About this listing
Cozy room with double bed, dresser, closet, a/c, decorated in an artistic and travel theme. It was named the "Rose Room" after a rose pillow that we used to have on the bed. The pillow fell apart, so the name's a little irrelevant at this point.
We're in a diverse neighborhood within an easy walk of Buffalo's best and most historic neighborhoods including Millionaire's Row, Olmsted Parks, Forest Lawn Cemetery, museums, chic shopping district, great restaurants, w easy access to public transportation, 5-10 minutes from downtown by car. There is free, easy parking available on the street for guests.
This 100 year old arts and crafts house was designed by one of Buffalo's leading architects at the time. Personal tours of the area are available as well as transportation to/from downtown, airport, bus or train station.
We have two rooms. The Rose Room is not air conditioned. The Paris Room is air conditioned. In Buffalo, typically, air conditioning is only needed on the hottest days of the year, although this has been a warmer than normal summer thus far.
The BnB is 16 year-old Marivi's business. John, her Dad, helps with booking and communication but she does the work. The income goes to support her many artistic and academic activities that Mom and Dad can't afford on top of her private school tuition. She takes her role as the business owner and innkeeper very seriously and is committed to making your experience in Buffalo the best it can possibly be.
Guests are free to share the house with the family, but be aware that the common room on the second floor outside the guest rooms is also the family TV room. The living room is usually a good place for guests to sit quietly without many interruptions.
Interaction with Guests
The family is busy and may or may not be around very much during your stay. We love to interact with guests who are looking for conversation, but we also respect the privacy of our guests who wish to be left alone.
We live in a very diverse, friendly neighborhood centrally located near many different city attractions including Elmwood Village, Delaware Park, Delaware Avenue, and ten minutes via car from Downtown.
Please note: always include the ZIP CODE (14209) when entering the address into a GPS to take you to our home. Without the zip code, you will end up at the wrong address in a neighborhood not as nice as ours!
Public transportation is a short walk away to the Metro Rail (Utica Street or Canisius College stations). Bus stops are also nearby. It is a bike friendly, walkable area, and for those who come by car, traffic is usually light.
Other Things to Note
We do not offer breakfast; however, we are very good at offering suggestions of good places to find some!
The bathroom is shared so common courtesy rules include no personal items left in the bathroom and please leave it as you found it, clean.
Checkout time during the week is 9am, unless prearranged with host.
Checkout time on weekends is 10am, unless prearranged with host..
John was great! Didn't meet Marivo, but John have me a tour and was super helpful with driving me where I needed to be. Great 1st airbnb experience!
Good price/service for Buffalo & Niagara area. The room is very clean. Thanks a lot to John for the kindness and information.
John welcomed me very well. The property was as described. I was very happy to stay here ..........
This place was great! Super friendly and accommodating hosts. I was passing thru Buffalo and needed a place for the night and this worked perfectly. Room was nice and a comfy bed!
La Situation de la maison est pratique, proche d'un grand parc, des musées, de elmwood street. La chambre et la salle de bain sont propres. Nous n'avons jamais rencontrée l'hôte, seulement ses parents.
We arrived at 9pm and left at 8am so it was nice to have a quiet sleep. Mariva was nice to us since we arrived late. She explained everything to us.
I basically arrived at midnight and had to leave pretty early. So, as far as I needed a hot shower and a clean bed, all was good. No complaints. They were supportive of me arriving late which was nice.

About the Host, Marivi And John
I've been told I'm AirBnB's youngest host. There is a large portrait of me and a few other interesting hosts hanging in the new AirBnB headquarters in San Francisco. My profile photo is one of the pictures that was taken during the photoshoot for this portrait.
I've been doing this since I was 14. My parents have allowed me to use our family home for my AirBnB business. I use the proceeds of the business to help pay my educational expenses, to fund my modeling and acting endeavors, and pageant activities.
I was Miss New York Junior Teen in 2012, USA National Miss New York Teen and Miss New York High School in 2014 . I was the youngest contestant in the Miss New York (Miss America) 2015 pageant, and was the youngest contestant in memory to finish in the Top Ten.
I graduated with high honors at a private girls prep school, and as of August 18, 2015 I am a student at Duke University. I continue to be your host when I'm home on breaks but when I'm at school, my Dad, John Howell, runs the business for me.
Dad has a little business on the side giving private insider tours of Buffalo. His fees for all of this are reasonable and he knows a lot about Buffalo's history and factoids you'd like to know. He charges a cash fee for these services.
We also offer transportation to guests when our schedules allow. Our fees for transportation are a little less than taxi cab fare, and you don't have to tip us. Many of our guests traveling by air, train, or bus, have appreciated the convenience of our help with rides to and from the airport, train stations or bus terminal. We are also often asked to take guests to Niagara Falls.
My father is also a novelist, and you can get an autographed copy of one of his books if you want one.
