.

  • Charming house and good hosts. A positive first experience with Airbnb for us.

  • Clean, comfortable, and very welcoming. John and Marivi were excellent hosts. I would definitely recommend staying here to anyone traveling to the buffalo area.

  • The home was good, it's a nice place if you don't need to share with you're host. Unfortunately we had not such a warm welcome, not cold neither, but it was more like an hotel for us. Didn't have the chance to meet john who seems really nice in the comments. You can go out for eating or drink close from the house, and it's near from the rail station which goes to the Buffalo center if you don't have car.

    Response from Marivi And John:

We try to determine whether our guests prefer privacy or interaction. We are open to either. John's work schedule did not allow him to be available very much when Marion was with us.

  • I had a wonderful stay at Marivis and John's. They were very understanding of the fact that I forgot to book two guests and let my friend and I stay the night even though it was very short notice. If I'm in Buffalo again, I will definitely stay with them.

  • Awesome place. Not hard to get to at all. Don't hesitate to stay with them.

  • Marivi and John were great hosts. My husband and I are expecting our first child. We came down to Buffalo to do some shopping for the nursery. John made a nice dinner recommendation in the neighbourhood which had a nice little strip of restaurants and cafés. The room was basic and clean which was all we were looking for. We also ordered a number of items online which they collected for until our arrival. We really appreciated this. Thank you for having us and accommodating our shopping!

About
I am 16 years old. I was Miss New York Junior Teen in 2012. My parents allow me to use our family home for my AirBnB business. I use the proceeds of the business to pay my tuition at a private girls' prep school, where I am an honor student and to fund my pageant activities as well as modeling and acting endeavors, an exchange trip to Spain, and more. I've been told I'm AirBnB's youngest host. There will soon be a large portrait of me and a few other interesting hosts hanging in the new AirBnB headquarters in San Francisco. My profile photo is one of the pictures that was taken during the photoshoot for this portrait. My father, John Howell, has a little business on the side giving private tours of the area to our guests, and transportation, when needed. He charges a cash fee for these services. His fees for transportation are a little less than taxi cab fare, and you don't have to tip him. Many of our guests traveling by air, train, or bus, have appreciated the convenience of his help with rides to and from the airport, train stations or bus terminal. He is also often asked to take guests to Niagara Falls, or to provide a personal insider tour of Buffalo. His fees for all of this are reasonable and he knows a lot about Buffalo's history and factoids you'd like to know. My father is also a novelist, and you can get an autographed copy of one of his books if you want one.
