About This Listing
My sunny '70s 2 bedroom cabin with exposed redwood cathedral beam ceilings has amazing canyon views. There's a hot tub and a small one bedroom outbuilding that's its own little getaway. It's in a very special neighborhood with really nice people.
My house was part of a special group of homes designed and built by a couple in the late '70s. Their thought and detail is seen everywhere in the house. It's not a big home, but it's designed to maximize space. Exposed redwood cathedral ceilings are in the living room and there are 2 bedrooms. A very large lower deck contains a hot tub, outdoor shower and a small cabin that has a bed. Truly a special getaway the owner has decided to let others enjoy. House truly is most comfortable with 4 adults max.
Guests will have access to hot tub and outdoor shower. Outdoor shower and running outside water may be off in the winter due to freezing pipes.
Interaction with Guests
I won't be around during the stay, but am available at all times. I can have as much interaction as necessary including the actual stay. I prefer to answer questions and help as much as I can.
The neighborhood is along a ridge top. The neighbors are quite close and look after each other. There's a yearly gathering of the neighbors for a covered dish event. Everyone is very respectful of noise and space.
There is parking for one car in the driveway- possibly 2 small cars. There's also street parking in front of the wine barrel planters.
Other Things to Note
It's a one mile walk to the river- head out on the 116 for a short walk to Odd Fellows Road and hang a right. There's a cool bridge and beach area. Continue across the bridge in the summer and you'll get to Korbel.
Pets are negotiable, no cats though. No smoking in the house. I'd prefer to not have smoking on the decks due to possible burns. I expect guests to not be loud at night outside past 9pm.
I had a wonderful weekend stay at Bob's modern mountain getaway. The house is conveniently located in the RRV, not too far from hiking, coast, spas and vineyards - we managed to do all four in 2.5 days.
I was part of a party of 4 friends, and we fit comfortably in the stylish, quiet home. There are 2 queen beds in the actual home (one of lofted, but that was fine for us). There is an additional room in a separate, detached bungalow on the lower deck - I slept there with a friend and it was awesome!
Bob does his best to make you feel welcome - he sent us a really informative house book that explained EVERYTHING we needed to know about the house and area. Thanks, bob! I would definitely stay here again.
The house is beautifully decorated in mid-century modern furniture and great art. The views out the windows of the redwood trees are gorgeous. The location is good for easily visiting Guerneville and the surrounding wine regions. While the house can definitely comfortably sleep four it is a small house. The second bedroom is outside and down a long flight of stairs. There is one bathroom so whoever is in the detached room they'll need to deal with the stairs to the main house. The lower bedroom is also very small not a lot of room for luggage or personal belongings. The House Book is well put together with great pictures and clear directions. Made figuring out the house very easy.
Thanks for all the compliments on everything Ken! If you return in the future I'd recommend using the other bedroom in the main house during your next stay. In total there are actually 3 bedrooms. Another sleeping option would be the sofa in the living room of the main house as it pulls out into a bed. Thanks again!
The house was tastefully decorated, and the beds comfortable. The deck is huge and features a large, clean hot tub. The deck faces a dense forest, which provides excellent privacy, though some noise can be heard from the surrounding neighbors. We had everything we needed for our girls' getaway weekend.
Hey Nicole, I'm glad y'all had a great getaway weekend! Sorry to hear that some of the neighbors were noisy. The only noise complaints I've received in the past have actually been from my neighbors about airbnb guests being loud at my house! The house is in a small rural neighborhood and not isolated in the wilderness so you may hear others from time to time. Thanks again!
Perfect choice. Beautiful surroundings. Loved it and hope to return. Thanks Bob!

About the Host, Bob
I'm a creative director and appreciate all of what Northern California has to offer. I've looked to find special architecturally interesting and significant homes as I love the period of architecture in the area from the mid to late '60s, as well as 1970s. My properties are thoughtfully decorated to the period they were designed, yet updated appropriately.
I've been collecting special mid-century furniture, objects and artwork. I'm also into vintage muscle cars. I'm on the board of an organization to document and help preserve buildings of the modern movement. I'm not a big TV watcher, but never tire of the classic TV sitcoms of the past. I don't do reality TV as I'd rather use the time reading about architecture or design! Or going outside.
I love traveling to Europe occasionally, as well as I'll always love Hawaii. I've been to all the islands but Kauai.
My place in Guerneville affords access to great local food, as well as some awesome wineries. I feel fortunate to be so close to such amazing places!
In my job and in my life, I'm very detail and goal-oriented. I hope you see that detail and care in both of my homes and enjoy your stay!
