Roy was extremely helpful and he went out of his way several times to make our stay pleasant. Additionally his place is well kept, clean and have many of the basic necessities. It is an easy 5 minute ride to downtown. I highly recommend him if you ever need a place to stay in Cuzco.
Roy, Marlena and their family were the perfect hosts. They were generous and extremely helpful. They collected us from the airport - which took two trips as we were seven. They called us cabs and made sure we were safe at every turn. They put up with all our laundry needs and went above and beyond in every way
Roy and his family were lovely, gracious people. They went above and beyond to try to help us have a nice stay, starting with picking us up from the airport. If the apartment lacked something, they were quick to supply what we needed. They helped us plan daytrips from Cusco and with our trip to Machu Picchu.
The apartment itself was just the right size for two or three people, but the kitchen and eating areas were combined and rather small. There was no oven, just a stove top and microwave for cooking. The apartment is not heated and did get cold during the evenings and nights. There was plenty of bedding to keep us warm while we were sleeping but otherwise we walked around in layers. Also, the only hot water in the apartment is in the shower, but it worked just fine. There was quite a bit of noise from both the street and the other people in the apartment, but we were not overly bothered by it. It took us about 25 minutes to walk to the Plaza de Armas, but there were always taxis around to drive us. Our only real complaint was that for security reasons, we were not given a key to the apartment complex main door which meant we had to rely on Roy or his wife to be available to open the door. Someone was almost always there, but this made us feel a little more hesitant to come and go as we wanted.
Roy and his wife were lovely, very helpful and hospitable. They told us to treat the flat as our home, and not to hesitate to ask if we needed something. Roy was always on hand to help us get a taxi into town, and on the first evening walked me to the local pizza restaurant. The flat is on a residential street; there is a little noise - from the street and inside the building - but this didn't disturb us unduly. There are a couple of small shops very close which are suitable for basic things, and the pizza restaurant, but it's probably best to eat in town - the flat is close to the centre, only a 4 or 5 PEN taxi ride. It was never a problem getting a taxi back from the plaza at night.
But there were a couple of things which disappointed us about the flat. We felt it was a little cramped for three people. We'd asked for a flat with a kitchen, and I understood from the description that there would be a small living room in addition to that - but there wasn't - only a small table and chairs in the kitchen area. This meant that there was nowhere we could relax together. There was a TV in each bedroom, but due to the layout of the rooms it was impossible for all 3 of us to watch together. The kitchen sadly, was also really only suitable for preparing breakfast. There were inadequate facilities for cooking an evening meal. There was also no heating in the flat.
The Yupanqui apartment we stayed in was very nice, clean and quiet, with comfortable beds and modern very clean rooms. Set in a quiet safe neighbourhood, it was a short taxi ride into town. Roy and his wife were very friendly, always there to help with travel arrangements and I would recommend a stay at their apartments to anybody seeking a quiet base from which to explore the beautiful surroundings
The place was super clean!! I mean almost brand new! Roy was there at every second to help in any way he could, call taxis on the street, get us more towels, he even set us up with a great travel agent who helped us plan our trip to Machu Picchu! His place is quite which you may not get on the town square but it is a 3 sole ($1) 5-10 minute taxi ride into town... Not a big deal, just be aware that you cant really comfortably walk home.
The beds were comfy and the showers were clean, again it was quiet unlike lima so that was nice!
We had a fantastic stay! Cannot speak highly enough of Roy and his family. They were incredibly attentive and helped us organize the obligatory trip to Machu Picchu. The apartment itself is somewhat small, but we found it perfect for two. The beds were incredibly comfortable and warm (it got rather cold at night), and the kitchen worked great. It's about a 20-25 minute walk to the Plaza de Armas, or short (and cheap, only U$S 1) cab ride. Actually quite nice to be out of the way of all the touristy stuff that goes on near the Plaza.
